Chapter 345: Can You Stay Away from Me?
Chapter 345: Chapter 345: Can You Stay Away from Me?
"Wait a minute." Xing Ling stopped in front of him and looked up at him, once again marveling at his height. "Are you actually six-foot-three?"
Ye Sihan looked down at her with deep, inscrutable black eyes, saying nothing.
"If you truly pity Wu Qianqian, you could have the director give her a role, or save the leading role in the next film for her," Xing Ling suggested. "But to have me just get lost like that, isn’t that too much? Mr. Ye, that’s not the right way to show ’a knight’s indignation on behalf of his lady.’
"What if I don’t agree?" Ye Sihan remained impassive, his deep thoughts unreadable.
Xing Ling reached out and grabbed his collar, pulling forcefully, bringing their faces very close together.
She intended to get closer to make her words more persuasive, but didn’t expect their faces to be so near that their breaths intertwined, sending a tingle through her scalp.
Her tipsy mind was slow to respond and she didn’t think to pull away immediately.
A strong finger gripped her chin, "What, now that words won’t work, you’re resorting to throwing yourself into my arms?"
Xing Ling thought, when did I ever throw myself at anyone?
Her chin felt the roughness of his fingertip, conveying a strong aggressiveness that made her frown slightly in discomfort.
She tried to free herself from his grip only to find his fingers tightening, preventing her from moving.
The alcohol instantly sobered up quite a bit, making the sense of panic all the more clear.
"Let go, that’s not what I meant."
"Scared now? Weren’t you very brave just a moment ago? Hmm?" Ye Sihan’s dark eyes were filled with aggression, as if he could tear apart the reckless woman in front of him at any second.
"It is you who are going too far..." Before Xing Ling could finish her sentence, her body was suddenly pressed against the hard wall.
But the hardness of the man’s chest in front of her was not much better than that of a wall.
It only added a sense of suffocation.
Ye Sihan bore into her, engulfing her in his shadow, his grip on her chin unrelenting; his voice was low and magnetic as he spoke, "Don’t think that just because you have some beauty, you can climb into a man’s bed. You’re not qualified."
Xing Ling wanted to say, who does he think she is? She had no interest in getting into his bed.
But his presence was so domineering it tightened her throat, leaving her unable to speak.
She had never felt so daunted by a man before.
Amidst the protracted silence, Ye Sihan did not let her go, their bodies almost touching.
It was also the first time he had been this close to a strange woman, and did not find it disagreeable.
"Hey, can you... can you not be so close to me?" Xing Ling saw that the man was staring at her and hadn’t moved for a long time, which was really unnerving.
Because she really couldn’t guess what he was thinking from the expression on Ye Sihan’s face.
People always fear the unknown!
Ye Sihan’s dark eyes seemed slightly stunned; he released her chin, his expression a bit dark, took a step back, and turned away.
With the pressure gone, Xing Ling watched Ye Sihan disappear around the corner before she could finally breathe easily.
Standing there somewhat dazed, she felt that Ye Sihan was a very dangerous man.
Should she really give up the lead role? If her two brothers at home found out, they would have her come home to be the lady of the house.
But after weighing the pros and cons, she still chose to give up seeing Zhou Xuan with Ye Sihan—it’s better than risking her life.
She’d have to wait and see what the director decided.
By the time she got to the private room, Ye Sihan and Wu Qianqian had already left.
There was no need to overly ingratiate herself with regards to national land resources; after all, sucking up wouldn’t change Ye Sihan’s actions.
So, she left after eating.
In the car, Xing Ling sat quietly by the window, her face flushed with the remnants of alcohol, looking like she might fall asleep at any moment.
The director beside her was at his wits’ end, unsure of how to solve the problem.
Actually, the director was in such a dilemma because on one hand, one-third of the film had already been shot; changing the lead actress now would not only extend the schedule but also burn through more money. On the other hand, if they didn’t replace the actress, they would have to leave Kyoto and find different locations to shoot.
"I’ve made the decision, let’s pack up and go!" the director said. "It’s just a filming location, at worst we’ll switch to another place. We were initially collaborating with a tourist area anyway, when our film becomes a hit, it will be the tourist area’s loss."
Xing Ling lifted her hazy face, looked at the director who had made his decision with resignation, and said, "I was actually about to suggest that you replace me."
"And have your two brothers chop me into pieces?" the director asked.
When Xing Ling joined the cast, the two elder brothers from the Xing Family had provided him with quite a few benefits; they had made it clear that if a single hair on Xing Ling’s head were harmed, he would face their wrath.
"Okay then, let’s get going! Sigh, I don’t like Kyoto anyway." Xing Ling’s head once again slumped powerlessly against the car window.
This remark surprised the director, "Why don’t you like it? Kyoto is so prosperous; for others, living here would symbolize wealth and power."
"Don’t know, I just don’t like it, feels like there’s no reason." Xing Ling’s eyes lacked vigor.
Actually, she had felt this way since her first day in Kyoto.
She wondered if it was because she was homesick?
Her cell phone started ringing. Xing Ling fumbled for a while before grabbing her phone, saw that it was her second brother Xing Yanjie, and answered, "Second Brother."
"Where are you?"
"Out and about, just finished eating," Xing Ling thought about the time difference and asked, "Aren’t you asleep yet, Second Brother?"
"I’m in Kyoto."
"What are you doing in Kyoto?"
"From your tone, am I not allowed to come?"
"No, no, you must be worried about me and that’s why you’re here. I’m actually doing quite well," Xing Ling hurriedly assured him.
Her second brother was stingy and easily angered; she didn’t want to provoke him.
Of course, her eldest brother was not someone to provoke, either.
Her eldest brother wouldn’t say that he was angry; he would just confine her and forbid her from going anywhere.
So, when it came down to it, Xing Ling felt a bit closer to her second brother.
"Come join me for dinner."
The driver took Xing Ling to a high-end club.
The director wanted to go inside to say hello, but Xing Ling told him not to bother; her second brother wouldn’t care about such formalities.
Once inside the private room, Xing Yanjie was the only one there, dressed in a casual suit, looking handsome and sipping coffee.
Drinking a cup of coffee before a meal was his habit.
"Second Brother," Xing Ling called out as she entered and sat down at the table. "When did you get here, Second Brother? Isn’t the company busy?"
"I came to check on you; it’s a foreign place for you, and someone might kidnap you," Xing Yanjie looked at his little sister, her eyes misty, face flushed, sitting sloppily.
She had obviously been drinking at noon.
He pressed the bell to call the waiter to serve a cup of honey water.
"I’m not three years old," Xing Ling pouted, then looked at him suspiciously, "There’s something else, isn’t there? I heard you and Big Brother talking about opening a branch in Kyoto."
"That’s part of it."
"So it’s not specifically to see me!"
"Jealous?" Xing Yanjie chuckled.
"Do I look like it?" Xing Ling stuck out her tongue and made a face.
The honey water arrived, and she took several sips.
Xing Yanjie looked at her drowsy appearance, "Who did you have lunch with?"
