PAMPERED BY MY THREE BROTHERS: THE RETURN OF THE NEGLECTED HEIRESS
Chapter 1831: Everything because of you

Chapter 1831: Everything because of you

Zoren lowered his head slightly as the men closed in from all sides. Suddenly, in this oppressive silence, he heard her voice.

"Renren."

It was Penny’s voice; her voice as a child—that sweet and innocent voice that was the first to touch his heart. The voice he had mentally stored, just to never forget the person who had pushed him to keep going.

"My darling."

Then, followed by the voice of his wife. That sweet, gentle, loving voice, matched with those beautiful eyes that looked at him as if she was simply grateful to have him around. In his first life, he didn’t have enough memories to recall.

His life didn’t even flash before his eyes when he died, and it didn’t surprise him. After all, there was nothing in his first life worth remembering. No memories he would like to take to the afterlife. In this life, however, there were too many.

And if his life were to flash before his eyes, he knew he would take his last breath with a smile.

But not now.

Zoren drew another deep breath, apologizing to his wife in his heart for breaking his promise—a promise to get out of here unscathed. If he wanted to survive and escape, he knew he had to spill his own blood.

Resolve hardened in his mind as he nodded to himself. He listened to the sounds behind him, while his eyes were fixed on the entrance. He first caught a muzzle moving in carefully, but then, he looked away. He glanced over his shoulder, catching one approaching.

In the next second, Zoren hit the man on the leg before lunging where the man was. The man next to him pointed a gun, but in close proximity, Zoren grabbed the falling man and used him as a shield.

Taking the men off guard, he grabbed the body of the rifle and pointed it at the entrance.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Heat seared his palm, but that didn’t stop him from thrusting the rifle’s handle, hitting a man’s chest. Coming from his other side, another man pulled the trigger. Unfortunately, it clicked empty before he knew it.

As Zoren wrestled with the other, he twisted the rifle’s strap and opened fire at the man. He had to thank his wife for all the times she pushed him to work hard, and encouraged him to get better both physically and mentally.

Because if not for that, he wouldn’t be fighting even if it were against several men.

But as Zoren engaged in close combat, managing to avoid fatal hits, just grazes—someone in the corner backed away. His eyes were wide, watching Zoren take down one opponent after another without a second to breathe.

It didn’t matter to Zoren even if he was grazed or inflicted a blow in return. He just fought anyone around.

’This monster...’ The man clenched his teeth, his body shivering as he recalled just how this perfectly secured mansion had turned into a battleground.

The commanders had said that as long as they shot down the men who were with Zoren, no problem would occur. But even Butler Gilbert was dead. His friends were dead. He was just a new recruit, and he shouldn’t even be here in the first place.

"You—" the man clenched his teeth, reaching for a handgun at his side. His rifle was already empty. Luckily, he had a reserved pistol for emergency purposes.

Once he cocked the pistol, the man in the corner watched as Zoren went one-on-one with the last guy on their team. His pistol trembled as he raised it.

"It’s all your fault..." he muttered, trying to get a proper shot at Zoren, who was slammed on the counter while being headlocked. But then, Zoren, despite his position, reached out for something.

The man in the corner glanced to where Zoren was reaching, catching the latter’s fingertips grazing a rifle. He panicked, and before he knew it, he opened fire.

BANG!

"You fucker. I’m going to kill—" the man who had Zoren pinned on the counter, arms around his neck, felt something hit him on the side.

His breath hitched as he touched his side, his grip on Zoren’s neck loosening. When he turned his head, his eyes went wide as his gaze landed on his own brother.

"You—"

The man in the corner who had opened fire paled. His mouth quivered, opening and closing. "I—I’m sorry!"

But his words didn’t reach his brother as the latter went limp, falling on Zoren’s side. The moment his brother’s body fell with a thud, the man’s mind went black. All he could do was stare blankly at the body, then shift his blank eyes to Zoren.

Zoren coughed while touching his neck, blood dripping from the side of his head.

"You..." the man breathed out. For some reason, the trembling of his hand stopped.

With Zoren now in the open, he could never miss him again.

"It’s your fault," he muttered. "Everything... everything because of you. You should’ve just dropped dead."

BANG!

Zoren froze as the sound of the shot echoed in his ears. When he lifted his head, all he saw was the spark coming out of the pistol’s muzzle and the smoke it left behind. With such close proximity, he knew it was too late to even hide.

His breath hitched, his eyes wide and unblinking. But instead of finally having a glimpse of his life, his mind went blank as he whispered,

"No."

He couldn’t die; he would not accept that because he could never bear the thought of leaving his wife behind. Especially not the thought of her remarrying. Over his dead body.

And despite not thinking of his action, his body moved even before he could consciously process it. His arm jolted up, thinking it was better to get shot in the arm than in the head. But as he did so, a sudden weight crashed on his side, tackling him to the floor with a violent thud.

Thud!

BANG!
