Chapter 49: Chapter 49 Don’t Drink Alcohol [Part 1]_1
Qin Shou was absolutely certain of this, so even though his life was not so great afterward, as long as he was improving every day, he kept an open mind, laughing joyously and delightfully content.
Especially when Qin Shou discovered that this venue was not monolithic, but artificially divided into two sides!
On one side was the Black Dog leading the team, sitting on the mountain to the left. On the other side was a green-haired lion sitting there, sitting tall and mighty, with a pair of eyes that were incomparably fierce, and underneath him sat a group of oddly shaped demons, it was unclear whether they were pets or mounts, but they all looked like no good.
These demons looked at each other like hungry wolves, as if they were ready to attack each other at any moment.
With this view, Qin Shou knew that this place was probably not at peace.
The heavenly official still seemed to hold a grudge against Qin Shou’s recent remark, and asked again, "Rabbit, what did you mean by ’takeout’?"
Qin Shou cracked a smile and said, "No worries, I’ve already signed for it. The goods this time are very fresh."
Qin Shou’s eyes, sly and gleaming, swept over those demons, who knows what he was thinking.
The heavenly official, puzzled by what he heard, but without the luxury of time to chat with Qin Shou, exchanged some pleasantries and then took his leave.
As soon as the heavenly official left, Qin Shou clearly saw the demons on both sides focus on him like a series of searchlights, all their gazes sharply turning to him.
Qin Shou was not intimidated, knowing that although these fellows looked fierce, no one here dared to really catch a rabbit to roast it for meat. On the contrary, if he had a chance, he wouldn’t mind having a feast of all kinds of beasts. So, he casually tugged at his rabbit ears and asked, "Why are you all staring at me like that?"
"Little rabbit, why don’t you sit down?" the Green Lion asked with a sly laugh.
Qin Shou thought to himself, how could I sit? Sitting down would mean choosing a side, making allies... If it was with a strong individual that would be fine, but if it was with a weakling, most likely once he left the Southern Gate he would be turned into braised rabbit head.
Qin Shou was a bit torn...
"Little rabbit, not sitting down yet? Don’t tell me you’d prefer to stand and perform a show to entertain everyone?" the White Horse Spirit under the Green Lion snickered and laughed.
Before Qin Shou could speak, the crowd around the Green Lion had already started shouting.
"That’s right, little rabbit, come on, sing us a song."
"Little rabbit, dance a dance, cheer your brothers up!"
"Little rabbit, you’re quite plump, aren’t you?"
...
A large group of demons shouted chaotically, especially the White Horse Spirit, who was the most enthusiastic.
On the Black Dog’s side, on the other hand, no one spoke up, all of them sitting there grinning as if they were watching a play.
The more Qin Shou listened, the darker his face became. He was just there to boost Chang’e’s courage and incidentally cheer from the sidelines; who had he offended for them to want to see him make a fool of himself?
Pick a fight with these fellows? Qin Shou was mischievous, not foolish. Honestly, he had no clear idea of his own capabilities, so he was even less willing to make enemies carelessly. But to be tricked by these jerks into stepping down and dancing or singing? That would be utterly humiliating... If Chang’e and Wu Gang ever heard of this, he’d likely die of their laughter.
Qin Shou had always had a mulish temperament; although he had always been poor, he carried an undeniable pride in his bones. Could he swallow the insult of being played like a monkey? Not a chance.
Pulling at his long ears, Qin Shou suddenly had a stroke of inspiration, and the corner of his mouth curled up slightly. He had an idea!
"Rabbit, are you not giving our big brother, Green Lion, any face? Not even willing to sing when asked? Aren’t you acting a bit too haughty?" the White Horse Spirit called out.
"Exactly, exactly, Rabbit, you’re not giving big brother any face at all! Believe it or not, once we leave the Southern Gate, I’ll stew you and eat your meat!" a Monkey shouted.
Qin Shou clasped his hands together in a salute and said to Green Lion, Dog Xiaotian, and the other big demons, "Big brothers, it’s not that I don’t want to give face to everyone, it’s just that I know too few songs. From my youth to now, I only know one, and I’m not sure if it’s appropriate to sing."
"Let’s hear it," Green Lion said with a chuckle, showing interest.
Once Green Lion spoke, the White Horse Spirit immediately shouted, "Big brother Green Lion has spoken, why aren’t you singing already?"
At this moment, Dog Xiaotian chuckled and said, "Gentlemen, this little rabbit isn’t your pet. Expecting a song without offering anything in return, tsk tsk... Has Buddhism really become that destitute?"
With those words, all the demons on Green Lion’s side frowned, but nobody dared to interject; they all looked towards Green Lion.
Green Lion chuckled and said, "Of course he won’t sing for nothing. As long as this little rabbit can belt out something that brings a smile to this king, this magic treasure will belong to him!"
While speaking, Green Lion took out a Seal and placed it on the table.
"The Green Mountain Seal?" Dog Xiaotian exclaimed in surprise, "You forged this Green Mountain Seal using ten peaks brimming with Spiritual Energy. While its power may not be great, it weighs three thousand catties, getting heavier as it grows larger! Even if you give it to the rabbit, he won’t be able to move it, will he?"
Green Lion chuckled and shamelessly replied, "Well, it’s his if I give it to him. If he can’t lift it, it’s not this king’s fault."
Upon hearing this, Qin Shou’s eyebrows knitted together. This big lion seemed quite generous, but as soon as he opened his mouth, it was clear he was a penny-pincher! A leading figure should be able to reward Qin Shou with a mere magic treasure at will. But this guy didn’t want to part with even a cent, making a show of offering the Green Mountain Seal, obviously relying on his powerful strength and the incredibly heavy magic treasure to renege on the deal!
The catties of the Immortal realm were different from those of mortals; here, one catty was equivalent to the weight of an entire mountain. Three thousand catties equaled the weight of three thousand mountains. How could Qin Shou lift something so heavy? Moreover, from what Dog Xiaotian implied, the mountain could grow and become even heavier, which was quite frightening.
"Little Rabbit, the prize is ready. Aren’t you going to come down and sing?" the White Horse Spirit, ever-ready to brown-nose, immediately urged.
Qin Shou cleared his throat and said, "Since that’s the case, then I’ll sing. But just a friendly reminder, I’m not a good singer, so don’t get angry if it’s not good. And uh, don’t drink water, don’t drink alcohol... "
Qin Shou’s initial claims were made boldly, but he purposely lowered his voice when advising them against drinking water and alcohol. As nobody really took him seriously, of course, they didn’t listen closely.
"Stop the nonsense, just sing already," the White Horse Spirit demanded.
Qin Shou took a deep breath, and everyone quieted down—not to enjoy, but purely for amusement and to tease the rabbit.
Unperturbed, Qin Shou thought about the lyrics and then began to sing:
"Give me a patch of blue sky, a rising sun new and bright.
Give me a stretch of green grass, reaching into the far sight.
Give me a mighty eagle, a man of valor and might.
Give me a lasso in hand, grasped by him tight..."
With Qin Shou’s opening, those looking forward to a laugh were suddenly taken aback. Though they found the tune odd and unfamiliar, the expansive and broad quality of his voice still caused a jolt of spirit in these musically unsophisticated folks, making their eyes light up.
"Hey, this little rabbit’s not bad at singing," the Immortal Crane on the sidelines commended.
Dog Xiaotian nodded in agreement, tapping his foot to the rhythm while he casually took out a flask of wine, drinking freely and enjoying himself.
