Chapter 97: Chapter 77: The Corpse Went Missing_2

"If you don’t want to be burdened, then don’t be," Wayne stood up, snapped his fingers, and sparks began to dance off his body, igniting the pollen spores that clung to his skin.

A vortex of flames swirled around him, growing more and more intense as it spread to the surroundings, the red walls of fire surged in all directions, burning the nearby pollen to a crisp.

The mage who had been shot in the shoulder continued to scream in agony, while his two companions, who had just been joking and laughing, suddenly became calm, with no disturbance from the family members, which startled him greatly.

The most terrifying thing was that the soft and cute prey had transformed into the hunter. He still couldn’t understand why an ordinary mage apprentice could be so formidable.

From intentionally leaving clues, to pretending to be unconscious to lower their guard, to destroying the pollen spores, eliminating all unstable elements...

Damn it, they should have realized it earlier; this is not a mage apprentice but a battle-hardened old hunter.

Bang! Bang!

Wayne fired two more shots to make sure the two were really asleep, then turned the gun toward the captive: "Name, gender, whom do you serve, why did you capture me, miss one and I’ll kill you."

"I... I don’t know..."

Bang!

As the words fell, the concrete beside the captive’s ear exploded, stones cutting open his cheek and blood flowed freely, scaring him into continuous screams: "Don’t shoot, don’t kill me, I’ll tell you everything."

Wayne’s gaze was too frightening, and with his two companions bearing witness to his ruthlessness, the captive didn’t dare to play tough and quickly spilled his reasons.

"My name is Wesker, a disciple of the Nature Goddess. My teacher Joy Dobin asked us to investigate you. He wanted to capture you, it has nothing to do with me..."

With a sob in his voice, Wesker pleaded, "That’s all I know, please let me go, I swear I won’t dare again."

Bang!

With an expressionless face, Wayne pulled the trigger and shook his head: "Sorry, I really wanted to let you go, but I don’t want to be a person who breaks his promises, you missed saying your gender."

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Because the other party was named Wesker, Wayne deliberately fired two more shots. He looted the bodies, taking three pistols, and tossed the one in his hand onto a body. He snapped his fingers again and headed back the way he came, toward the main house.

He didn’t like killing; even slaughtering a chicken made him tremble, but if someone dared to come to his doorstep, they shouldn’t blame him for being cruel and ruthless.

Behind Wayne, a wall of earth rose up, the Wind Element brought oxygen, and the Fire Element leaped joyfully.

A mass of Fire Element gathered, raising the temperature inside the wall of earth extremely high, erasing all traces of the three people’s existence in the fastest way possible. Finally, the Water Element surged forward, sweeping up the ashes and sending them into the next door’s drainage.

Earth, fire, water, wind—after one complete cycle, the sewer returned to its former calm, with only three dark stains proving that something had happened here.

...

Outside the main house.

The lookout who had been waiting for a long time without seeing his companions return started the car and left.

With no action for such a long time, something must have happened. He noted the street and house number, took a few detours on the road to make sure no one was following, and then headed to his teacher’s home.

The fog grew dense, and an invisible pair of eyes followed closely behind.

————

Late into the night.

Wayne summoned Ah Bin in the sewer, confirmed his home address, and pondered the possibility of a visit to eradicate the roots.

His own abilities might not suffice, but if he wore the Vest System of the Undead Knight, it wouldn’t be a problem. However, doing so would surely lead people to connect him with the Undead Knight, too risky to consider.

After a moment’s thought, Wayne called his Glamor Lady teacher, and the translation of the conversation went as follows:

Teacher, your student here was attacked by your underling at your house. They all had guns, wailing, I almost didn’t make it to see you again.

Before dawn, Hefei rushed to the main house and headed straight to the basement to find Wayne.

"Are you alright?"

Hefei patted Wayne down, checking if he was in good health and hadn’t been frightened before sighing with relief.

It’s good that the student is unharmed!

"What happened, who were those people, and why are they relentless in pursuing you?"

"I don’t know either. They followed me from the Detective Agency; they were very determined. Three armed men infiltrated the house. According to the captive..."

Wayne recounted the situation as it unfolded, and with emotion in his voice, he said, "His name is Wesker, claims to be a disciple of the Nature Goddess, a student of Joy Dobin, ordered to capture me alive at any cost. Teacher, you must stand up for me. This isn’t just kicking my butt; it’s a slap in your face. They came for you."

Hefei: (눈‸눈♯)

The logic was sound, but the phrasing was off, the metaphor painfully vivid; my face is starting to hurt, don’t make such comparisons next time.

Hefei frowned; she remembered the name Joy Dobin, a student from Sidney, who, after Sidney’s downfall, was purged and currently under house arrest.

According to Wayne, Joy wasn’t the mastermind; Sidney was the one. The latter had discovered Wayne’s identity and wanted to kidnap the student as leverage against the teacher.

But...

Hefei was confident in how well she had concealed things; even her daughter Veronica didn’t know that Wayne was her student. How could Sidney possibly know?

Could that damned scoundrel have told Sidney?

No, that shouldn’t be the case; the scoundrel had no limits, but wouldn’t cross a line like that.

Furthermore, what use would Sidney have for kidnapping her student? Right now, the most important thing for Sidney should be to hide and let everyone overlook his presence.

To kidnap Wayne, especially using his own forces so blatantly, did not fit Sidney’s style at all.

"Wayne, don’t worry, the situation at the Lundan Headquarters is more complicated than you think."
