Chapter 221: Chapter 218: Reunion, Rushing to a Funeral_1

"Violent Dragon, no, Black Dragon," Qin Shou said.

Wu Gang shook his head and replied, "I don’t know; you fell from the sky, and I just picked you up.

What, you’ve had enough life and want to bring a comfort meal to the Violent Dragon?"

Qin Shou looked at Wu Gang with suspicion and said, "You really don’t know?"

Wu Gang shook his head and asked, "Should I know something?"

Qin Shou was speechless for a moment... then shook his head and said, "Forget it, let’s go home."

Qin Shou patted his behind. Since he’d come out from the Kitchen God’s place, there was no need to hurry back. He’d go home and see first.

Just as Qin Shou was about to leave, Wu Gang looked up and said, "Rabbit."

Qin Shou asked, "What now?"

Wu Gang said, "Try to avoid touching the resentment blood of the living spirit from now on..."

"What is the resentment blood of the living spirit?" Qin Shou was utterly bewildered.

Wu Gang explained, "It’s the blood of beings that have a karmic connection with you, that are alive, or have just died, hold a certain cultivation base, and have awakened intelligence. Get it?"

Qin Shou, somewhat understanding, nodded and then asked, "Why?"

Wu Gang said, "The last two times you fainted, I analyzed the cause and effect, and it seems related to that stuff.

Here with me, I could pick you up again, but if you were outside and someone else picked you up, you’d probably have been skinned and simmered into soup by now."

Qin Shou, picturing that scene, shuddered and nodded, "Okay, I won’t touch it anymore.

From now on, I’ll just eat ordinary creatures... um... or those without intelligence!"

Wu Gang nodded and said, "Go on, your fairy is probably getting anxious."

"What do you mean?" Qin Shou was stunned.

Wu Gang said, "It’s been a month."

On hearing this, Qin Shou ran like the wind, disappearing in the blink of an eye...

Wu Gang shook his head, about to stand up, when suddenly, he noticed a Xumi Bag on the ground. Picking it up and opening it, he immediately smiled, "That damn rabbit... still has a conscience!"

Then Wu Gang’s expression turned serious, beads of cold sweat began to form on his forehead, and more and more appeared. His veins popped out all over his body... They stood out like dragons and snakes under his skin, as little sparks of fire moved through his body, finally converging at the place of his heart...

"Damn it..." Wu Gang clutched his chest, cursed through gritted teeth, and then swung his axe, chopping away at the King of Osmanthus Tree until he had made a hole of a suitable size. He immediately squeezed into it, and then the tree rapidly healed over, encasing him within the trunk...

Next, a series of fiery-red glows began to appear inside the tree trunk. The light, like serpents, weaved through the trunk...

Finally, these fire serpents came together as if a set of iron chains bound around the King of Osmanthus Tree, tightening more and more...

A deep voice from Wu Gang came from the tree, "Damn it, Emperor Yan, I’m barely using any strength, and you’re so freaking annoying!

A month has passed, every day there’s one, it’s really freaking enough..."

...

Qin Shou ran towards the Moon Palace like the wind, contemplating as he ran that simply entering would be too uninteresting. It would be better to sneak in and give Chang’e a surprise.

But before he even reached the main entrance, from afar, he saw a familiar figure standing at the gateway!

Under the osmanthus tree, dressed in white, standing expectantly, the petals of osmanthus that had fallen had already buried her ankles...

Seeing this scene, Qin Shou’s heart ached. He knew that the osmanthus fell fast, scattering like rain with every breeze...

But to accumulate so many petals, it must have been a month.

Which meant, Chang’e had been standing there, motionless, for a month!

Qin Shou, his heart squeezed with pity, hurried over and called out, "Silly girl!"

Chang’e’s body trembled, her neck turning stiffly, slowly. As she turned, she muttered, "Slow down... slow down... don’t rush, lest I wake and won’t see Yu’er anymore, it’s got to be a dream... right...?"

Hearing these words, Qin Shou’s eyes reddened. He shouted, "Silly girl, it’s really me!"

Chang’e, having turned her head and seeing the plump rabbit in the distance, couldn’t hold back her tears, biting her thin lips, her smile breaking through...

Qin Shou too smiled, but as he did, his eyes became wet. He looked up and said, "Men should not cry!"

However, the very next moment, tears still fell...

Qin Shou, his voice tinged with a sob, said, "Men should be as tough as tofu, not cry if not white... wa... Girl, I’ve missed you to death!"

Having said that, Qin Shou goofily threw himself forward.

Chang’e squatted down, her body trembling so much she nearly fell over, clearly from standing too long; her body had stiffened. Fortunately, she had an Immortal’s constitution and instantly recovered.

Bending over, she opened her arms, and a plump rabbit flew straight into Chang’e’s embrace, accurately diving into the canyon.

Chang’e happily hugged Qin Shou tightly...

Without any superfluous words, they simply enjoyed the tranquil reunion...

In that moment, Qin Shou could feel Chang’e’s worrisome heart relax, the long-held tension slowly easing...

After a while, Qin Shou looked up as Chang’e lowered her head, their eyes met, and they both said in unison, "Yu’er, you’ve lost weight..."

"Pfft..." Both of them laughed at the same time.

Chang’e, with a hint of playfulness, pinched Qin Shou’s cheek and said, "Your face has gotten all thin."

Qin Shou, in turn, pressed down on his mount and said, "The Himalayas are almost turning into the scenic beauty of Guilin."

Instantly, Chang’e’s face turned red, and she was about to throw the rabbit out, but she couldn’t bear to and just gave him a glare, saying, "No mischief!"

Qin Shou grinned and replied, "Okay, no mischief then... but you’re not allowed to cry anymore."

Chang’e nodded slightly and said, "Mm... No more crying. It’s good you’re back. Let’s go eat, I’m starving."

"Right, let’s eat. I’m starving too. I brought you lots of delicious food! All from Spirit Beasts!" Qin Shou exclaimed.

"Really? Where did you get them?" Chang’e asked.

Qin Shou said with a smile, "My master gave them to me."

"Which master? Wenqu Star Monarch or Master Luban?" Chang’e inquired.

Qin Shou replied, "Neither, it’s my new master, the Kitchen God."

Chang’e exclaimed in surprise, "Wow... does that mean we’ll have tons of delicious food from now on?"

"Absolutely! My master is very generous; he lets us take Spirit Beasts as we please!" Qin Shou said proudly.

Chang’e exclaimed again, "Wow... that’s too wonderful!"

Qin Shou discovered that Chang’e seemed to be a foodie too... but he liked foodies!

They entered the courtyard, and Chang’e, like a diligent little wife welcoming her husband back from the outside world, quickly grabbed a cloth to start wiping the table...

Seeing the thick layer of dust on the table, Qin Shou knew that Chang’e probably hadn’t eaten much in a month, though immortals can sustain themselves by absorbing the Yuan Qi of heaven and earth, going without food or drink.

Starving for a month wouldn’t be an issue for immortals, but here on the Moon, where the Yuan Qi was too sparse, it was different. Their immortal bodies couldn’t absorb much Qi, so eating became very important.

Even an iron man couldn’t handle starving for a month!

Qin Shou hurried over and snatched the cloth, saying, "This is a pet’s job. What are you, silly girl, meddling in? Go sit down, drink some tea, read a book..."

Then, without waiting for Chang’e’s reaction, Qin Shou quickly started wiping the table.

In reality, Qin Shou could have simply used a thought to turn the dust into various elements and be done with it.

But he still enjoyed this cozy life that belonged to just the two of them...

After cleaning the tables and chairs, he set up candles, and placed dishes like Danghu Bird cooked in Dong’an Chicken style, braised Dangkang ribs, sweet and sour Chilu fish, chopped hot pepper Henggong fish head, and so on.

Dish after dish was served, and the table settings arranged... suddenly, he felt something was missing, so he ran to the osmanthus tree to pick some blossoms.

Just then, a somber suona melody echoed from outside the Moon Palace, along with the mournful music of gongs and drums. Over the wall, one could see large amounts of spirit money being thrown into the sky, then drifting down like snowflakes... it was evident that whoever was mourning was spending generously.

At that moment, Qin Shou was stunned: "A funeral? There’s only our household on the Moon, plus one old bachelor; where did these outsiders come from?"

Right then, there was a knock at the gate.

Upon hearing it, Chang’e hurried to open the door. As soon as the door swung open, a man at the doorstep began wailing, "Oh... dear Brother Rabbit, your death is such a tragedy... Tianpeng Marshal is so sorry for failing you! The Marshal should have been by your side day and night, protecting you...

Had your brother been there, you wouldn’t have ended up eaten by a little black dirt ball...

Alas, your brother was leading the navy in training exercises and incidentally suppressed a hoard of demons and devils. Brother was so imposing then, leading a million heavenly soldiers across the rivers, with warships numbering in the thousands. Wherever we passed, immortals stepped aside, and demons bowed in submission...

Dear Brother Rabbit... may you rest in peace...

I know that Fairy Chang’e was the one you couldn’t let go of in your life. Rest assured, with your departure, Tianpeng Marshal will take care of her for you!

If Fairy Chang’e loses even an ounce or two of weight, that’s on your brother for letting you down!"

Chang’e could never have anticipated that opening the door would usher in such a spectacle!

Looking behind Tianpeng, there was indeed a crowd dressed in mourning attire, with a full ensemble of musicians, followed by a large coffin, and rows of wreaths behind it... clearly, they had come to help bury Brother Rabbit!

Chang’e was displeased; Qin Shou wasn’t dead, and yet here this fellow was, coming for the wake, isn’t this cursing someone to die?

Though Chang’e understood Tianpeng’s intentions, considering his dubious past, her expression grew colder and more distant. But with polite civility, she slightly bowed and said, "Marshal Tianpeng, what is this about..."

As Tianpeng entered, his eyes never left Chang’e. Hearing her question, he immediately replied, "Coming for mourning... Brother Rabbit died a terrible death, eaten by a little mud eel from the Lower Realm. But you needn’t worry, immortal. Once I gather my troops, I’ll head to the Lower Realm and slay a few hundred eels to accompany Brother Rabbit in burial, granting him some peace. Immortal, don’t be too sad: you have me."

Upon hearing this, Qin Shou cursed in his heart, "Damn it, is that what you call giving me peace? You just want to make sure I’m not lonely on the Road to the Netherworld by sending a bunch of Black Dragons to see me off!"

Chang’e urged, "Marshal Tianpeng, you’re mistaken..."

"Mistaken?" Tianpeng was puzzled, and glanced at the courtyard. He saw red candles lit and plenty of fine dishes laid out...
