Pregnant During An Apocalypse [BL]
Chapter 121 - Elevator

Chapter 121: Chapter 121 - Elevator

"They... can... open... doors now!!!" Hana shrieked, glancing back at the manic, bloodied creatures that scrambled up after them. Their movements were too fast, too coordinated—this wasn’t like the slow, shuffling zombies from horror movies.

"This is so not like the zombie apocalypse I’ve read about!" she cried.

Dr. Qiu Yue yanked her forward, forcing her legs to move faster. "I told you! They’re not mindless corpses—they’re still enhanced humans infected by a special virus. Their bodies might be deteriorating, but they still have the agility and instincts of a living human!"

Hana let out a wail of despair. "Zombies in movies don’t climb stairs this well! They don’t open doors! Why the hell do we have to face the ultimate version of zombies?! Our survival percentage is dropping fast!"

"Elevator!" Shao gasped between breaths. "**We’ll catch the elevator down. The zombies are all chasing us up the stairs—the basement should be empty now!"

Muchen barely kept up, one hand clutching his stomach, the other gripping Shao’s wrist like a lifeline. His vision blurred from exhaustion, but he forced himself to push forward.

Shao whipped his head around, yelling at the doctor. "Hey, doctor guy! You know this hospital’s layout, right? Get up front and lead us to the elevator!"

Dr. Qiu Yue didn’t hesitate. "Fourth floor." He panted. "That floor has the fewest patients. We take the elevator there."

The moment they reached the fourth floor, Dr. Qiu Yue veered sharply to the side, dragging Hana with him. They burst through the fire exit door, stumbling into the dimly lit corridor.

Shao and Muchen crashed in right after them.

BANG.

The fire exit door swung shut behind them.

Silence.

The only sound was their labored breathing—for now.

But there was one major problem.

The fire exit door had no lock.

Muchen’s heart dropped. If these zombies could open doors... they were just giving them another way in.

The hallway stretched out ahead of them, lined with dark hospital wards. A faint smell of disinfectant and old blood hung in the air.

"The first floor is the emergency ward," Dr. Qiu Yue huffed. "We absolutely can’t go there." He mumbled under his breath. "Left... to your left."

Behind them, the fire exit door rattled.

They didn’t waste time.

The moment Dr. Qiu Yue pointed the way, they sprinted down the hall, weaving past overturned hospital carts and blood-smeared walls.

A low, guttural growl echoed through the hallway.

They skidded to a halt.

A zombie nurse stood in their way.

Her uniform was torn and bloodied, her once neat hair now a wild mess, tangled with dry, crusted gore. The name tag on her chest still read "Yuki", though her clouded, lifeless eyes showed no hint of the person she once was.

Dr. Qiu Yue’s breath hitched. His eyes widened ever so slightly.

"Shit... Yuki..." he whispered, frozen in place.

Before anyone could react, Yuki lunged.

She was fast.

Her decayed hands grabbed the front of his coat, jerking him forward. He barely had time to let out a strangled gasp before—

CRACK.

A bedpan smashed against Yuki’s face.

The force of the impact sent her reeling to the side, her grip on the doctor loosening.

"No time for your hospital romance!" Hana gripped Dr. Qiu Yue’s arm and yanked him back. "We have to leave! Which way?!"

Dr. Qiu Yue, still dazed, stumbled behind her.

"R-Right... Now!" he stammered.

Shao and Muchen didn’t wait. They rushed forward, dragging each other along.

The elevator was in sight.

They ran full speed, shoes screeching against the tile floor, and skidded to a panting stop in front of it.

Shao slammed the elevator button.

The small screen blinked to life.

20... 19... 18...

The elevator was slowly descending from the twentieth floor.

Everyone stared at the numbers, hearts pounding.

Seconds felt like hours.

"We can’t be unguarded," Muchen muttered, one hand clutching his stomach. His body trembled slightly, but his grip tightened around his IV stand.

He turned, facing the opposite direction from the elevator.

"Everyone form a circle," he instructed, his voice calm but firm. "We have to protect ourselves until the elevator comes down."

The others nodded.

Shao stood to Muchen’s right, gripping his broken table leg like a baseball bat.

Hana and Dr. Qiu Yue moved to the left, Hana still holding the bedpan, while the doctor’s hands shook as he clutched a pair of surgical scissors.

Behind them, the hallway remained eerily silent.

A loud bang shattered the tense silence.

The once-empty corridor erupted with the sound of scrambling footsteps—a horde of zombies came charging their way.

Dozens.

Their bloodstained faces twisted in mindless hunger, bodies jerking unnaturally as they sprinted down the hallway. The fire exit door burst open, and even more poured in, their moans echoing like a death march.

And the worst part?

They were trapped.

The elevator was positioned at the very end of the hallway, backed against a solid wall. No escape routes. Nowhere to run.

Muchen gritted his teeth, gripping his IV stand so tightly his knuckles turned white.

"Come on, come on, come on!"

Hana frantically pressed the button, jabbing it over and over.

The display screen blinked.

8...

She whimpered. "For once in your life, Lady Luck, please be on our side."

The zombies were getting closer.

Hana kept slamming the button.

"I want to live!" she declared desperately. "I want to go to so many concerts in my life, and I want to be a fangirl!"

Dr. Qiu Yue gave her a bewildered look.

"That’s all you want in life?!"

"Shut up!" She shot him a glare before whipping her head back toward the elevator.

6...

The zombies were almost at the halfway point.

Muchen inhaled sharply, his stomach twisting in pain, but he still held his ground.

"Get ready," he murmured.

Shao tensed beside him, both hands tight on his makeshift bat.

"We’re dead if that elevator doesn’t open in time," Dr. Qiu Yue muttered, adjusting his grip on the surgical scissors.

"No shit, genius!" Hana snapped.

The zombies were now twenty feet away.

Hana’s breath hitched. "Come on, come on..."

5...

"Fuck."

Shao adjusted his stance. "We hold the line. We don’t let them near Muchen."

Muchen didn’t argue. He just raised his IV stand, eyes locked on the horde.

"If this door doesn’t open by the time they reach us, we fight to the death," he muttered.

Hana let out a hysterical laugh.

"You two are insane!" she yelled, pressing the button one last time.

4...

The first zombie lunged forward.

The door opened.
