Chapter 36: Alexander’s Pov: Ah, Am I Too Early?

Upon seeing a few sketches, Alexander smiled. Then he moved to the small closet and opened it. Inside were neatly folded clothes, all simple and practical. A pair of worn shoes sat at the bottom.

Alexander closed the door with a faint sigh, turning his attention to the bed. The thought of Maxim sleeping here, vulnerable and unaware of the world around him, stirred something primal within Alexander.

"I should leave before he returns," Alexander muttered, though his feet refused to move just yet. He could feel his body heat up, imagining Maxim’s sleeping face.

Instead, Alexander sat on the edge of the bed, his fingers tracing the fabric of the blanket. He imagined Maxim here, resting after a long day.

"I wonder what you wear when you sleep... Do you sleep naked or with clothes on?" Alexander whispered, blushing.

Then Alexander snapped out of his nasty thoughts. He slapped his cheeks to wake him up. "What the heck!" he shouted angrily at himself.

Alexander stood up, breathing heavily as he tried to control his desires. A part of him wanted to stay in the room and wait for Maxim to arrive to introduce himself as his potential mate, but his pride wouldn’t let him.

"That’s it! I’m out of here!" Alexander growled. Aggressively, he opened the door to leave but stopped midway. He turned his head toward the bed and slowly walked back.

"Maybe this is enough... for now," Alexander whispered while putting a letter he prepared a few days ago under Maxim’s pillows.

A smirk appeared on Alexander’s lips, thinking about Maxim’s reaction when he found them later.

Alexander took one last glance around the room, his eyes lingering on the small details that spoke of Maxim’s quiet, humble life.

The scent of old books and faint musk scent hung in the air, wrapping Alexander in an unexplainable warmth.

As Alexander stepped out of the room and closed the door behind him, he paused, his hand still on the doorknob. His wolf instincts itched to turn back, to wait for Maxim and claim what he believed was already his.

But Alexander knew better. It wasn’t the right time—not yet.

"Soon," Alexander murmured to himself, his voice carrying a promise. "I’ll make you mine, Maxim. What a great toy you’ll become."

Meanwhile, the letter he left under Maxim’s pillow sat waiting—a simple folded piece of paper carrying words Alexander had agonized over for days.

Later that day, Maxim found the piece of paper, and it sparked nothing but fear in his heart.

On the other side, Alexander smiled upon returning to the Palace and went straight to his bed. He couldn’t help but feel butterflies in his stomach.

Different scenarios played on Alexander’s head, thinking Maxim was rather happy to have a secret admirer.

"Ah, I should create another plan to meet with Maxim, but I don’t want him to know my identity yet," Alexander whispered as he rolled to the side and clutched his pillow tightly.

"How can I make him comfortable around me. I want him to be vulnerable in my presence," Alexander stated while remembering the time he spent with Maxim in the carriage. The memory was still vivid in him of how he felt Maxim’s walls pushing him away.

Instead of sleeping, Alexander had been making several plans about approaching Maxim in another identity, and when the clock struck three in the morning, he finally made a final decision.

"I should become a customer in the bookstore instead!" Alexander exclaimed, putting a check on his list. He felt so excited that when he wanted to sleep, he couldn’t.

Through the rest of the night, Alexander was wide awake with a grin, and when the sun rose in the sky, he immediately fixed himself to go out.

However, a knock disrupted Alexander.

"Ugh, Noa. Not right now," Alexander shouted after smelling Noa’s scent outside his door.

"Your Highness, I’m sorry for waking you up so early, but the council plans to hold another meeting this morning. I just want you to be ready," Noa informed softly outside the door.

Alexander could only pinch the bridge of his nose in frustration. He wanted to clear his plans for the day, but he knew the councils would pester him further the more he postponed the meeting.

"Tell them to wait for me. Get some b^tches to entertain them," Alexander commanded in haste as he wore his white robe.

"Are you going somewhere, Your Highness," Noa asked. He was starting to get curious about the activities of the Crown Prince.

"I will get back to sleep, Noa. So don’t disturb me again," Alexander replied, rolling his eyes.

"Yes, Your Majesty," Noa slightly bowed even though Alexander wouldn’t see it before leaving. He had been standing outside his room for thirty minutes, hoping to catch Alexander from leaving, but failed.

Alexander waited until he couldn’t smell Noa’s scent anymore. His room was close to his office, but he still needed to walk outside the hallway to go there.

"That guy is up to something," Alexander whispered in annoyance. He knew Noa was outside his room for a while but completely ignored him.

Alexander opened his door and quickly went to his office. He made sure not to make a sound like a thief before he got to his destination.

Upon arriving at his office, Alexander didn’t waste time and opened the hidden passage.

"Maxim! Wait for me!" Alexander exclaimed in excitement as he traveled through the hidden passage. He had memorized the path and the street to the bookstore where Maxim worked during the day.

After a few minutes, Alexander stood outside the bookstore, dressed in commoner’s clothes but still looked fancier than the rest.

However, the bookstore was still closed.

"Ah, am I too early?" Alexander sighed, leaning against the wall in disappointment. He thought the bookstore was open for twenty-four hours. He was about to leave and find a place to stay for a while when the door opened.

"Are you looking for something?" an old man asked, peeking through the unlocked door of the bookstore.
