Chapter 132 - Plan down the drain

Chapter 132: Chapter 132 - Plan down the drain

"we cant just go bare handed..." Muchen glanced around the room and silently broke apart the chair leg and handed each to the girls and the school boys. "make sure to smack them right on their head. Destroy their brain and they are dead." He watched the young girls blush.

"We... we are your fans... I never thought I would see you in my life."

Muchen awkwardly scratched his head. "oh...good. You got what I said right?" they both nodded. "good. Let’s get going. Be as silent as possible. They seem to have a good sense of hearing."

Just as they were about to step out of the classroom, a low grunt came from the balcony.

They all whirled around, weapons raised.

The taller student had climbed down, his face streaked with sweat and desperation. He was panting heavily, his fingers gripping the railing so tightly that his knuckles turned white.

"The others... they won’t come," he gasped out, his voice raw.

Before anyone could react, a terrified scream pierced the air from above.

"Don’t leave us! Ahhhh! I don’t want to die!"

The shrill cry sent chills down Muchen’s spine. His jaw clenched as he instinctively glanced up.

And then, as if summoned by the noise, the horde running upstairs suddenly halted.

For a brief, terrifying moment, there was silence.

Then, with a bone-chilling unison, the zombies turned and bolted back down the corridor.

Muchen’s stomach twisted.

"F*** this."

He didn’t hesitate. He grabbed Shao by the wrist and ran.

The others followed in a blind panic. The taller boy scrambled after them, his breath coming in choked sobs. The two girls clung to each other as they ran, their faces pale with terror.

They raced down the hallway, barely dodging overturned desks and bloodied remains.

The elevator.

Muchen slammed his fist against the call button. His heart hammered against his ribs as he watched the number above the door flicker and drop.

Come on, come on, come on...

The elevator dinged. The doors slid open.

And two zombies lunged out.

Muchen reacted instantly.

He grabbed the dead boy’s collar and flung him out of the elevator. The zombie stumbled, its mouth gaping open in a silent snarl before it crashed to the floor.

Shao handled the second one. With a brutal swing of his weapon, he bashed the zombie girl’s skull, sending her crumpling to the ground.

"Inside! Now!"

They pushed into the elevator.

Lu Zhi pounded the button for the top floor. The doors slid shut just as the first zombie outside scrambled back to its feet.

For a moment, they all just stood there, panting.

Lu Zhi, hands on his knees, let out a breathless chuckle. "You know... during emergencies, they say not to use elevators..." He wiped his sweat-drenched forehead. "But damn, these things are really useful right now."

The taller boy didn’t laugh.

He was shaking, his eyes red and swollen.

"I... they refused to move..." he whispered, his voice breaking. "They refused to come..."

Silent tears slid down his cheeks.

The girls behind him lowered their heads and began crying softly.

Shao pressed a hand to his back, firm but comforting.

"They chose not to leave." His voice was low, steady. "It’s not your fault."

The taller boy choked on a sob, his lips trembling.

"Don’t cry," Shao whispered. "Tears will cloud your sight. And you really don’t want to be distracted when dealing with those things."

The words hit hard.

The boy sniffled, swiping at his face with the sleeve of his uniform.

Ding.

They had reached the top floor.

Muchen stared at the doors with a sinking feeling.

The elevator didn’t go up to the terrace.

Shao cursed under his breath.

"We can access the fire escape from here," the taller boy muttered, wiping his nose on his sleeve.

"This way!"

Lu Zhi dragged his brother toward the right side of the corridor, their footsteps echoing through the empty hall.

Ahead of them stood a large glass sliding window. Lu Zhi reached for the handle, but it refused to budge.

"Damn it!" He pulled harder, his hands sweaty from panic.

The distant sound of growing snarls and rapid footsteps sent his heart racing.

He tried slamming his fist against the glass, but the impact barely made a dent.

"Move!"

Shao stepped forward, gripping the wooden table leg he had brought along.

With one powerful swing, he smashed the glass. Shards scattered in all directions, reflecting the dim moonlight.

He quickly used his cloth-wrapped arm to swipe away the jagged edges from the frame, clearing a safe exit.

"Go!" he ordered.

Muchen and Lu Zhi climbed out first, followed closely by the two girls and the taller boy.

Shao stayed back, his ears straining at the rapidly approaching growls.

His pulse thundered. They were coming.

Wasting no time, he swung his legs over and jumped down.

As soon as his feet hit the ground, they ran.

The yellow school bus stood just ahead, parked right by the side of the building.

A spark of hope flashed in Muchen’s eyes as they reached the driver’s side.

He yanked open the door, jumped into the seat, and reached for the ignition.

Then his breath hitched.

"The key... the key’s missing."

His voice cracked with panic.

Shao’s heart sank. "What?"

Muchen checked every possible compartment, feeling under the seat, flipping the visor—nothing.

"We can’t take this!" Muchen hissed, his hands clenching into fists.

Their entire plan was crumbling. The idea had been to take the bus, allowing Hana and the doctor to follow in their car. Now they had no choice but to get to the car themselves.

Lu Zhi’s throat felt dry. "Then we run."

Muchen took a deep breath, forcing himself to stay calm. There was no time to curse their luck.

They moved quickly and silently, ducking behind corners and crouching low behind trees.

The gate was just ahead.

But so was a shadowed figure, slowly staggering forward.

And it wasn’t alone.

The zombies had sensed them.
