Chapter 1800: Time’s running.

[Short Flashback]

"So, where are we headed?" Slater asked as they—he, Penny, and Shawn—gathered in the middle of the underground collection room. They’d already chosen their vehicle; now they just needed to finalize their first destination.

"We can go to the Mansion, but with only the three of us, it’s going to be tricky," he added. "On top of that, that granny already told us the Mansion was being run by Nathalie Zorken. So, we might not even get through the door before they start shooting us down."

Shawn’s expression was slightly dark, his eyes down, deep in thought. "Jonathan doesn’t know that."

After saying that, he lifted his eyes and met the siblings’ gazes.

"At least, from what I know, our original plan was for me to hand over the code to him in the mansion," he explained. "Unless there’s been a change of plans, then he’s failed. Or rather, she already knew what he was planning."

"If that’s true, then he’s been played," Penny answered almost indifferently. "If not, then that guy’s going to get his karma soon."

"Hope she kills him," Slater blurted out carelessly, his eyes back on Penny. "So? What should we do? We don’t have a radio to contact the others, so we don’t know where they all headed."

"Isn’t it obvious they’d go to the mansion?"

"They would, but not without a plan," she said. "Moreover, my husband and First Brother wouldn’t go there first. So, I’m sure Mint or Second Brother will eye the mansion first to buy them some time."

"Then what’s the plan?"

Both Slater and Shawn remained quiet, waiting for Penny to tell them what was on her mind.

"We’ll..." she paused, thinking about the situation and their dilemmas. "We’ll split."

Their brows rose as they heard her suggestion.

"Three of us are already too little, and you want us to split?" Slater blurted out. "Are you serious?"

Penny nodded. "Someone has to find the rest, and another needs to assess the situation in the mansion."

"I can go to the mansion," Shawn volunteered without hesitation, but Penny shook her head.

Slater, however, was the first to speak. "Someone needs to look after you just in case you have another change of heart," he stressed, making sure Shawn knew what he was implying. "Besides, I’m more fit to go to the mansion and blend in."

"They will recognize you—"

"Do you think they won’t recognize you?" he retorted without a second thought. "You said you were part of their organization since you were young. Even if you don’t interact with the big boss, I’m sure she knows your faces more clearly than you think. And her soldiers, too."

"Slater’s right." Penny nodded. "She or her men would quickly recognize you the second they laid eyes on you. Besides, with your physique, you’re really not easy to ignore. My brother’s chances, on the other hand, are higher than yours. Mainly because no one actually expects him to be here."

She shrugged while Slater nodded. After a second, she arched a brow at Shawn and added, "Did you expect him?"

Shawn pressed his mouth into a thin line and didn’t answer, but his silence was enough. The answer was too obvious—no one expected Slater. And the reason was simple: he was never a threat to anyone.

No one knew that Slater was capable in this area. If others did, they wouldn’t have just focused on Hugo.

"So, Slater will try to sneak his way into the mansion while you and I will have to search the island for our guys," Penny clapped, snapping Shawn back to the current conversation. "With the chaos here, I’m sure we’ll see one or two groups. Then, we’ll regroup."

The three of them stood motionlessly and nodded at each other. With that, Shawn jumped into the truck’s driver’s seat while Penny and Slater got into the back of the truck. Using the ramp from the underground, their truck revved up and sped out, crashing and breaking the hut that was hiding this underground space in the process.

The second they hit the road, the back of the truck slowly opened. The light of a red sports car beamed, and in another beat, the sports car drove out of the truck, tires screeching.

Inside the sports car was Slater.

The car drifted and spun once in the middle of the asphalt road, braking for a moment. Meanwhile, Penny stood in the back of the truck, her eyes on him.

Seated in the driver’s seat, Slater gazed at her and nodded. Penny pressed her lips into a thin line before she nodded back. With that, Slater revved up his car once more, driving in the direction of the Mansion.

Penny, on the other hand, stared at the rear of the sports car, whispering, "Good luck," before she slapped the truck to signal Shawn to pull up the entrance.

Hence, the reason Penny eventually found Hugo and some members of the Shadow Order on the side of the road.

[Present Time]

Thanks to the members of the Shadow Order, Penny was able to bring Hugo to this small cabin. It was an old cabin, but as seemed to be the norm on this island, it also had an underground area. Beneath this cabin was a small clinic, sterile and complete with equipment.

By the time they reached it, Hugo had temporarily passed out. Well, he was knocked out by her, just to save him from feeling the pain.

Penny didn’t waste a second, knowing her brother’s leg would soon die if not treated. Hugo had been forcing his leg, and even if she had no idea what he’d done since the beginning, she was aware whatever it was had been excessive.

Meanwhile, Shawn and the other group with them just stayed on the side. Mint was already placed on the other bed, although she wasn’t injured. They all just watched Penny clean Hugo’s injury and get into whatever she was doing.

"I didn’t know she’s a doctor," one of the men muttered, then shifting his gaze at them. "Are you sure we should be here? Time’s running."
