Pregnant During An Apocalypse [BL]
Chapter 115 - Driving off

Chapter 115: Chapter 115 - Driving off

Yunfeng sat frozen in his room, gripping his phone tightly. His sister’s panicked voice echoed in his mind, her sobs still fresh in his ears. He had to act quickly. Without wasting another second, he started throwing essentials into a backpack—clothes, food, water, and anything he thought would help him survive the unknown chaos awaiting him in City A.

He took a deep breath and stepped out of his room. His mother was in the kitchen, humming softly as she prepared breakfast. He forced a calm expression onto his face. "Mom, I need to go out for a bit. Jia wanted some help with something."

His mother barely looked up. "Be back before dinner."

Relieved, he hurried to the front door. But just as he reached the gate, a familiar voice stopped him in his tracks.

"Yunfeng!" Jia, his best friend, was standing there, eyes wide with shock. He had just noticed Yunfeng’s packed bag. "Did you hear about what’s happening in City A? You were right. There are rabid people out there—eating others. It’s too dangerous! Thank God we escaped..."

Jia trailed off as he took in Yunfeng’s panicked state, the tightly gripped straps of his bag, the tension in his stance. His face darkened. "What is this? Why do you have a bag packed?" He reached out, gripping Yunfeng’s arm tightly. "Yunfeng?"

Yunfeng exhaled sharply, knowing he couldn’t hide it anymore. "Hana... she’s in City A."

Jia’s eyes widened in disbelief. "What?! How did she—"

"I don’t know! She called me. She’s trapped. I told her to hide." Yunfeng’s grip on his bag tightened. "I have to go. Please take care of my mother till we come back."

Jia clenched his jaw and tightened his grip on Yunfeng’s arm. "What the hell? So you’re just going to walk into the city like this? Alone?"

Yunfeng realized how unprepared he was. He had only packed a few days’ worth of food. No weapons, no real plan—just blind desperation. "Yeah, shit. I forgot—I need weapons. I need something to fight them off..."

Jia grabbed his wrist and pulled him toward his house. "I know where my dad keeps all the guns. Come on, we can grab some and go find Hana together. I’ll have my dad send a few people over."

"No!" Yunfeng hesitated. "What if... what if something happens to them?"

The Tera Virus was still a mystery. In the future, he had learned that it was supposed to be a bomb—a massive detonation meant to wipe out populations. But in this life, there was no bomb. The virus had spread silently, creeping through the city before anyone even realized what was happening. It had taken them all by surprise.

Jai and Yunfeng crept through the house like two mischievous cats.

The living room was dimly lit, casting long shadows over the two family heads, who were silently performing tai chi in perfect synchrony.

Jai and Yunfeng, holding their breath, tiptoed as silently as they could past the two elders, hoping to remain unnoticed. Just as they thought they were in the clear, a low, knowing voice rumbled through the quiet space.

"What are you two up to?"

Jai’s grandfather didn’t even pause his movements, his eyes narrowing as he peered at them through the dim light.

Jai stiffened but quickly recovered, flashing an exaggerated grin. "Oh, Yunfeng was showing me his cool new swag! You know, he got new shoes, and they are just amazing! Super bouncy, great for running! He even has them in here!" He patted Yunfeng’s massive, bulging bag enthusiastically, making it rustle suspiciously.

Yunfeng, caught off guard, nodded rapidly. "Yep. New limited-edition sneakers. Ultra comfortable. Very... uh, high-tech."

"Mmm." Jai’s grandfather hummed, clearly unconvinced. His gaze lingered on them for a long, uncomfortable moment before sighing. "Your child is... different."

Jai’s father, still locked in the slow, controlled tai chi stance, exhaled deeply. "He must get it from his mother’s side."

Jai didn’t stick around to hear more. Grabbing Yunfeng’s arm, he yanked him away toward the study before either elder decided to probe further.

Once inside the study, Jai locked the door and rushed toward the massive wooden desk. "Alright, my dad keeps his personal rifle here. Hold this," he whispered, shoving an armful of knick-knacks at Yunfeng while rummaging through the drawers.

The first drawer—filled with neatly stacked documents. Boring.

The second drawer—old receipts, pens, and a suspiciously large collection of chewing gum. Weird.

The third drawer—bingo! A small arsenal of firearms gleamed under the soft desk light.

"Oh." Yunfeng blinked. "I was expecting one or two. Not... a whole collection."

Jai shrugged, quickly grabbing as many as he could and stuffing them into Yunfeng’s already bulging bag. "You never know when you’ll need options."

"This is too heavy," Yunfeng hissed, adjusting the weight of the bag.

Jai ignored him, his eyes darting around the room. "Did you pack enough food? We might need more."

Yunfeng sighed. "I packed as much as I could carry—"

"Not enough." Jai declared. He snatched another bag and sprinted to his room, skidding to a stop in front of his bed. With expert precision, he crouched down and pulled out an impressive stash of snacks—chips, candy, instant noodles, and an alarming number of energy bars.

Yunfeng peered over his shoulder. "...How long have you been hoarding these?"

"Long enough to know emergency snacks are a necessity," Jai replied solemnly as he packed everything into the second bag.

Yunfeng grunted as he adjusted both bags on his shoulders, nearly toppling over under their weight. "Okay... is it okay if I borrow a car? I don’t know if buses will be running now."

Jai casually pulled one bag from his hand, slinging it over his own shoulder. "I can take my car."

Yunfeng shook his head vehemently. "No, you are not coming."

Jai grinned. "As if that’s happening."

"No! I am not letting you come with me."

Jai chuckled, his voice laced with amusement. "You don’t have a choice. It’s my car. I am coming."

"Jai!" Yunfeng gripped his arm, his expression deadly serious. "Do you know what you’re asking for? There will be zombies out there. You... you will end up hurt. I can’t allow that."

Jai pulled his hand away, his grin fading into something more determined. "You’re the one who should be worried. Do you even know how to use those firearms? You have no clue what you’re heading into, and you won’t even allow any backup to come with you. Do you really think I’ll let you go alone? Not a chance in hell! I’m coming, and that is final."

Yunfeng knew he had lost this battle. There was no stopping Jai when he got like this. Sighing in resignation, he followed him as they sneaked down to the basement, where the family’s vehicles were kept. Yunfeng’s eyes widened when he saw the array of transportation options—luxury cars, motorcycles, and even a few military-grade tanks parked in neat rows.

He turned to Jai, eyes practically sparkling with hope. "Can we take these?"

Jai raised an eyebrow. "Oh, I can’t drive that."

Yunfeng deflated. "You and your rich-kid privileges mean nothing if you don’t know how to drive a tank."

Jai ignored the jab and led him to a beat-up old Ford tucked in the corner. He threw his bag into the backseat and unlocked the doors. "Get in. We have to be fast."

Yunfeng slid into the passenger seat, still sulking. "This car better not break down on us."

Jai started the engine, and with a low rumble, they drove out of the Jai residence without any issue.

For now.
