Chapter 285: Chapter 282 Bodhi Talks about the Rabbit [Second Update]_1

Qin Shou said, "There’s so much leftover space at the foot of the mountain."

Guang Shan roared, "Is that the same thing?"

Qin Shou, covering his ears and grimacing, said, "Second Senior Brother, a little quieter... We’re civilized people."

"Civilized my ass! I’m telling you, as long as I’m here today, I’m definitely protecting this Cold Bamboo!" Guang Shan yelled.

Qin Shou sighed, "Second Senior Brother, you’re really pushing me... Let me tell you, I’m someone who sticks to promises. If I said I’d finish it off, then I’ll finish it off! If you want to protect it, fine, just wait and see. When you doze off, ’I’ will make my move."

After saying that, Qin Shou tossed his head and walked away!

Seeing this, Guang Shan was suddenly dumbfounded. What did this damn rabbit mean, going against him?

If it were not for the sect rules against fighting fellow disciples, he would have stewed this rabbit a long time ago!

But now, he also felt rather helpless. The rabbit’s intent was clear, "Keep watch if you dare; if you’re not there, I’ll kill the Iron Bamboo, so figure it out!"

Keep watch? Until when? It’s not the stealing I fear, but the thief’s coveting!

Not keep watch? Then this last sole survivor would definitely meet its doom at the rabbit’s hands. Thinking of the consequences, including begging the master to appeal for Magic for the rabbit’s sake, facing the punishment for having the Iron Bamboo Forest chopped down, as well as the gazes from his fellow brothers, suddenly made his scalp tingle...

In the end, Guang Shan decided he wasn’t leaving!

So, from that day on, Fangcun Mountain had one less burly, idle Guang Shan and one more Guang Shan who sat in bitter cultivation under the solitary Iron Bamboo, famously nicknamed the Guardian of the Bamboo...

"The Monkey, Second Senior Brother seems to be serious this time. You probably won’t get your hands on this one," Sun Wukong said, looking at Guang Shan in the distance.

Qin Shou indifferently said, "Just an Iron Pillar, no big deal... By the way, what Magic did you learn today?"

Sun Wukong sighed deeply, "Ah, I’ve learned quite a few, but without wine and meat, I’m so bland I could spit out a bird; I don’t have the energy to talk..."

Qin Shou gave him a disdainful look and said, "Look at you, no ambition. Come on, ’I’ will take you hunting!"

As soon as Sun Wukong heard this, he was overjoyed!

And so, the two went down the mountain together.

Thus, Sun Wukong once again witnessed the shamelessness of this rabbit: any delicious prey he set his eyes on always had a reason to end up in the pot...

After having their fill of food and drink.

Sun Wukong said, "Rabbit, let me tell you about the 72 Earthly Fiends Changes..."

At the same moment, above the nine heavens, within Purple Sky Palace, a Taoist suddenly calculated something and dreaded the worst...

Meanwhile, atop the high platform of Fangcun Mountain, Subhuti Patriarch set down the book in his hands and shouted angrily, "Wukong! Where are you?"

Sun Wukong, about to discuss the contents of the 72 Earthly Fiends Changes, heard the call of Subhuti Patriarch and got quite a shock, enough to sober him up quite a bit, and he hurriedly went up the mountain to see Subhuti Patriarch.

He had a lot of respect for his master.

"Disciple greets Master," Sun Wukong said, saluting.

Subhuti Patriarch asked angrily, "Wukong, did you impart any Magic to Qin Shou?"

Surprised, Sun Wukong was tempted to lie, but facing his master, he chose to tell the truth, nodding and saying, "Master, my junior brother wanted to learn..."

"You taught it?" Subhuti Patriarch interrupted Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong nodded, "I did, but I only taught the Cultivation Method, nothing else..."

Upon hearing this, Subhuti Patriarch let out a sigh and said, "Wukong, I’ve told you not to show off the Magic I taught you in front of fellow disciples, nor to teach it to others. You..."

Sun Wukong said, "Master, my junior brother is not an outsider."

Subhuti Patriarch heaved another long sigh and said, "Enough, go call Qin Shou here."

Following the command, Sun Wukong immediately went down the mountain to find the rabbit.

Soon, both of them arrived, and discovered that the other disciples had also come, standing on both sides just like when the two of them first came to the sect to become disciples.

"Wukong, do you realize your mistake?" Subhuti Patriarch asked.

Sun Wukong nodded in acknowledgment.

Subhuti Patriarch then asked Qin Shou, "Qin Shou, you secretly learned the sect’s Cultivation Techniques, do you realize your mistake?"

On the way here, Qin Shou had already gleaned the situation and knew what Subhuti Patriarch was referring to, so he nodded and said, "Disciple understands his mistake."

Subhuti Patriarch sighed deeply and said, "Qin Shou, do you know why I was reluctant to take you as a disciple and, having accepted you, refused to teach you Magic?"

Qin Shou said, "Master, are you afraid that your disciple would cause trouble?"

Upon hearing ’cause trouble,’ Subhuti Patriarch glanced at Sun Wukong, then shook his head, "If I were afraid of trouble, I wouldn’t have taken you guys in the first place."

Qin Shou was confused and scratched his head, "Master, then why?"

Subhuti Patriarch said, "Qin Shou, since I’ve taken you as a disciple, I must take responsibility for you. Some things weren’t supposed to be said, but today, I might as well tell you. You have demon-like talent, and you harbor a secret of primordial chaos within you. This secret is known by some and unknown by others, but there’s a consensus that we absolutely must not teach you any Cultivation Techniques."

"Why?" Qin Shou’s heart shivered; he had known for a long time that there was something wrong with his body. He had tried to ask around but alas, no one would tell him.

Ji Dian offered only two remarks, and Wu Gang was even more reticent, refusing to mention anything at all.

This only increased Qin Shou’s confusion...

Little did he expect that Subhuti Patriarch would actually bring it up. Was his talent demonic? Did he harbor a primordial secret? Did he hold some great mystery within himself?

What did that mean?

Subhuti Patriarch, with a wave of his hand, had all disciples withdraw, even Sun Wukong was taken away, leaving only Qin Shou behind.

Subhuti Patriarch said, "Rabbit, do you really want to learn Magic that much?"

Qin Shou sat cross-legged opposite Subhuti Patriarch and said, "Master, you should understand my body... If I don’t learn, I’m afraid I won’t live much longer. There are some things others don’t know, but I’m well aware of them. The speed at which my body consumes Yuan Qi is getting faster, and the things I eat are becoming less and less effective. Karma can shut them up for a while, but those debts must be repaid sooner or later... If the day comes when I have to pay, and I lack the strength..."

Subhuti Patriarch nodded slightly and said, "You have both bad karma and good fortune within you, and currently, the good fortune outweighs your bad karma, so there’s no danger. However, your body will force you to escalate your actions, which ultimately will indeed bring great trouble. But do you realize, without strength, it is you who will suffer, yet with strength, it will be all beings who suffer."

"What do you mean? Master, do I look like someone who would bring disaster upon the whole world?" Qin Shou was at a loss for words. He might have been a bit restless, but he surely hadn’t reached the point of being a fiend in human form.

However, Qin Shou saw a confirmation of this assumption in the eyes of Subhuti Patriarch.

Qin Shou was speechless...

Subhuti Patriarch said, "Qin Shou, the stronger you become, the stronger your body will be, and the stronger your body is, the more Yuan Qi it will need. This is a vicious cycle. Now, you need to consume immortal-level immortal materials just to feel full and to survive. If you were to cultivate, what do you think you would need to consume to prolong your life?"

Qin Shou was taken aback...

Subhuti Patriarch said, "Back when you were on the moon, you were weak and barely managed to sustain your life by eating the bark of the osmanthus tree. Do you think that would still work now?"

Qin Shou fell silent. Upon reflection, that was indeed the case... It was only because he had been getting by more and more comfortably that he’d created the illusion that his illness was insignificant. But in reality, the crisis had never left; it had only been intensifying!

Unwilling to accept this, Qin Shou said, "Master, I know you are a Saint. Can’t you cure my illness?"

Subhuti Patriarch narrowed his eyes, his gaze wavering slightly, before finally he sighed and said, "Since you know I am a Saint, you should understand that there are things in this world that even I can’t affect, things no one can do anything about."

Qin Shou sighed deeply, stood up, and bowed deeply to Subhuti Patriarch, "Disciple understands, I take my leave now."

After saying this, Qin Shou’s large ears drooped, and he turned to leave in dejection...

Qin Shou had once harbored countless dreams about the future. He had fantasized about becoming strong enough to ride an auspicious cloud to claim Chang’e as his bride; he had imagined that wherever he went, people would revere him as an ancestor... He had even dreamed of returning to Earth to make those who had looked down on him and bullied him pay.

But after today’s conversation, Qin Shou suddenly realized bitterly that his aspirations were merely fantasies, not even dreams!

When all hope was gone, Qin Shou’s spirits plummeted, and he suddenly didn’t know where to go from there...

Watching Qin Shou’s desolate figure, Subhuti Patriarch said, "Rabbit, as long as you don’t cultivate, should the sky fall, your master will hold it up for you."

Qin Shou responded with a bitter smile, "So, my cultivation would be more terrifying than the sky falling down?"

Subhuti Patriarch remained silent...

Qin Shou shook his head and walked away...

Upon descending the mountain, numerous disciples were waiting below, all of them looking curiously at the Rabbit, hesitating as if they were wondering what Subhuti Patriarch had said to the Rabbit.

However, in the end, many did not approach to ask since they were not close to the Rabbit, and they simply watched him leave.

Sun Wukong and Songguo exchanged glances and then followed after him.

"Rabbit, Rabbit! What’s wrong?" Songguo asked with concern.

Sun Wukong also said, "Rabbit, did the master scold you? You know, you don’t need to take it to heart..."

Qin Shou shook his head and said nothing; he returned to his villa and looked up at the sky in silence.

Songguo scratched his head and handed over an apple, asking, "Rabbit, are you hungry?"

Qin Shou managed a faint smile for Songguo, "Thanks, you eat it."

Sun Wukong said, "Rabbit, why don’t we go hunting?"

Qin Shou shook his head, "Not in the mood."

Sun Wukong and Songguo looked at each other, unsure of what to say. They felt a bit helpless and could only stand there keeping company with Qin Shou.

After a while, Qin Shou sighed deeply and said, "Wukong, Songguo, the master does not permit me to cultivate."

Both were startled...

Sun Wukong said, "Why not?"

Songguo looked at Qin Shou curiously as well.

Qin Shou shared some of his circumstances with them.

Songguo scratched his head and said, "This is a tough choice..."

Yet, Sun Wukong smirked and let out a derisive laugh.
