Chapter 382: Chapter 382: Tonight, I’ll Pick Up Your Tab

Xing Yanjie tucked her in, then turned to the maid beside him and said, "Take good care of her. If her condition worsens, I won’t let you off the hook."

"Yes," the two maids bowed their heads.

As soon as Xing Yanjie left, Xing Ling felt her mind become much clearer.

However, it seemed that she hadn’t seen Ye Sihan since she woke up this morning.

Did he know she was sick?

Why hadn’t he come to see her?

It was muddled thinking, but she still found herself longing for that man.

Unable to help herself, Xing Ling asked the maid, "Where is Ye Sihan?"

"Mr. Ye has gone to the office."

"..." Xing Ling felt it was redundant to ask.

She wasn’t a sentimentalist. Even if Ye Sihan were here, her sickness wouldn’t improve – she’d still have to recover gradually through IV drips.

Yet, she couldn’t shake a persistent feeling of dejection.

She hoped Ye Sihan would stay with her. Didn’t he realize how fragile a person could be when they were sick...

Xing Ling fell asleep with little energy.

Shortly after she drifted off, the door to her room was pushed open, and Ye Sihan walked in.

The maid tactfully took it upon herself to leave the room.

Ye Sihan approached the bedside and looked down at the weak figure on the bed.

Because of her illness, her breathing was heavy, her face was sickly pale, the corners of her closed eyes moist, even her long eyelashes were wet.

She appeared fragile and pitiable.

Xing Ling didn’t know how long she had slept when she was startled awake and immediately checked the IV bottle.

It was clear how much she feared air getting into her veins.

Her elder brother said that air in the veins could be fatal.

Latter, her second brother told her that the elder was just scaring her.

But she could never shake the fear.

Seeing there was still a third left, she breathed a sigh of relief.

"The second bottle," a deep voice stated evenly.

Xing Ling turned her head in a daze and saw the man sitting on the sofa.

How was he here? Wasn’t he supposed to be at the office?

"When... when did you come?"

"Not long ago," Ye Sihan said.

"Oh." Xing Ling’s gaze flitted about, unsure where to look. "Aren’t you busy today?"

"Hmm," Ye Sihan was looking at the documents in his hand.

"When this bottle is finished, will there be another one?"

"No more."

"Are you going to the office later today?" Xing Ling asked again.

"It depends."

Xing Ling felt she had exhausted all topics of conversation and listlessly bit her lip.

They had spoken so much, but Ye Sihan had only responded when prompted, making her head spin with confusion.

Didn’t this man have anything to say to her?

It was exasperating.

She might as well try to talk the day to death to satisfy him!

Not long after she closed her eyes, she felt the edge of the bed sink, "Open your mouth."

Xing Ling opened her eyes to find Ye Sihan, who had approached her, holding a thermometer, and asked, "Don’t you have an electronic one?"

"The electronic ones are inaccurate."

Xing Ling then opened her mouth to take the thermometer.

Ye Sihan didn’t leave. He watched her.

Xing Ling couldn’t speak, her eyes roving around animatedly.

She wondered why Ye Sihan was staring at her the whole time?

It made her feel somewhat embarrassed.

Her face even began to feel a trace of heat.

Sheesh, could the thermometer be accurate in this situation?

A few minutes later, Xing Ling noticed the empty IV bottle and couldn’t help but touch Ye Sihan, signaling him to call the doctor quickly to remove it.

Ye Sihan glanced at it and remained motionless, finding Xing Ling’s anxious demeanor amusing.

Xing Ling glared at him with her eyes, filled with impatience.

With no doctor around and considering the time it would take for one to get here, how could they arrive in time?

As she watched the last drop fall from the bottle and started to sit up in urgency, her shoulder was pressed down.

"Come in," Ye Sihan said with a deep voice.

The doctor who had been waiting outside the door came in and removed the needle from Xing Ling’s hand.

Pressing down with a cotton swab.

The doctor took the thermometer out of her mouth, and Xing Ling glared at Ye Sihan, "You did that on purpose, didn’t you?"

"Don’t waste it," Ye Sihan said.

The corner of Xing Ling’s mouth twitched, I don’t believe you for a second.

"Your temperature has dropped, but it’s still over 37 degrees. Rest up and drink plenty of water," the doctor instructed before leaving.

As Ye Sihan stood up, a weight fell on his hand; turning back, he saw Xing Ling’s pitiful eyes.

"Where are you going?"

Ye Sihan eyed her hand; the time wasn’t up yet. The cotton swab fell onto the bedsheet, and a bead of blood emerged.

He lifted his hand and pressed the swab back onto her hand.

Xing Ling felt a little embarrassed inside, and asked shyly, "I’m hungry, do you have anything to eat?"

"What do you want to eat?"

"Lots, fish, shrimp, beef, braised chicken wings..."

Before she could finish, there was a knock at the door.

"Come in," Ye Sihan said in a deep voice.

The maid entered the bedroom, carrying a bowl of bland liquid food.

"Leave it," Ye Sihan instructed.

The maid set the bowl on the bedside table and left with a bow.

"What’s this? Is this for me? I’m sick you know; can’t you get me something nicer?" Xing Ling looked at it with no appetite.

Ye Sihan ignored her, and when nearly enough time had passed, he removed the swab and stood up to leave.

"Feed me," Xing Ling cooed.

Ye Sihan hesitated, looking at her as if he couldn’t believe she would make such a request.

He certainly had never fed anyone like this before.

Xing Ling wondered, is my request too much?

Expecting such a high-profile figure to feed her? She’s not his servant after all.

She was about to say never mind.

But Ye Sihan sat back down next to the bed and started to feed her personally.

Xing Ling’s face broke into a smile, feeling even the bland food tasted wonderful.

Originally without much appetite, she ended up cleaning out the bowl.

"I want some water," Xing Ling made another request.

Ye Sihan glanced at her.

"What? I’m the patient here," Xing Ling declared confidently.

Ye Sihan said nothing and went to pour her water.

This time Xing Ling didn’t dare ask him to feed her, knowing when to stop.

She didn’t dare to provoke Ye Sihan, lest he simply walk away.

After drinking water, Xing Ling leaned back against the pillow, soft and relaxed. Seeing Ye Sihan leave, she didn’t call after him.

She felt too embarrassed to keep him there.

Besides, her body was weak, and after such a long ordeal, she was out of energy and closed her eyes.

When Ye Sihan returned, she was asleep again.

Obviously, she couldn’t go to the set being sick; Xing Ling’s scenes could only be delayed.

Xing Ling thought, if only this illness could last a little longer.

Because once her filming was done, she would have to leave.

Previously, she was anxious to go, fearing that Ye Sihan would detain her in Kyoto.

Now she didn’t want to leave.

But that wasn’t possible.

Once her health was restored, Xing Ling headed back to the set.

She couldn’t keep everyone in Kyoto just for her; it’s not right to be so selfish.

On the evening of the day she finished shooting, the director hosted a farewell dinner.

Aside from the crew, there were leaders from the Ministry of Land and Resources.

Nobody there had the clout to invite Ye Sihan.

Xing Ling initially thought about calling Ye Sihan, but then decided against it.

With so many people there, even if Ye Sihan came, what could the two of them do? They would all be like third wheels!

Everyone was pretty happy, and Xing Ling didn’t want to dampen the mood. And with her own worries, she didn’t refuse anyone who offered a toast.

Which resulted in her feeling a bit dizzy.

She took the opportunity to run to the restroom to clear her head.

As she exited the restroom, a man approached her. When he saw Xing Ling’s face, his eyes instantly lit up, and he stopped her.

"Beautiful lady, are you here alone? How about I treat you to a drink? I’ll cover your expenses tonight," the man offered generously, his eyes fixed on Xing Ling.
