Chapter 35: Alexander’s Pov: The New Toy

Dorian watched as Maxim began to walk while he stayed in his spot. His mission was finally over, and he could finally report to Alexander.

’I should hurry. I know he’s getting impatient,’ Dorian thought with a deep sigh. He had a strong urge to ask Alexander why Maxim, a lowly wolf, was relevant in his life.

Dorian could have used more time as he ran back to the hidden tunnel toward the passage that went directly to Alexander’s office.

When Dorian arrived, the door was already open, and Alexander was standing impatiently.

"You know, you can just mind-link me the result," Alexander stated mockingly after seeing Dorian.

"I think that is not elegant to do, Your Highness," Dorian stated with a slight bow.

"Well then, tell me everything," Alexander raised his eyebrows while tapping his foot to hasten Dorian.

"Yes, Your Highness," Dorian replied and began telling everything. Not a single detail was missed.

Alexander nodded his head, making sure he would remember everything. "Thank you for your hard work, Dorian. You may take a break," he stated before returning to his chair.

"Yes, Your Highness," Dorian replied, eyeing Alexander secretly. He could feel the rage coming out of Alexander’s pores the moment he talked about the guards that hurt Maxim physically.

"You may leave," Alexander said upon seeing Dorian was still in his office.

Dorian slightly bowed again and left the office while silently thinking about what Alexander would do next.

On the other hand, Alexander was pissed.

’How dare that guard touch my mate!’ Alexander hissed in his thoughts. Then he paused for a second.

"No, not mate. A toy! How dare that guard touch my new toy!" Alexander yelled, slamming his hands on the table.

Without hesitation, Alexander called Noa into his office through the mind link.

Noa arrived immediately since he didn’t want to be scolded for being late.

"Your Highness, I have arrived," Noa stated, standing by the door.

"Noa, do you have the files of the guards guarding the Pack’s gate?" Alexander asked, tapping his index finger on the desk.

"The guards... Yes, Your Highness. Do you want me to bring them to you?" Noa asked and was about to leave when Alexander stopped him.

"Hmm, do you know the guards working around this hour?" Alexander asked, remembering there was a rotation on the guards shifts.

"Not quietly, Your Highness," Noa stated timidly, afraid Alexander would get angry at him.

"Hmm, okay. Fire the guards working around these hours and clear my schedule for today. I have something to do," Alexander commanded with no room for discussion.

"But, Your Highness, you have a meeting with the council," Noa insisted since the meeting was important.

"Do I need to repeat myself, Noa?" Alexander replied with his tone firm and commanding.

Noa bit his lips and sighed deeply. "I will inform them, Your Highness," he whispered in defeat.

"You may go," Alexander said. He waited until Noa was out of sight before reaching for his cloak and entering the hidden passage.

A sly smile outlined on Alexander’s lips at the thought that he might see Maxim’s face again.

Using Dorian’s information, Alexander went into the building where Maxim was currently renting.

Alexander fixed his attire before going to the front desk.

"Hello, may I help you? I’m Liam," he introduced himself with a bored smile.

"Ah, Hello Liam. Tell me, which room number is Maxim’s room?" Alexander said directly, as he didn’t want to waste time.

Liam raised an eyebrow. "Sir, we don’t give out room numbers of our renters to... strangers," he explained. He knew the man before him was not one of their tenants.

Alexander sighed. He had expected the rejection already. "Okay," he replied. Then Alexander grabbed something from his pocket and slammed it on the counter. "Will this be enough?" he continued.

Liam’s eyes widened. His shaky hands slowly opened the pouch, revealing the rolls of paper money inside. He gulped and looked straight into Alexander’s figure.

"We don’t..." Liam paused as he stared at the money. He felt as if he was lured into the darkness of greed.

"I won’t offer twice," Alexander stated sternly, leaving no option for Liam.

’Who is this guy?’ Liam thought as he stared at the man before him. With a deep breath, he lowered his body and opened the cabinet containing each room’s spare keys in case there were emergencies.

"Here’s the key to Maxim’s room," Liam informed and slid the key in front of Alexander.

Alexander grabbed the key and felt the cold metal from his gloves. "Don’t tell Maxim about this encounter, or else you might lose your job and your head," he threatened to ensure the silence from Liam’s mouth.

Liam nodded in fear as he quickly grabbed the pouch full of money and hid them under his shirt.

Alexander calmly walked confidently towards Maxim’s room number. ’I don’t smell his scent. He hasn’t arrived yet,’ he thought with a smirk.

Arriving at his destination, Alexander stared at the room. He could smell a very faint scent of Maxim, which approved it was his room.

"I wonder what your room looks like," Alexander muttered as he inserted the keys. He didn’t expect much since he knew the place was for peasants.

Unlocking the door, Alexander stepped into the small, dark room. The first thing he noticed was how modest the space was— barely enough to fit a single bed, a small desk stacked with books, and a tiny closet with its door slightly ajar.

The faint, lingering scent of ink and parchment permeated the air, mingling with the unique trace of Maxim’s scent that Alexander found oddly comforting.

Alexander’s lips curled into a smirk. "Such a simple life," he mused, trailing a gloved hand along the edge of the desk. His fingers paused on an open notebook.

The handwriting was precise and meticulous, filled with notes and what seemed to be sketches of the human body.

"He draws so well," Alexander complimented after flipping a few pages, revealing Maxim’s little hobby.
