Chapter 48: Chapter 48 Your Order Has Arrived_1
Standing in the square, Qin Shou looked at the ground, grinning and baring his teeth. The white jade beneath him was like a mirror, reflecting all of his details. Looking into the distance, the sky was reflected on the white jade ground, merging heaven and earth, as if he were suspended in midair. It was a different feeling from actually flying, but in any case, it was beautiful.
However, Qin Shou still murmured, "Ah, what a waste, all this jade, wouldn’t it taste good if eaten? What’s the point of paving this place with it? We’re all immortals, if we really need to have a meeting in the sky, why not just fly up and be done with it?"
Upon hearing this, Chang’e quickly covered the fellow’s mouth to prevent any trouble.
Yunkong True Master secretly wiped off some cold sweat and whispered, "What do you know? Magic is cheap stuff; what’s under our feet is the real quality material, able to showcase the grandeur of the Heavenly Court."
Once he heard this, Qin Shou thought it made sense. Nonetheless, he still felt it was a pity to have it just laid here when it could be put to better use in his stomach.
Just then, a heavenly official approached and said to Chang’e, "Fairy, pets are not allowed at the Mid-Year Festival gathering. All pets will be kept in a separate area to wait. Please hand over this rabbit to me, and I will take him to where he belongs. Once the gathering is over, I will return him to the fairy."
Chang’e instinctively hugged Qin Shou tighter, and Qin Shou clung to Chang’e’s arm as well, determined not to be parted.
Yunkong True Master hastily said, "Although the gathering doesn’t forbid bringing pets, indeed they can’t enter the main venue. They have a separate area where they can stay and still see the scene over there. I think it’s best to comply."
Upon hearing this, Chang’e frowned and asked, "Over there? Isn’t this the venue?"
Yunkong True Master laughed and replied, "This place is merely a transport platform. The prestigious Jade Emperor would never grace such a place with his presence. The location of the Mid-Year Festival gathering is in a small world, and the scenery there is truly beautiful."
Chang’e tensed up and said, "Is there no way to make an exception? To let me take it inside?"
"I’m sorry, fairy, but these are the rules," the heavenly official replied, smiling patiently as he explained.
At that moment, Yunkong True Master exclaimed, "Look, Immortal Master of Clear Origin and Good Path has arrived!"
Qin Shou and Chang’e turned to look just in time to see a man in silver armor, splendid and handsome, striding across the sky. As he passed, all creatures, whether they be great beasts, dragons, or even phoenixes, bowed their heads to make way for him. Qin Shou couldn’t help but admire his majestic bearing. He was the only man that Qin Shou and Chang’e saw flying in this area!
Yunkong True Master sighed, "It’s no wonder he is the Immortal Master of Clear Origin and Good Path; only he can fly so unrestrainedly in the Heavenly Court, despite not being a Great Golden Immortal."
The old immortal, who appeared from nowhere, joined in the sentiment, "You can’t compare. We won’t even mention the background of the Immortal Master of Clear Origin and Good Path, just his pure strength... Ah, he stood out during the Divine Enthronement battle, and now, after so many years, who knows how powerful he has become. Back when he was breaking mountains to rescue his mother, he was just a youth. Now he’s a formidable power, commanding the Guan Estuary, an invincible being who follows his own rules. And we, after living for so many years, are still worthless..."
Yunkong True Master and Qin Shou quickly distanced themselves upon hearing this, and Chang’e stepped back too. Qin Shou bluntly said, "Old guy, speak for yourself, we’re not all worthless. Only you are; I’m still young, I’ve still got time to enjoy life."
The old immortal just glanced at them and said nothing.
A heavenly official then stood in front of the Immortal Master of Clear Origin and Good Path and saluted, "I pay my respects to the Immortal Master of Clear Origin and Good Path."
The Immortal Master of Clear Origin and Good Path seemed to understand the official’s intention. With a wave of his hand, the big black dog behind him smacked his lips, somewhat reluctantly, but still lifted his head and walked over with an arrogant air.
Then the heavenly official walked away with the big black dog...
"That’s Dog Xiaotian! Even Dog Xiaotian is following along..." Yunkong True Master said in surprise.
Qin Shou grimaced and said, "Is that Dog Xiaotian? What happened to his leg? It looks like someone broke it..."
As soon as these words were spoken, a few people looked closely and, indeed, Dog Xiaotian walked with extraordinary awkwardness, evidently having injured his leg.
"My heavens, that’s Dog Xiaotian, the dog of the Immortal Master of Clear Origin and Good Path. Who would dare to strike him?"
"Not sure," the old Immortal and Yunkong True Master said.
At that moment, the heavenly official spoke again, "Fairy, what do you think?"
Even the dog of the Immortal Master of Clear Origin and Good Path had been led away. What else could Qin Shou say? To argue any further at this time would be to court disaster.
Thus, Qin Shou and Chang’e exchanged glances, both understanding that they were to be separated for the time being.
So Qin Shou nodded, hopped down to the ground, and said, "Heavenly official, please lead the way. I will follow you."
The heavenly official nodded slightly, and after confirming Chang’e’s permission, he led Qin Shou away.
The heavenly official took Qin Shou to another part of the White Jade Plaza, and with a flash of light, the two appeared in another realm.
The heavenly official smiled and said, "Little Rabbit, how do you like it? The environment is pretty good, isn’t it?"
Qin Shou’s eyes suddenly bulged. Indeed, the environment was impressive here: clouds and mists swirling, rainbows draping, and a waterfall that plunged from the sky into a deep, bottomless lake at the center, surrounded by mountains. These mountains had been terraced by human effort into flat platforms, like steps.
Though called flat ground, it was actually carved entirely from jade, complete with tables and chairs. However, the creatures seated on these chairs were of every variety imaginable.
Pigs, dogs, cows, sheep, dragons, snakes, horses, and elephants sat in a row, each with a shiny empty plate in front of them. As Qin Shou entered, they looked over with slanted eyes while holding chopsticks, and that feeling...
Qin Shou looked up at the heavenly official and asked, "Brother, are you perhaps moonlighting for Meituan or Ele.me as a food delivery guy?"
The heavenly official was blank-faced and asked, "What’s food delivery?"
Qin Shou knew there was a generation gap and shook his head, "No worries, Brother. Is there anywhere else we can go? Missing one rabbit shouldn’t matter much at this animal assembly, right?"
The heavenly official was at a loss for words but then laughed, "This is the sub-venue. Just find a seat anywhere and take a seat."
Qin Shou said, "Anywhere?"
The heavenly official nodded, "Yes, anywhere. Here, there are no distinctions of rank."
Although the heavenly official said this, Qin Shou still saw a hint of something peculiar in his eyes. Obviously, this lack of distinction of rank was much like the call for human rights and equality in his previous life. Slogans can be quite loud, but in reality, how could true equality ever be possible?
Even Old Master Qin knew, "In this world, where does absolute equality exist? Everyday chanting not to let children lose at the starting line, but truly privileged families have their offspring already at the finish line; why would they need to run? If one could reap rewards from hard work, gain more from greater effort, and make progress through diligence, that would be equality. But expecting everyone to receive the same is simply impossible. With such limited resources in the world and so many people, how could there be enough to go around?"
