Chapter 448: Chapter 447: Are You Planning to Run Away from Home?
Ye Sihan stood at the doorway, watching her leave, and did not forcefully follow her.
Xing Ling wandered around outside, soulless and distraught, as if she had lost her way home.
In the end, she sat on the steps by the street side, like a stray child.
In a distant corner, there stood Ye Sihan, an existence that seemed to shun the light, only able to spy like this.
What was her world like?
How could he enter her world?
Seeing Xing Ling like this, Ye Sihan felt a pain that twisted his heart, an agony too great to bear.
The ringtone of Xing Ling’s phone started, and she glanced at it and answered, "Dr. Meng."
"Are you outside?" Meng Jilin heard the sound of cars in the background.
"Feeling down," Xing Ling said. "Sitting by the roadside alone!"
"What happened?" Meng Jilin asked, worried.
"It’s just... very complicated."
"Then should I come to pick you up? I’m rather free today."
"Pick me up to go where? It seems there’s nowhere to go." Xing Ling said without much interest. "Don’t feel like staying outside for long either."
"How about... coming to my place? Don’t overthink it, I just bought quite a lot of groceries, and since you’re coming over, I can cook. You can taste my cooking?"
"Is that okay?" Xing Ling hesitated.
"What’s not okay about it? Aren’t we friends? You’re feeling down right now, and as a doctor, I can also offer some counsel."
"Alright. I’ll take a taxi over." Xing Ling got up after hanging up the phone. She walked up to the car, waited for the driver to lower the window, and said, "I’m going somewhere else, you can go back first!"
"Ah? Is that okay? Wherever Mrs. Ye wants to go, I’ll take you there," the driver said.
"No need, I don’t like you following me," Xing Ling said bluntly.
She turned her head and went to hail a cab.
The driver got out of the car and watched with wide eyes as the taxi drove away with Xing Ling.
Looking back, he saw Ye Sihan standing far away on the roadside.
Dark, like a terrifying figure from Hell.
The taxi had not gone far when Xing Ling’s phone in her hand rang again.
She glanced at it, hesitating.
The driver must have told Ye Sihan, and he called her immediately.
Did he know that this really made her uncomfortable, that she really resented it?
Yet she still answered, "I’m going to see a friend. Can you not surveil me?"
"I don’t feel safe about you."
"Aside from you, everyone else is very safe. Ye Sihan, I’m begging you, stop controlling me!" Xing Ling hung up.
Ye Sihan, with a chest heaving with rage and a volatile temper,
commanded his bodyguards with a sinister face, "What are you waiting for? Bring her back!"
"Yes!" The bodyguard got into the car and hurried after the taxi.
Ye Sihan stood by the roadside, his hand clutching his phone, the veins bulging abnormally, the phone nearly crushed in his grip.
About a minute later, he made a call from his phone, extremely repressed, "Don’t bother bringing her back."
Xing Ling’s taxi arrived at the villa entrance, and as soon as she got out, she saw Meng Jilin waiting for her at the doorway.
Just as she walked forward, she heard the sound of a cat meowing.
Looking down, Niannian was circling around her.
After a few encounters, Niannian had grown quite close to her, no longer as wary as the first time.
Seeing such a soft pet, a smile spread across Xing Ling’s face, and she squatted down to pick it up.
"Niannian, are you doing well?"
"I told it you were coming, and it’s very happy," Meng Jilin said, approaching.
"How would it understand? And how do you know it’s happy?"
"Don’t you know? Pets understand what their owners say. As for being happy, it ate more cat food than usual, isn’t that a sign of happiness?" Meng Jilin invited, "Please come in, the dishes are all prepared, now we just need to cook them."
After entering the house, Meng Jilin asked her to sit on the couch and play with Niannian, while he went to the kitchen to start cooking.
Xing Ling always marveled at the cleanliness of the room every time she came in.
"I need to use your bathroom," Xing Ling said to the kitchen.
"Go to the left," Meng Jilin said from inside.
Xing Ling entered the bathroom, which was still spotless, with the scent of freshener floating in the air.
While washing her hands, and drying them with a paper towel, she noticed the towels hanging at the side.
Three towels, arranged identically, the same length, as if they had been copied and pasted.
It was as if someone had an obsession with cleanliness and an compulsive disorder.
Is this a common ailment among doctors?
Walking out of the bathroom, she saw Niannian jumping onto a decorative shelf, inadvertently knocking over a snuff bottle nearby.
The snuff bottle fell to the ground with a snap.
Shattering upon impact.
Then a sharp scalpel was revealed within it.
Xing Ling stood there stunned, picking up the scalpel.
The scar on it was as long as her index finger, the blade only a bit longer than a brow razor, giving off a chilling gleam, somewhat sinister.
What kind of knife was this? A surgical knife?
Why would Meng Jilin keep a surgical knife inside a snuff bottle?
"What was that noise? Did Niannian knock something over again?" Meng Jilin came out of the kitchen, approached Xing Ling, and when he saw the knife in her hand, his expression clearly froze for a moment before returning to normal. He took the knife, "Be careful, it’s very sharp. Don’t cut yourself."
"Why do you keep a surgical knife in a snuff bottle?" Xing Ling asked, puzzled.
"Because it’s small, I was afraid I’d have a hard time finding it if I put it somewhere else. It would be too noticeable and could hurt Niannian, so I just slipped it into the snuff bottle," Meng Jilin explained.
"I see," Xing Ling said, no more questions asked.
Meng Jilin cleaned up the pieces of the broken snuff bottle from the floor, saying, "It’ll be ready in five minutes."
"Mm," she replied.
Xing Ling watched as Meng Jilin placed the surgical knife in the drawer of the coffee table and then went back into the kitchen.
Seated on the couch with Niannian in her arms, Xing Ling cautiously glanced towards the kitchen, pulled open the drawer, and used her phone to snap a photo of the knife.
Hidden behind the kitchen door, Meng Jilin clearly saw everything Xing Ling did.
After she finished, Xing Ling thought about leaving directly.
But if she just walked out, Meng Jilin would definitely find it strange.
"It’s ready," Meng Jilin said as he brought out the dishes.
Xing Ling stood up, "I’ll help you."
"Then you dish out the rice."
Once everything was on the table, the two sat down to eat.
Meng Jilin asked, "How is it?"
"Better than what my second brother makes," Xing Ling nodded and said.
"Then eat more, I can’t finish it by myself."
"I have a small appetite; I can’t eat that much. But seeing as it’s so tasty, I’ll try my best," Xing Ling smiled.
"Did Ye Sihan know you were coming here?" Meng Jilin asked.
"He didn’t know. I had an argument with him and ran out of the house. Just then, you called me," Xing Ling said. "I don’t want to go back today."
"Are you thinking of running away from home?" Meng Jilin laughed.
"Anyway, I can stay at my second brother’s house."
"He allowed that?"
"I stayed over a few days ago, what can he do to me?" said Xing Ling.
"Take care of yourself," Meng Jilin said. "If you’re really unhappy, stay away from him."
Just as Xing Ling was about to nod, she started feeling dizzy, "Why do I feel dizzy?"
"Are you not feeling well?"
"I don’t know..." Xing Ling said, her eyes widening as she struggled to stay conscious. When her gaze met Meng Jilin’s, she was taken aback and quickly stood up, "You..."
Before she could finish her sentence, she collapsed.
