The woman raised her eyebrows and asked, "What did you just call me?"
Qin Shou was startled, then retorted, "What should I call you? Beautiful lady?"
The woman sat up, her gaze slightly unfriendly.
Qin Shou suggested, "Miss?"
A knife suddenly appeared in the woman’s hand.
Qin Shou, with a crying tone, said, "Then what should I call you? You didn’t even introduce yourself..."
The woman thought for a moment, put away the knife, and said, "Miss is fine..."
Qin Shou was astonished, then looked at the woman with a weird expression on his face.
The woman asked, "Is there a problem?"
Qin Shou asked mischievously, "Aren’t you a bit too old for that?"
Bang!
A slap!
A rabbit flew out of the hall, tumbled three times in the air and then smack, landed on a stone outside the door... The stone cracked with a snap, shattering into pieces.
"Indeed, women are hypocritical creatures, no matter how old they get, you can never talk about their age... even if they’re really old," Qin Shou murmured softly, touching his face.
The next moment, with a bang, something that looked like a deer landed in front of Qin Shou.
The woman said, "Cook this one today. I’ll prepare the food for later, but you need to find a good pot!"
Qin Shou replied miserably, "Miss, how good does the pot have to be? If it’s too good, do you think I can find it?"
"Find the best pot, otherwise you won’t be able to cook my ingredients properly. Heavenly Court is so vast, there must be a good pot somewhere. Just go look for it, I’ll take care of any trouble that falls from the sky," the woman declared imperiously.
Upon hearing this, Qin Shou was overjoyed, but still worriedly said, "What if the Jade Emperor blames us?"
The woman snorted, "Then I’ll just sit in Lingxiao Hall!"
Qin Shou shivered all over, thinking to himself: What’s with this woman? It’s one thing to steal, but now she wants to even take over Lingxiao Hall? Or maybe she’s going to give the Jade Emperor’s people a heads-up, pretend to be the Jade Emperor’s woman and then borrow the Queen Mother’s knife to finish off the Jade Emperor?
Regardless of which it was, Qin Shou knew this woman was too fierce and not someone he could afford to provoke!
But then again, he thought, with such a powerful backer, what did he have to be afraid of? From now on, he could strut around! Strutting was not enough; he was going to strut and jump!
Damn it, I’ll smack anyone who pisses me off!
As Qin Shou daydreamed in his heart, he magically conjured up some water and started processing the deer meat. Only then did he realize that this wasn’t a deer at all, but a fantastical creature!
It was the same kind of creature that Jiang Ziya used to ride... an absolutely rare species!
Seeing this creature, Qin Shou suddenly understood the woman’s meaning. The food she wanted to eat in the future was bound to be no simple matter... No wonder she needed a good pot!
"Having power is good, indeed, granting the freedom to do whatever one wants," Qin Shou couldn’t help but exclaim.
"Do you want to have power?" Just then, the woman’s voice rang out.
Qin Shou’s ears perked up immediately, and he said excitedly, "Yes, I’ve dreamt of it. Will you teach me?"
The woman casually said, "I was just asking."
Qin Shou: "..."
While Qin Shou worked, he shook his head and said, "Miss, since you’re so powerful, can’t you teach me some magic? Look, I’m cooking for you, the only nanny and security staff you have. It would be so embarrassing not to have any skills. It’s fine if it’s just me being embarrassed, since I’m just a rabbit, but it wouldn’t be good for you."
The woman raised her eyebrows slightly and said, "No problem. If you die, I’ll just find another cook."
Qin Shou: "..."
After the meal, the woman waved her hand and shooed the rabbit out of the palace. As soon as the door closed, all went quiet.
Qin Shou sat at the doorstep and called out, "Sis, does this mean my job here is done? If there’s nothing more, I’m leaving, okay?"
However, there was no response from the hall...
Qin Shou smacked his lips and disregarded it, getting up to leave. However, on a whim, he looked back and was stunned!
There was a new line of text on the door of the great hall, appearing to be an incomplete incantation.
The problem was, he had never seen these characters before and didn’t recognize them!
But just after one glance, Qin Shou’s mind echoed as if a grand voice was chanting scriptures. The sound was so loud it made his head buzz. It seemed he understood something in the vague mist of enlightenment, but when he tried to ponder it deeply, it felt like he understood nothing at all...
When Qin Shou looked at the door again, it was empty as if nothing had been there. If he hadn’t just heard those scriptures echoing in his mind, still shaking from the impact, he might have thought he’d been seeing things.
"What is this? Is the woman trying to guide my cultivation, or did I coincidentally see something?" Qin Shou couldn’t be sure, and he dared not ask the woman.
If this were not the woman teaching him, and he had simply seen something by chance, and the woman erased that opportunity after finding out, wouldn’t he be at a loss? But if the woman was teaching him something, he’d better silently learn it well...
Thus, Qin Shou didn’t think further. He shook his head and began to descend the mountain.
On his way, he kept mulling over the incantation and the scriptures that had echoed in his mind. As he thought about them, his Yuan Qi started to rampage within his body, coursing through his limbs, and his body began to twist as if it was going to explode at any second!
That made Qin Shou stop immediately, not daring to think or recite haphazardly anymore...
Qin Shou muttered with lingering fear, "Indeed, this scripture is just part of some cultivation technique, definitely not the whole thing. Recklessly practicing it, I’m afraid I would end up in a terrible state."
With that thought, Qin Shou shook his head and put it out of his mind.
On the way out of the Imperial Garden, Qin Shou didn’t see that timid tree.
Once out of the Imperial Garden, Qin Shou saw Baiwen and Raoteng guarding either side of the gate. Coming towards them, the long-legged beauty Baiying was sitting there, playing with a golden rope in her hand. When she saw the rabbit coming out, Baiying sighed with relief and then immediately turned and walked away.
Seeing this, Qin Shou hurriedly called out, "Long-legged beauty, wait a minute!"
Baiying asked, "What’s up?"
Qin Shou chuckled and said, "Long-legged beauty, do you know where to find a good pot?"
"A good pot?" Baiying was astounded.
When Baiwen and Raoteng heard this, they too were momentarily stunned. Baiwen asked subconsciously, "Rabbit, what do you need a pot for?"
Qin Shou boldly replied, "To cook, of course."
Baiying suggested, "The Kitchen God should have some."
Qin Shou shook his head, "I don’t think so, I’ve already checked at my master’s place before. He rarely uses pots. But I can’t do that, I haven’t reached his realm where I can handle all matter and manipulate fire and water at will. So, I still need to find a good pot."
Baiying shook her head, "Well, I’m not sure then. I’ll ask around for you and let you know if I hear anything."
"Thanks, long-legged beauty," said Qin Shou with gratitude.
Baiying nodded and left.
Once Baiying was gone, Raoteng smacked his lips and said, "Cooking is just cooking, why do you need such a good pot for that?"
Baiwen added, "Exactly."
Qin Shou responded, "Some ingredients won’t cook properly in an ordinary pot."
Baiwen laughed heartily and said, "How could that be? Ordinary pots are enough for refined meats. You’re cooking food, not practicing alchemy..."
Upon hearing those words, Qin Shou’s eyebrows shot up, and his eyes sparkled. He leaped onto Baiwen, grabbed him by the collar, and shouted, "Baiwen, what did you just say?"
Baiwen, startled, stammered, "I... what did I say?"
Qin Shou said, "No, I mean, what did you just say?"
Baiwen repeated, "I said that for refined meats, an ordinary pot is enough."
Qin Shou shook his head, "No, the next sentence!"
Baiwen replied, "You’re making food, not practicing alchemy."
"That’s the one! Haha... Baiwen, you’re a genius! Haha..." Overjoyed, Qin Shou hopped to the ground, flicked his large ears, waved his hands without looking back, and shouted, "I, the venerable rabbit, have things to do. I’m off now, ahaha..."
Amid his laughter, the rabbit had already run far away.
Baiwen said with envy, "I’m envious, coming and going as he pleases, so free and untethered."
Raoteng added, "Yeah, arrives late and leaves early, sigh, but here he comes back again."
"Hahaha... Sorry, I ran the wrong way," laughed the rabbit as he bolted past them again.
Standing on tiptoes, Raoteng followed the rabbit’s retreating figure, then saw him turn down a small path and frowned, "Isn’t that the way to Doushuai Palace?"
Upon hearing this, Baiwen shuddered and said, "I don’t know that rabbit!"
Raoteng quickly joined in, "Neither do I, we don’t know anything..."
...
Doushuai Palace was the palace of Dao Ancestor, one of the Three Pure Ones, Laozi, primarily used for alchemy.
At this moment, outside Doushuai Palace, two child servants were seated on the steps, dozing off.
"Golden Horn, it’s so boring," the child servant in silver clothes muttered.
"Yeah, the grand elder hasn’t come back for many many years, and we can’t leave Doushuai Palace... Sigh," replied Golden Horn, the child servant in golden clothes.
"How about we go herd cows?" suggested Silverhorn.
Golden Horn shook his head, "Forget it, Jinsi General doesn’t want to bother with us anyway. He just sleeps in the cattle shed all day long. We better not disturb him."
With a sigh, Silverhorn said, "We can’t do this and there’s nothing to do that. It’s so boring... The security in the Heavenly Court is too good. If we were in the Lower Realm, at least a thief might come by for us to play with, right?"
Golden Horn nodded, "Yeah, it’s a pity... uh, I think I just saw a rabbit flash by in front of us. Did you see it?"
With a laugh, Silverhorn said, "Stop kidding, where would a rabbit come from in our Doushuai Palace..."
Golden Horn insisted, "But I think I really saw a rabbit."
"Impossible!" Silverhorn declared firmly, "This is the grand elder’s cultivation place. Without him here, who would come here for no reason? Let alone a rabbit..."
"Well, I’m going to squint for a bit, you keep watch," said Golden Horn as he lied down and fell asleep.
Silverhorn pursed his lips, "What’s there to watch? Could it be that someone really dares to steal from Doushuai Palace?"
Taking it lightly, Silverhorn lay down as well and went to sleep.
Once they had fallen asleep, a rabbit stealthily climbed through a window into Doushuai Palace. After a quick look at the two sleeping child servants by the door, it smiled slightly and then proceeded into the palace.
Doushuai Palace had three layers of halls and two side halls. The front was for receiving guests, the middle for dwelling, and the back was the Alchemy Room.
