Chapter 280: Chapter 277: The Tricked Rabbit [Subscribe Please]_1

Qin Shou, upon hearing this, said with profound meaning, "Save some enthusiasm, you’ll have plenty of chances to look in the future, so you don’t end up getting sick of it."

Golden Cicada thought Qin Shou was referring to the long days ahead at the Western Gate, with many days of watching to come, so he chuckled and said, "I do enjoy this, so I won’t feel lonely or nauseated. But what about you, are you going to the Lower Realm now?"

Qin Shou replied, "Of course."

Golden Cicada opened the Three Immortals Road, and Qin Shou immediately descended to the Lower Realm.

After descending the Three Immortals Road, Qin Shou headed straight for Fangcun Mountain...

"Big Brother, we can’t indulge him like this!"

"Exactly, exactly!"

"This is the rule of our Fangcun Mountain, how can we abandon it just because of a rabbit?"

"Indeed, Big Brother. If we start this precedent, with everyone freely descending the mountain, wouldn’t that create chaos?"

...

Outside the Drum-hearing Tower on Fangcun Mountain, a group of people surrounded Guang Yun, making a racket.

Especially Guang Shan, who was particularly vocal.

Guang Yun humphed and said, "Guang Shan, since it’s you who are saying this, you go and take action."

Guang Shan, who had been shouting with gusto, suddenly furrowed his brows and shrunk his neck, saying, "The master isn’t home, and the eldest disciple has the most authority, so you should handle it, Big Brother."

Guang Yun simply gave him a look of disdain...

Just yesterday, they had gone to see the shadow of Subhuti Patriarch to ask how to deal with this rabbit if he refused to follow the rules.

The response they got from Subhuti Patriarch was: "Let the rabbit be, but do not teach him cultivation methods. You may teach him some ordinary spells."

These words were pregnant with meaning, as if Subhuti Patriarch was saying to ignore the rabbit’s antics and not to interfere...

It seemed to show unusual favor to the rabbit, yet Subhuti Patriarch also said not to teach him cultivation methods... This was intriguing, what did it mean?

Was the Patriarch being kind to the rabbit or not?

After all, who comes to Fangcun Mountain if not to learn skills? If one can’t learn skills, what’s the point of cultivating the way?

Guang Yun was troubled by this for the whole night, and just as he lay down, he was woken up by his fellow disciples’ clamor.

It was because, early in the morning, Songguo went to arrange today’s lessons for the rabbit and Sun Wukong, only to find that the Monkey was left, with no sign of the rabbit.

So Songguo ran back to report. This kid was naive, not realizing he should’ve reported discreetly, that it sufficed for their own people to know.

He shouted all the way back, and in no time, all the brothers knew, resulting in Guang Yun being pressured and clueless about how to deal with the rabbit.

As Guang Yun was dealing with his headache, a familiar voice chimed in, "Everybody’s up early, huh!"

Guang Yun and the others looked up to see a rabbit dropping from the sky.

"Rabbit!" everyone exclaimed instinctively.

Songguo jumped out, fuming, and said, "Rabbit, you’re breaking the rules!"

Qin Shou asked in surprise, "How am I breaking the rules?"

Songguo continued to shout, "Without permission, you left the mountain! That’s breaking the rules."

Qin Shou exclaimed, "Without permission?"

"Of course, without permission!" Songguo added.

Qin Shou bared his teeth and said, "Ah... but no one told me that."

Songguo was taken aback; it seemed he really hadn’t mentioned this yesterday... He was so angry that he left early and didn’t say anything.

Hearing this, Guang Yun’s eyes brightened, and in a stern voice, he said, "Songguo, when you escorted them to their residence yesterday, you didn’t go over the rules?"

Songguo scratched his head and said ruefully, "Big Brother... I... I forgot."

Guang Yun’s eyes shone even brighter, struggling to find an excuse to let the rabbit off easy, and here it was presented by Songguo, so he said authoritatively, "The rabbit is innocent due to ignorance, but as a disciple of our sect, you only did half of your job. What should be done about that?"

Songguo, being honest, blushed and felt a twinge in his nose, his voice trembling as if on the verge of tears, "I am willing to accept punishment."

Guang Yun, who had been stealthily eyeing Guang Shan enjoying the scene from the crowd, saw Guang Shan immediately grasp Guang Yun’s unspoken suggestion and call out, "Big Brother, Songguo is still young, it’s natural for him to overlook things. Let’s just forget about it."

Songguo looked gratefully at Guang Shan.

Guang Yun nodded slightly and said, "How could that be? The rules of the sect must not be broken for anyone’s sake. Here’s what we’ll do, Songguo, you’ll be responsible for taking care of this rabbit. When he understands the rules, that’s when it’ll end."

Upon hearing this, Songguo was dumbfounded. Considering the rabbit’s roguish behavior, he immediately cried out, "Big Brother! Please, no! Spank me with a plank instead, I don’t want to take care of this rabbit."

Qin Shou, however, was amused. He had already figured out Songguo’s character along the way.

This was a kid with a fragile heart pretending to be mature, without any craftiness or significant skills. Following him was practically no different from being on his own!

So Qin Shou immediately raised his paw and called out, "Big Brother is wise! Let’s settle on that!"

Guang Yun also ignored Songguo’s protests, nodding and saying, "Alright then, it’s settled."

And so, regardless of Songguo’s teary eyes and his tearful protests, the matter was decided.

Clearly, no one else was inclined to stand in Songguo’s place...

Songguo suddenly heard Guang Yun’s voice by his ear and then looked sympathetically at the blissful rabbit next to him.

On the way, Songguo, gritting his teeth, walked ahead of the rabbit while saying, "Rabbit, let me tell you, this is Fangcun Mountain. You’d better behave."

Qin Shou laughed and said, "Don’t worry, I’m being good. By the way, where’s Sun Wukong?"

"I don’t know, but according to the sect’s rules, he should be carrying water and firewood or learning to read and write right now," Songguo said matter-of-factly.

Qin Shou thought about it; in the original story, Sun Wukong also spent several years doing miscellaneous chores and learning basic knowledge before he learned Magic.

So, Qin Shou stopped thinking about it...

Soon, Songguo brought Qin Shou to a bamboo forest and said, "According to the sect’s rules, for the first three years of entry, your tasks are to chop firewood and read books. For chopping firewood, you’ll be chopping these iron bamboos. You have to chop three hundred iron bamboos every day before you can eat. Got it?"

Qin Shou scratched his head and said, "Uh, this thing looks hard to burn, why chop it?"

Songguo was startled; it was the first time in many years someone had asked that question.

Usually, disciples just did as they were told.

Songguo, being naive himself, couldn’t come up with a convoluted explanation and simply said, "I don’t know, it’s just something that needs to be done. Just start chopping, I’m going back to read. When you’re finished, come and find me."

After saying that, Songguo left a black and rusty chopping knife and walked away.

Qin Shou watched Songguo’s departing figure and then looked at the iron bamboos. He didn’t have any bad intentions.

Earlier, Qin Shou just wanted to stay to learn some skills to increase his strength, find the root cause of his own illness, and solve his health issues from the source.

Now that he had stayed, Qin Shou treasured this learning opportunity, so he picked up the chopping knife, swung his arm around, and approached the iron bamboo.

He lifted the knife and brought it down!

Clang!

Sparks flew in all directions!

Qin Shou was surprised to see that despite his brute strength, which would typically slice through iron like mud even with a dull knife, the iron bamboo was even harder than steel, leaving only a white mark with each blow!

Qin Shou exclaimed in amazement, "My goodness, what kind of bamboo is this? It’s so hard!"

"I refuse to believe this nonsense. If the novice disciples can chop this thing, there’s no way I, the Rabbit, won’t manage. Let’s continue!" Qin Shou went on swinging the chopping knife down.

The sound of clanging was incessant, but to Qin Shou’s frustration, after a hundred chops, the bamboo was only half cut through!

Qin Shou smacked his lips and said, "This is so tough? It’s almost as hard as a magic treasure, isn’t it? Are all newcomers to Fangcun Mountain this fierce? Do they start by chopping this stuff?"

Although a bit puzzled, Qin Shou genuinely wanted to fit in this time and work hard to make something of himself, so he continued to chop without complaint.

Meanwhile, at Fangcun Mountain, beneath the Drum-hearing Tower,

Guang Shan chuckled, lifted a bowl of tea, and gulped it down, saying, "Elder brother, that’s a clever move of yours! Making that rabbit chop iron bamboo, haha... that iron bamboo, although only of yellow level immortal material, in terms of hardness, is top-notch in toughness!

Moreover, there’s a great formation reinforcing each iron bamboo, and their quality is no worse than profound level immortal materials. Not to mention a rabbit,

even ordinary Human Immortals can’t handle iron bamboo.

This rabbit now has something to keep him busy."

Guang Yun sipped his tea proudly and said, "That rabbit doesn’t seem easy to deal with. If idle, who knows what trouble he might cause for Fangcun Mountain. The Patriarch’s instructions were somewhat ambiguous, and it’s not easy for us to decide. Better to give him something to do than let him cause trouble out of boredom."

Guang Shan nodded and said, "Elder brother, you’re wise. But, three hundred iron bamboos a day, isn’t that a bit too much? That rabbit seems strong, but chopping three hundred might take him until midnight, right?"

Guang Yun shook his head and said, "Let him chop. Once he’s exhausted, he’ll settle down. Otherwise, he’ll pester us to teach him Cultivation Techniques. Would you teach him?"

Guang Shan was rendered speechless...

As they talked, Guang Shan subconsciously glanced at the high platform in the distance. From their angle, they could see a silhouette leaping up now and then, appearing to be a monkey.

Guang Shan said with envy, "When you and I joined the sect, we chopped wood for three years, carried water for three years, learned to read and write for three years, and learned how to behave for another three before we were taught Magic. I don’t know what kind of luck this monkey had; without even having a chance to sleep on his first day, he was taught Magic... Sigh."

Guang Yun shook his head and said, "The Patriarch has said before, this monkey is different from the others. You don’t have to be envious. Whether it’s a few years earlier or later, you are not much worse than the others."

Guang Shan nodded and said, "Yeah, that’s true..." then he grinned and added, "Hehe, I just wonder what that rabbit will do when he finds out the monkey has learned Magic."

Guang Yun said, "Let’s keep it from him for now, and even if he does find out, so what? This is Fangcun Mountain, we teach whomever we want!"

Guang Shan nodded along...

Two hours later, just outside the Iron Bamboo Forest.

"Oh my Cao! This is simply not a human’s job!" Qin Shou looked at the ten iron bamboo sticks in his hand and yelled frantically!

Qin Shou was no fool; by now, he was pretty sure that the toughness of these iron bamboos was beyond the ability of an ordinary person to chop!

If you told him that novice disciples were chopping this, Qin Shou wouldn’t believe it even if you killed him!

If it wasn’t the novice disciples chopping, then why was he made to chop? It was clear he was being set up!

Upon this realization, anger stirred in Qin Shou, and he threw down the iron bamboo, ready to find Songguo and argue his case.

But just as Qin Shou was about to leave, he subconsciously glanced at the iron bamboo forest. The lush iron bamboo, swaying gently in the wind, seemed to wave farewell, almost tauntingly so.

Qin Shou’s eyebrows lifted, his eyes lit up, and his mouth curled into a smirk. He chuckled mischievously.
