Chapter 38: Chapter 38 Rabbit Stayed Behind_1

Qin Shou took a closer look and immediately understood. In the legends, indeed four Deity Generals guarded the Southern Gate, also known as the Four Generals of the Mo Family, the Four Heavenly Kings.

They were the Zengzhang Heavenly Lord of the South, Mo Liqing, with a face like a live crab, beard like copper wire, holding the Qingfeng Sword;

The Chiguo Heavenly Lord of the East, Mo Lihai, wielding a spear and carrying a sea-blue Pipa on his back;

The Guangmu Heavenly Lord of the North, Mo Lihong, holding the Chaotic Umbrella;

And the Guangmu Heavenly Lord of the West, Mo Lishou, wielding two golden whips!

However, at this moment, standing before the gate was only one, that was Mo Lishou, holding two golden whips!

Mo Lishou’s eyes blazed like torches, just a sweep over them brought immense pressure, but clearly he was also being cautious about something, so Chang’e was uncomfortable but not pressured to the point of prostrating or anything like that. As for Qin Shou, he felt nothing of this imposing aura. His thieving, glistening eyes activated the Treasured Eye, scanning over Mo Lishou’s body, and then his saliva started to drool.

At the same time, Qin Shou took out a magic treasure and popped it into his mouth, crunching away... to replenish the Yuan Qi lost from activating the Treasured Eye.

"Goodness, truly worthy of being one of the Four Heavenly Kings, the whole body is full of treasures! Although not as awesome as Wu Gang’s getup, it’s still not bad, much better than any Sea-blue Stone," muttered Qin Shou to himself.

Chang’e too came back to her senses just then and hurriedly greeted him with a bow, "Superior God, do not be offended, this humble fairy was born in the wilderness and does not understand the customs of the Heavenly Court. If there has been any offense, please be magnanimous."

Mo Lishou sneered, "A humble fairy? What kind of fairy are you? I’ve guarded the Southern Heavenly Gate for countless years, and I recognize all the immortals of the Heavenly Court. How come I do not remember you? Could it be you’re impersonating an Official God, attempting to infiltrate the Heavenly Court?"

The words that followed were incredibly stern as he asked loudly in a harsh voice.

Chang’e’s face grew even paler with fear, but deep down, Chang’e was not a timid woman, and her true nature was to grow stronger when faced with strength.

Qin Shou whispered, "This fellow is acting strange as if targeting us. Don’t waste words with him, just show him the invitation to the Mid-Yuan Festival."

Chang’e nodded her head, took out a golden invitation, and said, "Superior God, I am but a nameless fairy from the moon. This is the invitation to the Mid-Yuan Festival, please take a look."

Mo Lishou frowned, a wave of his hand and the invitation flew towards him, glanced at it, and then nodded slightly, "Indeed, this is the invitation to the Mid-Yuan Festival, I must have been mistaken. You may pass, but the rabbit must stay behind."

Chang’e thought the matter would be resolved just like that, but to her utter surprise, Mo Lishou suddenly fixed his gaze on Qin Shou.

Qin Shou was also startled, thinking to himself that he hadn’t done anything, so why was this guy targeting him?

Chang’e quickly said, "Superior God, Yu’er is my pet. Aren’t we allowed to bring pets to the Mid-Yuan Festival? Besides, Yu’er’s name is on it."

Mo Lishou sneered, "That’s a privilege for Official Gods. You, a nameless little fairy, also want such treatment? Who do you think you are? Besides, the invitation states, ’Fairy Chang’e’s pet dog, Yu’er!’ Is this a dog?"

Upon hearing this, Qin Shou was so angry he almost choked on his own blood!

Qin Shou cursed inwardly, "Old Taibai, you scoundrel! Such a lousy teammate!"

Chang’e was also completely baffled; at the time, Taibai Star Monarch only knew how to write but not to read, so Chang’e also didn’t know what Taibai had written. She never expected that Taibai, the pet-blind, actually made a mistake!

Chang’e said, "If that’s the case, then I shall send Yu’er back first and return here after."

Upon hearing this, Mo Lishou immediately said, "The Mid-Yuan Festival is about to begin. If you are late, you will be disrespecting the Queen Mother and the Jade Emperor, a crime punishable by death."

Chang’e furrowed her brows and said, "Then what do you want?"

Mo Lishou replied, "Hand over the rabbit to this deity, you go and attend the Hungry Ghost Festival feast. When you return, this deity will return the rabbit to you."

Chang’e was no fool. The grand Southern Gate, the Four Heavenly Lords, would they kindly look after a rabbit for her? Moreover, from beginning to end, Mo Lishou’s attitude had been too cold, as if his pride did not allow him to regard anyone at all. Would such a cold person be so kind-hearted?

As Chang’e was struggling with what to do, Qin Shou stared intently at Mo Lishou. He noticed that when Mo Lishou glanced at him, there was a deep chill in his eyes, and one of his hands was on a pocket at his waist, gently stroking it as if pacifying something.

Upon closer inspection, Qin Shou realized that within that pocket were a pair of bright red eyes opening and closing!

All at once, Qin Shou remembered that although Mo Lishou used two golden whips, what was truly formidable was the fierce creature in that pouch at his waist—the White Rat! Also known as the Purple Gold Flower Mink!

Legend has it that once the Purple Gold Flower Mink soared into the sky, it could transform into a white elephant with ribs sprouting wings, capable of devouring all mankind!

In the "Investiture of the Gods," this creature had even swallowed Yang Jian, proving itself to be ferociously unrivaled.

Qin Shou felt a bit cowardly, thinking, "Could it be this fellow had ordered a takeout, and with it not arriving, plans to eat me as an appetizer?"

"Chang’e, you’d better think clearly, there’s not much time left. Either hand over the rabbit to this deity and attend the Hungry Ghost Festival, or stay here and await death!" Mo Lishou said indifferently.

Chang’e gritted her teeth and said, "This fairy does not..."

Before she could finish her sentence, Qin Shou suddenly exclaimed, "It’s impossible not to go, isn’t it? We’ve come all this way, wouldn’t it be disrespectful to not attend after all the Jade Emperor and Queen Mother have done? Lady Chang’e, go ahead, I’ll wait for you here with the Heavenly Lord."

Upon hearing this, Chang’e immediately became anxious, "What?"

Qin Shou suddenly leaped forward, landing on the flat ground in front of the Southern Gate and flicked his large ears, saying, "What’s this? No problem, could the Heavenly Lord actually eat me?"

Mo Lishou snorted coldly and said, "Rest assured, this deity is yet to stoop to eating a mere rabbit."

No sooner had he spoken than the pouch at Mo Lishou’s waist suddenly opened and a streak of red light shot out, landing beside Qin Shou, towering over him at twice his size!

Qin Shou looked up at the huge creature in front of him and said with a grin, "Damn, didn’t you say it was a White Rat? How did you get as fat as a pig?"

The one who had arrived was indeed the Purple Gold Flower Mink!

Chang’e shouted in alarm, "What are you doing?"

Mo Lishou replied with a faint smile, "Nothing much, just some interaction and playing between pets. Fairy need not worry, please go inside quickly, the Hungry Ghost Festival feast will start soon."

The Purple Gold Flower Mink raised its eyebrows at Qin Shou and licked its lips, then bent down, staring intently at him.

Qin Shou, seeing the fierce look in the mink’s eyes, grinned awkwardly and asked instinctively, "What are you looking at?"

The Purple Gold Flower Mink replied, "Why, you got a problem with that?"

Qin Shou was taken aback and said, "You from the Northeast or something? Are we fellow townspeople or what?"

The Purple Gold Flower Mink frowned and said, "What nonsense are you talking about?" Then it turned back to look at Mo Lishou and nodded slightly, as if confirming something.
