Rabbit Must Die
Chapter 119: Old Swindler VS Young Swindler_1

Chapter 119: Chapter 119: Old Swindler VS Young Swindler_1

As he walked along, Qin Shou saw that the prices of items on this street were not low, especially the books, with each casually priced at no less than ten spirit crystals! Prepared delicacies, like braised phoenix-tail duck and sweet and sour lark claws, were equally expensive. Gazing at those foods, Qin Shou’s mouth began to water.

There was no helping it. Although his diet had recently improved a bit, the lack of oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, and other condiments, as well as the monotony of his cooking methods, doomed the rabbit to an ever-growing appetite. As a typical foodie from Earth, eating and eating well had become an absolute obsession! As a person from Huaxia, eating poorly? That was simply unconscionable!

Spirit crystals might be the most basic unit of currency, but for Qin Shou, a poor man, ten spirit crystals were still astronomically out of reach.

"Money... oh money..." Qin Shou stroked his chin, pondering how to make money, when he glimpsed an old man sitting in the depths of a small alley. The old man, donned in a Daoist robe, bore an air of Immortal elegance. Before him lay a table covered with a yellow cloth, inscribed with the words: "I divine Heaven and Earth, I predict the lives of all! A tenfold refund if the prediction fails!"

Qin Shou was curious. Did the Immortal Realm also have fortune-tellers? Wouldn’t all Immortals be capable of making predictions with a simple wiggle of their fingers? Moreover, instead of setting up on a main street, why would someone sneak into an alley to practice their crafts? Was it because money was too easy to earn, or was he not afraid of starving to death? Operating a street stall here meant either the person was audaciously confident or foolish, or perhaps they truly had genuine skills. For a moment, Qin Shou was intrigued.

Just then, a scholar crept over, glancing around to make sure no one was following him before briskly darting into the alley. With a sly grin, he rushed over and sat down at the table, chuckling, "Immortal, help me with another divination, will you?"

But the Immortal remained indifferent, as if his spirit was wandering beyond the mundane world, detached from earthly concerns.

Hastily, the scholar took out a pouch from his bosom and placed it on the table.

The previously ethereal Immortal instantly opened his eyes, snatched the money bag, and chuckled slyly, "Ah, isn’t this Mr. Wen, the talented scholar? What would you like to divine today?"

Qin Shou was speechless at the sight, truly, money makes the world go round... Even Immortals were no exception.

"Immortal, the questions you predicted last time were correct. I prepared accordingly, scored high on the exam, and was commended publicly by my teacher. I might even get to study at the Wenchang Palace in the future... However, the quarterly exams are coming up, so, you see..." Mr. Wen chuckled.

Upon hearing this, Qin Shou immediately understood: this guy had come to get the exam questions predicted! In that moment, Qin Shou too felt a tinge of envy for the people of this world. If only Earth had such masters, he might have been able to study at Tsinghua and Peking University himself.

Lost in thought, Qin Shou watched as the Immortal laughed and took out a piece of paper from beneath the table to hand over to Mr. Wen, saying, "I had foreseen that you would come asking this question and had it prepared in advance. Take it."

Mr. Wen, overjoyed, repeatedly expressed his gratitude, "Thank you, Immortal! Thank you!"

"Off you go," the fortune-teller gestured dismissively, and Mr. Wen hurried off.

Once the man had left, the fortune-teller no longer maintained the appearance of an ethereal Immortal but instead took out the money pouch and emptied it onto the table, swiftly covering it with red spirit crystals!

Qin Shou roughly estimated that there were about thirty crystals on the table! Thirty crystals for one piece of paper, what a huge profit!

The fortune-teller couldn’t help but burst into a loud laughter, saying, "Haha... I’m rich! This money is so easy to make... Unfortunately, I have to change locations now. Last time I got lucky with the questions, but this time it might not be so. Time to leave quickly..."

In the midst of speaking, the fortune-teller had already started packing up his things.

Upon hearing this, Qin Shou’s eyebrows raised in surprise. He had thought this man was a master, but it turns out he was just a scam artist! And such a bold one, daring to come to Shushan to con people. He must not know what death feels like!

Qin Shou flicked his big ears and strode in with his head held high, shouting, "Fortune-teller!"

The fortune-teller turned his head in surprise, a smile on his face as if nothing had happened, and said, "Little rabbit, you want your fortune told too? My services aren’t cheap, you know. It starts at a hundred Spirit Crystals, not one less."

Qin Shou was stunned, expecting the guy to panic, but he remained cool and calm from beginning to end, as if nothing was wrong. Qin Shou knew he had encountered someone with a thick face, but this was Shushan, and one such nuisance was enough. Another one was simply stealing business!

In an instant, Qin Shou felt a surge of Righteous Qi rise within him, and he transformed into someone who couldn’t stand to leave things untidy!

You want to play? I’ll play along!

Qin Shou grinned, his eyebrows arching in pride as he swaggered forward with chest puffed out, striding with an official’s gait to face the old man with a look of disdain, as though a superior looking down on an inferior, and said casually, "Fortune-teller, only a hundred Spirit Crystals? You have the nerve to call that expensive? I spend more than that on a single meal!"

At these words, the fortune-teller was visibly taken aback. He had thought he was dealing with a mere pet and, not wanting to waste time, aimed to scare him off with a high price. He hadn’t expected this fat rabbit to be different from ordinary rabbits, a rich rabbit! His eyes darted about as he thought to himself: The last big score before I take off.

So, the fortune-teller settled himself down and said indifferently, "Immortal friend, a hundred Spirit Crystals is merely my appearance fee. Depending on the value of what’s divined, there will be additional charges. It’s not cheap. Are you sure you want to go through with this?"

Upon hearing this, Qin Shou nearly rolled his eyes to outer space. This old man really knew how to bluff! Had it not been for the sight of the previous person handing over ten Spirit Crystals, Qin Shou might have actually believed his nonsense based on the old man’s expression and demeanor alone!

But now that he knew the old man was just a scammer, Qin Shou didn’t hold back. It was just about scamming, right? Who was afraid of whom?

Therefore, Qin Shou jumped onto the stool, not bothering to sit, but instead stepped onto the table with his short legs, leaned forward in the manner of a boss, and said, "Fortune-teller, you have no idea who I roll with! Here on Shushan, there’s nothing I can’t afford! I live by one principle: I don’t necessarily want the best, just the most expensive! But don’t you dare scam me, otherwise with one shout from me, you definitely won’t be able to leave Shushan alive!"

The fortune-teller, looking at the bragging rabbit in front of him, felt a bit unsure of what to make of the rabbit’s background, so he asked, "Rabbit friend, what may I call you?"

Qin Shou waved his paw arrogantly and said, "How can I allow my esteemed name to be carelessly spread? Moreover, aren’t you the fortune-teller? Just divine my name, then you’ll know. Besides, you’ve come to our Shushan without finding out who’s in charge here?"
