Chapter 492: Chapter 105 Drink Up_1
Qin Shou looked up and saw an old woman handing him a large bowl with one hand. He went closer and stood on tiptoes to look inside, only to find the soup was brown and thick, seemingly with countless spices added to it, and it smelled pretty good.
In that moment, Qin Shou suddenly remembered a bowl of soup he had once passed by in Huaxia and tasted—hot and spicy soup!
In that moment, Qin Shou’s face was covered with tears. This was the taste of home...
Seeing Qin Shou’s reaction, the old woman shook her head slightly and said, "Stop crying. I see tens of thousands like you every day, crying is useless. Once you drink this, all worries and sorrows will be gone."
Qin Shou subconsciously took the bowl and remarked, "The taste seems quite good, how much for a bowl?"
The old woman seemed to be asked such a question for the first time and chuckled, "It’s free."
Upon hearing this, Qin Shou’s eyes lit up and he immediately asked, "Does it fill you up?"
The old woman, as if hearing a huge joke, burst into loud laughter and said, "Filled up, of course, it’ll fill you up, haha... Drink, once you drink this bowl, you won’t even know what hunger is anymore."
After hearing that, Qin Shou lifted the large bowl and declared boldly, "Cheers!"
Then, Qin Shou tilted his head back and gulped down the entire bowl of soup! The soup did have a hint of the taste of hot and spicy soup, but compared to the watery one he had by the train station entrance back in the day, this soup’s flavor was much more rich and intense, making Qin Shou’s eyebrows dance with joy.
But what really excited Qin Shou was that the soup contained a large amount of Pure Yin Energy, and as it entered his body, he felt every cell howling in comfort and a euphoric relaxation spread all over...
Seeing Qin Shou standing on the spot, making faces after drinking a bowl of soup...
Cui Jue couldn’t hold back any longer and sent a distant message to the old woman, "Mengpo, how is it going?"
Mengpo didn’t send back a message but responded openly, "Judge, what else could it be after drinking my Mengpo’s Soup? By now he probably doesn’t even remember who he is, let alone remember your mess of things."
On hearing this, Cui Jue immediately relaxed and said, "That’s good..."
Mengpo was about to say something when suddenly she saw an extra bowl appeared before her. Mengpo was taken aback and followed the bowl’s direction, only to see a rabbit holding the bowl high, looking as if it hadn’t had its fill, saying to her, "Another bowl, please!"
Mengpo was stunned. Another one? Again? Did this guy know he already had one bowl? Wasn’t his memory erased?
Mengpo asked on reflex, "You, want another one?"
Qin Shou said as a matter of course, "Of course, it tastes good, but it could use a bit more salt. Add some salt this time, will you..."
Upon hearing this, Mengpo felt a burning embarrassment on her face, as though someone had slapped her. Then, driven by angered embarrassment, she let out a cold chuckle and said, "Fine, you want to drink it, right? This soup, I’ll give you enough of it!"
With that, Mengpo served another bowl for Qin Shou and handed it over.
Qin Shou took it, tilted his head back, and gulped it down! Then he closed his eyes, his face expressing deep appreciation.
Mengpo’s eyes bulged, staring intently at Qin Shou as if trying to read a familiar expression on the Rabbit’s face, like those of the disoriented ghosts that hadn’t wandered far behind him.
However, after staring for a minute, the Rabbit suddenly opened his eyes wide, and excitedly exclaimed, "Holy shit! I’ve fallen in love with this stuff! Come on, give me another bowl!"
Mengpo was dumbfounded standing there, pointing at Qin Shou, shaking as she said, "You’re still okay?"
Qin Shou retorted, "Should something be wrong with me? Could it be that there’s poison in your soup? Oh right, what kind of soup is this?"
Mengpo swallowed her saliva, said nothing, and silently checked the large iron pot beside her, which was stewing a pot of "Hot and Spicy Soup." She looked puzzled and muttered to herself, "It wasn’t switched..."
"Hey, old lady, did you hear me? Give me another bowl of your... um... Hot and Spicy Soup!" Qin Shou called out.
Mengpo’s face darkened as she asked, "What did you say this soup is?"
Qin Shou retorted, "Isn’t it Hot and Spicy Soup?"
Mengpo’s eyes immediately reddened, she swept Qin Shou’s bowl out of his hand, took out a small bucket, and filled it with the soup from the iron pot. Then with a cackling laugh, she said emphatically, "Hot! And! Spicy! Soup?"
Mengpo then laughed out of extreme anger, "Ha ha... Hot and Spicy Soup? What a Hot and Spicy Soup! Since you think it is Hot and Spicy Soup, then go ahead and drink it!"
Qin Shou, with an odd look on his face, observed the ferocious yet extremely generous and kind old woman offering soup, shook his head, and mumbled, "Though a little twisted in character, she still seems to be a good person at heart, much better than my master..."
Mumbling, Qin Shou was reminded of his first meal at the Kitchen God’s place, when he didn’t eat anything but ended up owing the Kitchen God a fortune, and was eventually forced to do odd jobs to repay the debt. Looking at the generous old woman again, Qin Shou shook his head and walked away, contentedly carrying a large bucket of Hot and Spicy Soup.
Mengpo seemed unconcerned with the Rabbit, but in reality, she focused all her attention on him. She observed Qin Shou’s gaze changing in complexity as he drank more and more of Mengpo’s Soup: starting with a malicious smirk, then surprise, followed by shock, and finally, as she saw the Rabbit enjoying his large bucket of soup, a smile hung on her lips, but she eventually returned to calmness.
Unaware of Mengpo’s thoughts, Qin Shou leaned comfortably on the railing, sipping the Hot and Spicy Soup, watching countless ghosts churn in the river. At that moment, he saw a shadow in the water, seemingly the shadow of the bridge he was standing on, so he began to scrutinize it. However, the swirling waters were like mud, hardly revealing the reflection, making it hard to discern what it was even after a long gaze.
Meanwhile, Mengpo served a bowl of Mengpo’s Soup to a newly arrived ghost, who asked upon seeing Mengpo, "What is this?"
With an indifferent tone, Mengpo said, "Drink it."
The ghost uttered a sound of affirmation, tilting their head to drink. In that instant, tears slid from the ghost’s eyes, and after a moment of agonized expression, they became peaceful, then turned to Mengpo with a blank face and asked, "Where am I?"
Mengpo pointed behind herself and said, "Go on, you’ll know once you’ve passed."
The ghost nodded and began to walk forward blankly, glancing at the Rabbit on the side drinking gleefully, furrowing their brows as though pondering why the Rabbit wasn’t moving forward.
This bridge is very long, so long that one can’t see the end. After a hundred meters, the bridge is swallowed by darkness, with no one knowing what lies beyond it, and nobody knowing what sort of world is on the other side of the river beneath their feet.
