Rabbit Must Die
Chapter 74 The Emperor’s Magnanimity_1

Chapter 74: Chapter 74 The Emperor’s Magnanimity_1

"Alright, you wild little rabbit, you don’t understand the rules. From now on, let’s keep it simple." At this moment, the Jade Emperor spoke, his voice calm and even, revealing neither pleasure nor displeasure. But everyone understood the implication; the Jade Emperor was not angry with the rabbit.

On the contrary, there was a hint of reward in his words. Keep it simple from now on? Does this not mean that from now on, this damn rabbit doesn’t need to be so formal when coming to Heavenly Court?

Suddenly, everyone’s eyes were red with envy as they looked at Qin Shou. They had been coming to Heavenly Court for many years and had never received such treatment!

Even the Taibai Star Monarch didn’t have this privilege!

The only one who might, presumably, was Yang Jian, whom the Jade Emperor felt he owed.

With this thought, the immortals shuddered, realizing that this rabbit must have caught the Jade Emperor’s eye and might well become another Taibai Star Monarch in the future!

Thinking this, everyone silently took note to not provoke this rabbit too much in the future, to avoid unnecessary trouble.

Upon hearing this, Qin Shou was overjoyed, knowing this was a favor. He thought to himself that he must flatter vigorously, and call out the full name! So Qin Shou opened his mouth wide and exclaimed, "Thank you, Haotian Jinque...jin...that thing...coming...uhm...err...the true Jade Emperor!"

When the immortals heard this, they covered their faces in embarrassment. This damn rabbit couldn’t even remember the Jade Emperor’s full name and still called it out... if you don’t remember, you could have asked! But what’s with all that thing...coming...uhm...err, who are you trying to fool?

Hearing this shout, even the golden light in front of the Jade Emperor trembled, though it was unclear if it was from laughing or from shivering in anger.

Queen Mother of the West, however, did smile: "This little rabbit is quite interesting. Wenqu, do teach him properly, and don’t let him miss out on his future prospects."

Wenqu Star looked at the rabbit before him, his previous composure when accepting disciples nowhere to be found. He now had the feeling of a rat dropping poised to fall into a pot of porridge—and the key point was, he was the one who brought that rat dropping back...

But since the Queen Mother had spoken, what could he say? He stood up and bowed, responding, "Your decree will be diligently followed."

The Queen Mother then addressed Qin Shou, "Little rabbit, study well, and if you achieve something in the future, your prospects will still be considerable."

Upon hearing this, Qin Shou understood that the Sect Master herself had spoken in such terms, and it seemed that the Sect Master had no intention of refusing. Who then could block his path to promotion and wealth? With that, Qin Shou bowed deeply and said, "Thank you, Queen..."

"Don’t use the full title; it’s embarrassing..." Dog Xiaotian hastily reminded him from the side.

Qin Shou shot him a look and muttered, "You speak as though I know the Queen Mother’s full title..."

With his thoughts racing, but without hesitation, the rabbit said, "Thank Queen Mother of the West for the reward!"

At this point, the immortals had a moment of realization: not only might this rabbit become a great favorite in the eyes of the Jade Emperor... but he might also become a favorite of the Queen Mother of the West. This was no small matter; this rabbit was about to skyrocket in popularity!

The bald disciple of the Wuliang Patriarch, Wuliang Second Patriarch, rubbing his head, exclaimed, "Oh, my... Brother, even if my dad falls down I wouldn’t pick him up, but I’d always support you! You’ve made a genius move. If it were up to me, by now I’d probably have thoroughly offended this rabbit. When this rabbit becomes popular, I bet our little sect won’t even measure up to a flick from Heavenly Court... But you, you’ve formed a good karma. Brother, tell me honestly, did you know something?"

The Wuliang Patriarch chuckled and replied, "I’ve told you before, ask what you should ask, and don’t ask what you shouldn’t. When the time comes that I no longer wish to lead, and you become the Sect Master, go check what the old patriarch left behind and you’ll naturally understand what I’ve been doing."

Upon hearing this, the Wuliang Second Patriarch immediately asked in a daze, "Then when will you stop? I think today is a good auspicious day to do so..."

The Wuliang Patriarch: "..."

After a while, the Wuliang Patriarch said indifferently, "Disciple, go tend to our ancestral grave when you return, and come out after one hundred thousand years."

"Senior Brother, is it too late to admit I was wrong?" asked Wuliang Second Patriarch.

Wuliang Patriarch: "What do you think?"

Wuliang Second Patriarch: "Can I bring a flask of wine?"

Wuliang Patriarch: "Hmm..."

Regardless of those two guys from Wuliang Sect bickering, Qin Shou on this side had scored a great fortune, gratefully thanked the Jade Emperor and the Queen Mother of the West, and then eagerly awaited the return of Fairy Chang’e, howling with excitement.

The Flower Fairy, leading Fairy Chang’e, flew up to the mountain peak. Seeing them approach closer and closer, Qin Shou’s little heart pounded wildly, as if it were about to leap out of his throat... Clenching his tiny claws, his eyes turned even redder with excitement. Even though they had only been apart for a short while, Qin Shou felt as if it had been an eternity, and he contemplated yearningly.

However, before Qin Shou could step forward, Han Xiangzi suddenly dashed up, saying, "Fairy Chang’e, I’ve long admired your renown. I am one of the Eight Immortals of the Upper Cavern, Han..."

"Show-off!" Qin Shou, seeing this, immediately panicked. Their little sister couldn’t just be snatched away by someone else, so he bellowed, drowning out the rest of Han Xiangzi’s words.

Han Xiangzi’s face darkened, just as he was about to say something...

From a slant, Lv Dongbin came forward and said, "Fairy, I am Lv..."

"Still a show-off!" Qin Shou let out another shout, rushing forward and leaping into the air, aiming straight for Chang’e’s embrace.

Chang’e pursed her lips and smiled, caught Qin Shou in her arms, placing him in front of her, and rubbed his head.

Qin Shou took the opportunity to rub his head...

In that instant, Han Xiangzi and Lv Dongbin, who had wanted to say something or show off something, stood frozen in place as if struck by lightning. After a while, they looked at each other and, along with that shameless Black Dog, exclaimed in unison, "Brute!"

Then the damn rabbit raised its head and asked, "Why are you calling me? Can’t you see what’s happening? Being around you fills the air with smog. I finally get to breathe some fresh air in the depths of the mountains, and you call me... compensate me!"

"Damn it!" This time it wasn’t just them being dismissed, all the Eight Immortals had had it and flipped a collective middle finger their way.

The Flower Fairy tried to suppress a smile at the bunch of clowns... then Lv Dongbin immediately approached with a flower, followed closely by Han Xiangzi, and then both began a cockeyed stare-off...

After a commotion, everyone, who had been somewhat strangers to each other, suddenly became familiar.

Of course, mainly with Chang’e... The Flower Fairy and the Eight Immortals were already well-acquainted.

Everyone took their seats; some were chatting here, while others had already started dancing and singing onstage there... However, with the Flower Fairy’s opening act and Chang’e’s dance performance, the subsequent dances indeed lacked a bit of luster.

But the immortals didn’t seem to mind at all; it appeared that all they wanted was an excuse to cheer and drink, so the cheers continued unabated, the toasts flew thick and fast, and the scene was anything but dull.

Qin Shou, drinking away, began to feel dizzy, shook his head, and out of the corner of his eye, he was jolted by a startling realization!

Someone was watching him!
