Chapter 470: Chapter 469: The Psychology of Being Bitten by a Snake Once
Xing Ling had slept fitfully through the morning.
By the time she descended the stairs, Xing Tian was at home, working on his business affairs at the long table in the hall, tapping away at his keyboard.
"Big brother, don’t you have to go to the company today?"
"No need, it’s time to eat," Xing Tian said to the servant beside him.
Only Xing Ling and Xing Tian were eating at the table.
After a while, Xing Tian asked, "I’m planning to go to the hospital later. I can’t just ignore the fact that Ye Sihan had an accident and is in the hospital."
Xing Ling could understand.
Ye Sihan was not only the biological father of the quadruplets but also had business cooperation with the Xing Family. It was reasonable and appropriate for him to go.
But why wait until I got up to bring this up?
"Why didn’t you go in the morning?" As soon as Xing Ling had spoken, she was met with her elder brother’s stern glance.
"I was busy." The implication was that he had just finished his work.
"Oh." Xing Ling had nothing to say.
"You’ll come with me later," Xing Tian added.
Xing Ling grumbled internally, I knew that’s what you were thinking! Although the eldest brother is like a father, he shouldn’t force me to do things against my will!
She was about to refuse outright.
"He got hurt because of you; you should buy something and visit him," he said.
Xing Ling really wanted to say that she had already kept him company for half the night and had only returned that morning.
Doesn’t that count?
But her big brother’s reasoning was sound. How could she refuse?
She kept silent, swallowing her objections.
Xing Ling followed Xing Tian to the hospital.
Upon entering, she immediately felt Ye Sihan’s gaze on her.
It was a stare so intense, as though she were the only one who had entered the room.
She felt incredibly uncomfortable!
If Xing Tian weren’t there, she would have fled at once!
"How are you feeling?" Xing Tian inquired.
"No big deal, just need to rest for a while now." Ye Sihan’s eyes only briefly shifted away before settling back on Xing Ling.
"When did you get here?" Xing Tian asked.
"Yesterday," Ye Sihan responded deliberately, so as not to let Xing Ling sense something was off. "I had originally decided to return to Kyoto tomorrow, but it seems I’ll have to delay that now."
While they spoke, Xing Ling thought back to what she knew from last night.
Ye Sihan was in poor health; she remembered how he had coughed up blood at the airport three years ago.
She couldn’t help but scrutinize Ye Sihan’s face closely.
It seemed his figure was thinner than before.
"Did the doctor say when you can be discharged?" Xing Tian asked.
"About a week. The injury was almost critical. Even after I’m discharged, I can’t take a plane and leave; I’ll need to stay around here for some time," Ye Sihan said.
"Not even a private jet?" Xing Ling asked before anyone else could.
She had been on Ye Sihan’s private jet and was familiar with its comforts.
"You remember?" There was a ripple in Ye Sihan’s eyes as he looked at her.
Xing Ling frowned slightly and lowered her gaze without saying a word.
She regretted opening her mouth!
"Taking a private jet still involves a long journey, and it’s a burden on a body that has not fully recovered. However, if you want me to leave, I will go as soon as I’m discharged. I should be able to endure it," Ye Sihan said.
Xing Ling pursed her lips.
What did he mean by that? Since when was he so compliant? Leaving just because she asked him to, without regard for his own health?
"Let’s do this; the Xing Family’s mansion is spacious. A week from now, you can stay at my place. It just so happens that the quadruplets haven’t seen you in a long time. Last night, they even mentioned you, saying they missed their dad," Xing Tian suggested.
"Is that alright?" Ye Sihan looked toward Xing Ling, as if waiting to read her response.
Xing Ling turned her face away, acting as if it didn’t concern her.
Inside, she was already quite upset.
Why does he need to consult me? Does he think if I say no, he’ll obediently head back to Kyoto?
"Aling, what do you think?" Xing Tian asked.
Xing Ling thought she could pretend not to hear and that would be fine, but she didn’t expect her elder brother to actually ask her.
With Ye Sihan’s financial resources, what kind of nursing home wouldn’t be good enough for him?
Or just stay in a hotel here and find a team to take care of him—it wouldn’t be a problem at all.
But if she really said that, how would the quadruplets think of her, and how would they view the Xing brothers?
Their biological father, having suffered such serious injuries, to stay in a hotel?
"Aling?" Xing Tian called her again.
Only then did Xing Ling reply, "Elder brother, you decide."
"Then it’s settled."
After leaving the hospital, in the car, Xing Tian looked at Xing Ling’s silent face and asked, "Do you have any thoughts?"
"What?" After understanding what he was asking, she said, "No."
"Just think of him as the quadruplets’ father—that’s not too difficult, right? Three years have passed, what do you feel when you see him now? Hatred?" Xing Tian’s question was piercing.
Xing Ling looked out the car window.
Was it hatred? It felt more like... panic, a desire to avoid. Was that a form of hatred?
She didn’t know...
The day before Ye Sihan was to be discharged, at the dinner table, Xing Ling told the whole family, "I have to shoot a charity promotional video tomorrow."
"Mom, Dad is coming home tomorrow," Junjun reminded her.
"So sudden."
"Didn’t mom say she was on vacation now?"
"If mom doesn’t go..."
"It’s only for about ten days, not long, that’s why I agreed," Xing Ling said.
She had already told the quadruplets about Ye Sihan’s injury and hospitalization, and they had visited their father every day.
Xing Ling had personally taken them to the hospital too because, in front of the kids, she still had to put on a show.
Making things too tense wouldn’t make the children feel good.
Now, she knew she was avoiding, not wanting to be under the same roof as Ye Sihan, but she inevitably felt guilty when faced with the disappointed eyes of the quadruplets.
"Second uncle, don’t let mom go to work!" Junjun tugged at Xing Yanjie’s clothes.
The others, with six eyes, all looked towards their eldest uncle.
Xing Tian’s expression wasn’t too good as he glanced at Xing Ling, hinting that she was being too impulsive.
Xing Ling hung her head, not speaking.
Leaving on the very next day of Ye Sihan’s arrival, her two brothers must have seen through her ’deliberate’ actions.
After dinner, Xing Ling was called into the study.
"Does avoidance work?" Xing Tian asked.
"I’m not familiar with him," Xing Ling stubbornly replied.
"You’re not familiar, but you could have four children?" Xing Yanjie said.
"How is that the same?" Xing Ling said.
"He’ll stay at home for at most a week, and you can’t endure that?" Xing Yanjie said.
"Elder brother, second brother, don’t bother persuading me, I don’t want to see Ye Sihan," Xing Ling said and then turned around and left.
"It’s been three years, still haven’t moved on?" Xing Yanjie asked.
"Moving on means I have to accept him? It’s the psychology of someone bitten by a snake once. It’s Ye Sihan who brought it upon himself," Xing Tian would advise Xing Ling but would not force her.
Neither the persuasion of her two brothers nor the pestering of the quadruplets worked.
Xing Ling always expressed difficulty, as the work she had arranged couldn’t be postponed.
The quadruplets went to sleep low in spirits, and Xing Ling, back in her room lying on the bed, sighed even more.
Was she really doing something wrong?
But if Ye Sihan stayed at the Xing Family, with the quadruplets at school and her two brothers out working, wouldn’t it just be her and Ye Sihan alone?
She didn’t want that!
The next morning, Xing Ling got ready to have breakfast with the quadruplets before heading to work.
Having packed her luggage, the maid behind her helped drag the suitcase downstairs.
Upon reaching the bottom of the stairs, Xing Ling’s smile froze on her face as she stared, dumbfounded, at the man surrounded by the quadruplets in the hallway.
