Not Sure, Another World Reincarnation -
Chapter 154: It looks like we’re heading to a Hot Spring
“For that reason, Ren, shall we head to a Hot Spring?”
“Eh? A Hot Spring?”
“Yes, a Hot Spring. Ah, do you know what a Hot Spring is?”
“I know, yes. But, a Hot Spring?”
“Yes, a Hot Spring.”
One night, Lily suddenly said that. No, really, what’s happening all of a sudden?
… Well, when I asked for more details, it wasn’t anything that difficult.
Originally, we talked about moving on soon, since the number of subjugation requests have died down. However, while discussing this, we met Kuro again, she joined the party, and we spent time with cooperation training, so our stay happened to get extended.
As it was about time to move on, when Kuro’s training started to show results, Lily began gathering information on our next destination.
What she heard was that there was a Hot Spring close by, a bit of distance from this town.“I thought Ren might be into that kind of unusual experience… What do you think?”
“Hot Spring huh…”
Honestly, I do want to go to a Hot Spring. In fact, after hearing about it, I really do want to go.
“However, the Hot Springs should be located east of here, and it seems the shortest route would be to cut through the forest. If we follow the road, we’ll have to head north a bit, back towards the Royal Capital, before going east.”
Hm, I see. Our current destination is to head to Harula by going through Mubarro, but I’m not in a hurry, and wandering around here and there isn’t any trouble. Besides, I’m in the mood to soak in a Hot Spring. So, we decided that our next destination would be a Hot Spring.
“Hot Springs do sound good. So should we set off tomorrow?”
“Eh? Tomorrow? Isn’t that too early? What about preparations…?”
“Lily~, it’s okay~. Ren definitely has stockpiles of food and supplies~.”
“Really?”
“That’s right~. Whenever we go grocery shopping, we always buy lots of stuff~”
“It certainly seems like we buy a lot… Ren, are we really okay?”
“Mhmm.”
Yeah, it’s fine~, it’s fine~. Right now, we have enough food to last all four of us for about two years without doing any work.
“Uh, what about potions…?”
“Ren has so many, she could sell them. In fact, Ren can make them on the spot, so it’s okay~.”
“…That’s true. Uh, Ren?”
“All set on that front too.”
Yeah, it’s fine~, it’s fine~. I have a considerable amount of materials stockpiled. Just leave it to me!
“We got a good deal on the house since the contract allows for same-day cancellation. After that, it’s really just going around to say goodbye. But even if we don’t get the chance to see everyone, well… that’s just part of being an adventurer.”
“Ah… That’s true…”
“Yes~, I agree~.”
“Uh, Kuro?”
“Kuro, you okay?”
“Mm~”
… Kuro had been curled up on the back of the sofa, she responded, but I’m not sure if she heard us or not. She looked half asleep.
“… Well, I’ll take care of Kuro if anything happens, so no worries.”
“… I see. Well, it may be a bit sudden, but let’s go around and give our farewells first thing tomorrow morning, before we leave town.”
Lily, why are you posing like you have a headache?
Early the next morning, once we finished our preparations to leave the rented house, we went straight to the Commerce Guild. Well, I say ‘preperations,’ but it didn’t take long. First, I should put away all the interior items we added during our quick renovations, right? Next, the interior is returned to its “Pre-Rental Condition,” right down to the accumulated dust.
Huh? I’m just being annoying? No no, originally, “When moving out, please return the property to its original condition, as much as possible.” It’s a clause in the contract. I’m just restoring the property, as per the contract. Completely back to normal. Hahaha.
Next, after restoring the interior, I left the house and retrieved the temporary stables. As for the garden fence… well, I guess I can just leave it.
We then travelled by carriage to the Commerce Guild. There was designated parking, so we parked the carriage, entered the building, and went to the counter.
“We’re leaving town today, so please terminate our contract.”
“Oh, today? That’s rather sudden… Well, for us, the house will finally be vacant. It’s good that it’s quick, that way we can move onto our next negotiation.”
“Huh…? Is that so?”
He’s saying something I didn’t really understand, what’s he talking about? Well, whatever. I submitted the contract, he added a note stating that it has been completed, then signed it.
“I don’t believe there’s any problems, as per the contract, we’ve restored it to its original condition, just in case.”
“Its original condition you say? …Ah, that’s certainly in the contract. Yes yes, please keep that contract with you. You’ll need it if something goes wrong.”
“I understand.”
Problems? There shouldn’t be any. I restored the property back, perfectly.
After returning the keys to the rental house, we made our way to the Adventurer’s Guild. We don’t really need to tell them we’re leaving, but we decided to give a quick goodbye to the Guild Master. Lily, it seemed like she wanted to do these things properly. Well, I do agree with her. Arisa tends to leave these matters to Lily, so she doesn’t have any objections. Kuro? She’s just sleeping curled up in the carriage seat.
We parked the carriage in front of the Adventure’s Guild and went to the counter. The Guild Master was already there. This guy, maybe he’s just bored afterall…? Ah, he’s giving me a suspicious smile. I’m sorry, I was only kidding.
I’ll leave Lily to do the talking.
“So, you’re leaving already? …That’s a shame.”
“Yes, well, we are adventurers.”
“That you are, since you’re all adventurers, it can’t be helped… Adventurers will go on adventures.”
“It’ll be different once we’ve decided on a base.”
“… You building a base? Were you planning on making one in this town?”
“Hmm, I wonder? I’m not sure if we’ll set up a base here or not. I do think this is a nice town though.”
“You do, huh…?”
Ah… a base, a base. It would be convenient to have one, but it would make it harder to travel far away… But, it’s still a long way off…
After saying farewell to the Guild Master, we were about to leave the Guild Hall when we ran into Rad and his group.
“Oh, Arisa and Lily, Ren too. It’s unusual to see you all here so early, is something wrong?”
“Hey~, Rad, it’s good to see you~. Our group has decided to leave here today~. So, it’s like a ‘farewell’ round~?”
“What? You’re leaving already?”
“You say ‘already,’ but we’ve been here for about two months now~.”
“Is that so?… Ah, then take care of yourselves.”
“I hope you have great adventures too~.”
Yeah, it’s unusual for Arisa to respond, but the farewell was rather quick.
I heard Arisa had been fighting with Rad and his friends quite often in the arena, and they started to get along pretty well. I only interacted with them when I sold him that magic sword, but he seems like he had connections with other party members when he fought with them a few times.
I’m also familiar with Nell, a magic warrior who uses a small spear, but there’s a petite girl named Lila, who was their scout, and a tall blonde named Kate, their magician.
I thought it was a randomly put together harem party, but it’s actually pretty well balanced. If I had to say one thing, Rad has to double as a shield while on the front line, so their defense is a bit worrying.
… Well, that’s the same for our party. Our clan only has girls, but we’re very focused on firepower, so our balance is quite poor… I can be a shield by using the magic armor, but for now I plan to keep it a secret, so it’s not that easy…
Well, we gave our farewells to the Guild Master and the Adventurer’s Guild, and were lucky enough to bump into Rad and his group. Then I guess we should stop by and visit Gim, along with Triela and Ryuu.
I wonder if I’ll be able to meet Triela today. For one reason or another, our timing has never worked out, and I haven’t been able to meet her even once yet… It’s just been really bad timing.
Next, we left town and made our way to the camp sites.
We got off the carriage not far from where the tents could be seen and then made our way on foot. However, there wasn’t any proper parking for carriages around here, so I had Norn stay behind to keep an eye on our carriage. Sorry.
Outside the tents reserved for Gim and the rest of his team, I saw Ryuu practicing his sword swings.
“Huh? Ren? What’s wrong?”
“Well, we’re leaving town today so we stopped to say goodbye.”
“Eh? You’re leaving already?”
“We’ve been here for about two months now.”
“Ah, I see… That’s right.”
“So we’re here to see Gim, and I was hoping for a chance to see Triela as well…”
“… Triela went to get breakfast again today, so she’s not here right now… Ah, she’s already left!”
“Ah…”
… We always seem to miss each other. I doubt it’ll actually happen, but this isn’t going to end with ‘And after that, they never saw each other again,’ right? No, seriously.
“Uhm, Ren, we’re going to say bye to Gim, so can you keep Ryuu company?”
“Eh? Ah, yes. Is that okay?”
“Yeah, this is fine.”
“Then I’ll leave that to you.”
“Yes.”
With that, Lily and the others went off towards Gim’s tent.
… Now then.
“…”
“…”
“…Ren, What’ll you do?”
“…What should I do?”
Hmm, what should I do? I still feel uneasy about not being able to see her, so I’m wondering about that.
“Ah! There she is!”
“Eh? Ah, Triela?”
As Ryuu and I were groaning, we heard a familiar voice. We turned around in surprise to see Triela.
“Hey Triela! Ren is about to leave town!”
“Eeh? …Ha~, I didn’t think that was happening, but if that’s the case, I’m glad I started running…”
Apparently, Triela saw my carriage in town and had a strange feeling, so she quickly bought some bread and ran back here.
“I had seen you in the distance a few times in town, and you’re usually walking, but today you were in your carriage, right? Then something suddenly dawned on me.”
“…Is that so? But I’m relieved, in the end, I wasn’t able to see your face until today… Rather, if you saw me in town, you should have said hello.”
“No, I had thought about calling out to you a few times, but I was always in the middle of running errands… But I’m glad you’re doing well. I’ve been hearing bits and pieces from Ryuu and Gim.”
“Yes, same here, I’d heard some things from Ryuu, but I really wanted to see your face, so I’m glad.”
That’s right, I would run into Ryuu every now and then at the arena to chat. Triela had to stay at the camp and take care of things there, except when she went to the guild to take a bath. Though she would come to the arena on rare occasions, it seemed like our timings never matched up.
“I also asked Ryuu, but is everyone else okay? …I think there’s a lot of things guys don’t notice, anything like that?”
“Ah… Things that guys don’t notice. Yeah, everything is fine.”
“Then it’s all good.”
“Thank you for your concern.”
“No no.”
“… What do you mean ‘things guys don’t notice’?”
“That is just that, something boys don’t understand.”
“Yes yes, an uninteresting story.”
“Right?”
“… What is that?”
Yeah, well that’s the story. Putting that aside, we decided to chat for a bit before Lily and the others returned.
“I heard about Cain, that must have been tough…”
“That, well, a bit. No matter what you say, it still hurts a lot that those two left, but we ended up relying on Gim. In a sense, there were some good things too.”
“I think it would be most painful in terms of crime prevention though…”
“Yes, that’s true. But recently we’ve been temporarily teaming up with Sheryl and Melty. We get along well and have been thinking about having them join our party.”
“Ah, that might be a good idea. As I recall, Sheryl fought bare-handed on the front line, while Melty was a scout in the rear, right? That’ll help keep it balanced.”
Yeah, that’s good. The scout slot that Kuro vacated will be filled, and the front line firepower will be increased. Although I’d be concerned about the team’s durability, the overall balance is closer to when Cain and Boman were there.
“But, I’m not sure if we should be living together… you see, we don’t have free rooms, right? And sharing the room with Maricle and Ryuu would be a bit of a problem.”
“Ah…”
As we talked, I saw Lily and the others coming out of Gim’s tent. Ah, it’s that time already.
“Triela, I’m giving this to you. Please use it.”
“Eh? What? A shoulder bag?”
I leaned my face close to her ear and whispered quietly.
“It’s a magic bag. It has decent capacity, so it’s convenient for carrying small items.”
Yeah, it was one of the magic bags I had made as part of an experiment. I wasn’t going to use it anyways, it would just be gathering dust in my Storage, so I might as well put it to use.
But, since I only granted it [Item Box Lv1], the capacity is about 20kg, and the contents will age normally over time. It’s not a large capacity, so even if it were stolen, the damage wouldn’t be that bad… Probably.
“Hey, I can’t take this!”
“Don’t worry, don’t worry.”
“Uuw… This, it’s one of those things where you won’t accept returns?”
“That’s right, you know that, don’t you?”
“……Aaaah, Come on! …Sigh… Okay. I’ll gratefully accept it. But this is something I shouldn’t just use openly, right?”
“That’s right, it’s best to keep it a secret until everyone has gained some more skills.”
“Okay, I’ll be careful.”
And just as I finished with that, Lily came over.
“Ren, is everything okay now?”
“Yes, everything is fine now.”
Okay, let’s head out now. Just then, Triela called out to Lily.
“Ah, Uhm! About Ren, please take good care of her!”
“Eh? Ah, yes. We’ll treat her well.”
… Hold on, what’s this exchange? It’s like I’m a problem child, stop it.
“… I say that, but the ones being treated well are most likely us.”
“Aah…”
Lily said that while looking at the bag Triela was holding, as though she wanted to say something else. Triela looked at Lily’s staff and Arisa’s sword, then nodded with an expression that’s hard to describe.
Don’t worry, it’s convenient. No, I suppose their reaction is them being worried that something bad could happen.
After that, we left the camp grounds, and as we started making our way down the road, someone started running from town. They started yelling, was it to us?
Who is that? As I looked more closely, their face seemed a little familiar… Who was it again? Ah, that’s the person who I dealt with at the Commerce Guild.
“What was that, you! Please, change it back!”
Ha? What now? Change what back?
Well, when I listened to what he had to say, it was about the interior of the rented house.
“Eh? I changed it back, right? As per the contract, it’s been returned to its original condition.”
“Yeah, well… no, but, isn’t that just weird? How can we possibly get it back to the way it was…?”
“It doesn’t really matter how you get it back, right? The interior has been returned to its original condition, so what’s the problem? You mean, you wanted us to return it to you in the same condition as when we were using it?”
“That is…… No, this……”
Listening to him, he didn’t actually have anything, he was just trying to be calculating.
When we first rented the house, I paid the rent every day, and when this person came to the house to collect that rent, it appears he had caught a glimpse of the inside.
Seeing our luxurious renovations, it appears he assumed that once we moved out, he could rent it out for a higher price with a little renovation on the exterior. Then he brought it to the attention of their Guild Master, which resulted in smooth discussions, and they quickly decided on their next tenant.
After we left, he went with his guild’s master to check out the interior, and to their surprise, it was a run-down house, returned to the way it was before it had been rented out!
Apparently, the Guild Master was furious when he saw it, and this guy went chasing after us in a panic.
“That’s why, the Guild Master wants to speak with you. So please come back and explain. And also restore the interior.”
“No, there is nothing to talk about since we have plans, we’ll be leaving now. As for the interior, I returned it to its original condition, as stated in the contract, so there is no putting it back the way we had it.”
“But!”
“… Haa, it’s good, right? In the first place, we have returned the property to its original condition, as stated in the contract. Am I wrong?”
“That, that’s…”
“As per the contract, am I right?”
“… Yes, as per the contract.”
“So there are no problems, right?”
“That, that’s true… but, there’s a contract with the next tenant…”
“That is between the next tenant and the Guild, so it doesn’t concern us, right?”
“… That is.”
“That is?”
“……No, that is correct. Please pardon me…”
The man from the counter trudged off. It seems he gave up and decided to just get scolded.
… Just in case, I told him that if he had negotiated with me prior, and had paid the appropriate price, I would have been happy to leave the interior as it was. Disappointed, he said that he didn’t have the money.
Well, he was the one who was calculating things on his own. What can I say, do your best?
While the manga shows the Adventure’s Guild Master’s gender is female, the web novel doesn’t specify. While English mostly uses gender specific pronouns, japanese frequently uses gender neutral. Previous chapters translates them into being male, so I’ll continue as such unless shown otherwise.
