Chapter 29: Chapter 29 Say a few more words_1
Qin Shou said, "In any case, you must be confident, you are the most beautiful! And then there’s the dance."
Chang’e asked, "What dance are you actually going to teach me?"
Qin Shou leaned in and whispered a few words into Chang’e’s ear, to which Chang’e exclaimed in surprise, "Can this... really work?"
Qin Shou chuckled and said, "Whether it works or not, won’t we know if we try? Anyway, in my memory, this is the only dance that I can present with confidence and that has received praise. The rest are good, but they are not suitable for the Mid-Year Festival."
"Uh, you know a lot of dances?" Chang’e looked at Qin Shou in surprise.
Qin Shou pointed to his head and said, "A genius’s brain, drawing inferences from one example, composing a dance, what’s so tough about that?"
Chang’e gave him a disdainful glance, not believing a word he said.
Qin Shou said, "Next, I’ll do the movements while you watch. They might not be that standard, you’ll have to fill in the rest with your imagination. Then you dance, and I’ll point out any flaws."
"Okay." Chang’e was also very serious, knowing that this thing was a matter of life and death for both of them.
Over the next few days, Qin Shou taught the dance and even took to the floor himself, although he danced very poorly.
But Chang’e’s understanding of dance was so intuitive that it left Qin Shou completely astounded!
Often, when Qin Shou couldn’t do a movement, or did it so awkwardly it was unrecognizable, as long as he performed it and described what the scene should look like, Chang’e could recreate it perfectly, even better than the dancers in Qin Shou’s memory!
Every frown, every smile, a glance of the eye, she kept outdoing the original!
Watching this, Qin Shou sincerely marveled, "It seems that the myths and legends from Earth are not entirely nonsensical after all, there really are similarities."
In one day, Chang’e had mastered the dance and began to try infusing her own understanding, adapting the dance, and as she did, the direction of the dance underwent a qualitative change...
Qin Shou watched more and more in astonishment, more and more dazzled, never having imagined that the dance could express such emotions!
At first, Qin Shou could still offer some guidance.
Later on, the only thing left for Qin Shou to do was to serve tea, pour water, offer osmanthus flowers, and occasionally shout, "Awesome..."
Half a month flew by quickly, and before they knew it, it was already the fifteenth of July the next day, and both Qin Shou and Chang’e were suffering from insomnia.
The two sat atop a large stone, hugging their knees, looking up at the Milky Way strewn across the sky...
Chang’e asked, "Yu’er, are you afraid of death?"
Qin Shou thought for a while and said, "I used to be afraid, then I wasn’t, and later I was again."
Chang’e felt dizzy with his answer, "So are you afraid or not?"
Qin Shou said, "Dying alone is scary. You must feel very lonely on the moon by yourself."
Chang’e asked, "What if two people die together?"
Upon hearing this, Qin Shou fell silent, but his eyes revealed a nearly mad defiance!
The happiest days of Qin Shou’s life were the ones he spent with his old master and these days he had lived with Chang’e.
But what made him incredibly depressed was that, it seemed, happy days were always short-lived.
When his old master ascended to the heavens, he, as a mortal, was helpless.
In the Immortal Realm, Chang’e might also die, and he was still powerless...
For the first time, Qin Shou felt an almost mad longing for power!
If I had enough strength, just like Sun Wukong, to ascend directly to the Heavenly Court and take Chang’e away, how wonderful that would be... but alas, I’m just trash who can’t even protect myself.
"Yu’er, I’m talking to you," Chang’e said, pressing for an answer when Qin Shou remained silent.
Qin Shou looked up at Chang’e’s breathtakingly beautiful face, and his downcast heart felt quite consoled. He mustered a slight smile and said, "If it involves two people, then I really don’t want to die... but if I truly died, I would take you to Naihe Bridge, where the bustling Road to the Netherworld lies. We’d gaze at the dim sunlight over the River of Oblivion, watch the manjusaka flowering across the bank. As long as we stay together, everywhere is a beautiful sight, what then is death to us?"
Upon hearing these words, a smile spread across Chang’e’s face. Then it grew, until she couldn’t hold back her joy and burst into a dance in front of Qin Shou, spinning around in place, laughing, "Hehe... Holding you, walking on Naihe Bridge, watching the stream of the Netherworld, cherishing the blooming manjusaka—it all sounds so beautiful. Suddenly, I’m not so scared of death..."
Qin Shou said, "Yeah, I’m not that scared either. Since we’re no longer afraid, who cares whether it’s the Zhongyuan Festival gathering or some damn meeting, let’s give it our all!"
For the first time, Chang’e felt confident about the Zhongyuan Festival gathering, her chin tilted up slightly as she gazed at the hidden stretches of the heavenly palace deep within the starry sky, and spoke indifferently, "Together, there’s nothing to be afraid of."
In that instant, Chang’e seemed to drift gracefully into existence, her flawless demeanor took Qin Shou’s breath away!
From Qin Shou’s perspective, Chang’e stood beneath the osmanthus tree, looking up at the starry sky, where the heavenly palace lay deep amongst the stars, which was above the endless mainland... Yet, none of these matched the radiant beauty of the woman before him!
Her beauty transcended all others, a true expression of nature’s splendor!
Qin Shou was so captivated that he lost himself in the moment...
Until Chang’e turned around and tapped on his head, asking, "What are you thinking about?"
Qin Shou wiped the drool from his mouth and said, "About dinner."
"Dinner on what?" Chang’e was puzzled.
Qin Shou, dead serious, replied, "Feasting one’s eyes on beauty."
Chang’e’s cheeks flushed red as she shot Qin Shou a glance and said, "You’re always spouting nonsense! Let’s sleep! To restore spirit and strength, by tomorrow, we must at least not be inferior to those fairies who have descended to the mortal realm!"
Qin Shou had expected Chang’e to say something more assertive like defeating the competition, but instead, she came up with this.
Qin Shou covered his face and said, "Couldn’t you be more imposing? Believe in yourself, you’re unlike those gaudy creatures out there!" At the same time, he silently apologized in his heart, "Innocent fairies, sorry for speaking ill of you behind your backs."
Chang’e chortled and responded, "It’s not a competition, if we catch up to their level, then we won’t have to die, isn’t that right?"
Thinking it over, Qin Shou realized she made sense! Being too ostentatious could indeed attract trouble.
Chang’e kept her word. Once in bed, she quickly fell asleep, but in her slumber, her brow furrowed slightly as if she faced some trouble.
Qin Shou leaned closer, smoothing out Chang’e’s brows with his paw, whispering softly, "Whether we ascend to the heavens or descend into the earth, I’ll be with you. Have a good sleep, everything is going to be okay."
Indeed, Chang’e’s brow relaxed, and her breathing steadied.
While Chang’e slept, Qin Shou couldn’t. Throughout the long night, he had no desire to gnaw on tree bark.
He deliberated, then chose a direction and set off.
"One million thirty-six thousand and seven..."
Wu Gang swung his great axe at the osmanthus tree, then pulled it out again.
Just then, Wu Gang suddenly turned his head and saw, not far behind him, a rabbit slowly approaching.
Wu Gang said as if facing a formidable enemy, "Scram!"
Qin Shou, speechless, said, "We’re so familiar with each other, can’t you be more elegant? Would a few extra words kill you?"
Wu Gang pointed at Qin Shou’s nose and commanded, "Fine, you... get further away!"
