Chapter 16: Maxim’s Pov: Royal Bloodline

For Maxim, a mate would only hinder his plans for the future, which was making more money for himself and for his parents.

Maxim had been thinking about it for a while, and based on what he saw around him, especially the mated wolves in the city. The she-wolves often took their mate’s hard-earned money for themselves or would spend it in their pups, which he didn’t mind.

However, Maxim was the sole breadwinner of his family, and his income would sometimes help the other pack members who were in need. He didn’t want another burden and was sure he couldn’t fund his mate or future pups in his current situation.

"Ah, this feels great!" Maxim exclaimed, slamming his hands to the ground. His happiness was bursting out at the thought of him being mateless.

Maxim used the time to celebrate alone. He knew his parents would get hurt if they knew he didn’t want a life partner. He circled around and enjoyed the rain for a few more minutes until he decided to go home.

Tonya was already waiting for him by the door, worried that her son would be depressed by being unable to shift.

Maxim hurriedly removed the smile on his face as he approached Tonya. "Mother," he muttered slowly.

"I’m so sorry, my boy," Tonya sighed deeply, sadness radiating off her pores. He hugged Maxim, ignoring that he was wet.

Maxim didn’t reply and hugged her mother back. Danny appeared from behind and joined his family, hugging them tight.

"It’s going to be okay, Maxim. Maybe you’re a late bloomer and I’m sure you’ll shift into your wolf form sooner or later," Danny stated, trying to comfort Maxim, thinking it was the best words to say at that moment.

However, Maxim hardened upon hearing Danny’s words. "I’m not in a hurry. Besides, I’m young. I’m sure the Moon Goddess has plans for me due to what happened," he replied, showing his bright smile.

Tonya and Danny immediately stiffened and looked at one another. Their devastated face turned into nervousness.

"L-Let’s go inside now," Tonya stated, dragging Maxim to the house and placing him in the bathroom. "Go take a shower and sleep after, okay?"

"Mom... I—" Maxim couldn’t continue his words when Tonya slammed the door in his face. He could feel his parents were hiding something from him, but he shrugged it off.

On the other side, Tonya went straight to Danny, who was drinking a warm glass of milk.

"What do you think is the reason behind this?" Tonya whispered aggressively, pacing back and forth as she overthink the situation.

Danny sighed, staring at his wife. "We should tell him the truth," he stated sternly.

"That is out of the question. He is only eighteen!" Tonya exclaimed, barely keeping her voice silent.

"Yes, but don’t you think Maxim being unable to shift is normal?" Danny asked. He was getting frustrated over his wife’s obsession with keeping the truth from Maxim.

"I-I know it’s not normal, but I don’t think it has something to do with him having a royal bloodline!" Tonya exasperated. For her, Maxim was just an ordinary wolf that lost its title due to war.

"I have a royal blood?" a familiar voice spoke from behind.

Tonya and Danny turned around and saw Maxim looking at them with wide eyes.

"Maxim!" Tonya exclaimed in surprise. She didn’t expect Maxim to return back to the kitchen.

Maxim gave a look of confusion. "I came here because I heard you’re shouting, mom..."

Tonya grasped her mouth and anxiously looked at Danny for help. However, Danny looked away, avoiding her gaze.

"Mom, what do you mean I have royal blood?" Maxim repeated his question, his voice demanding.

Tonya snapped at Maxim. "You don’t question me, young man!" she shouted, wanting to use her dominance to avoid the topic from forwarding.

Maxim glanced at Danny. "Dad, what is going on here?" he asked, but he only got a silent reply.

"Go to your room, Maxim!" Tonya screamed, pointing at Maxim to go away.

Maxim remained still on his spot. He felt the need to hear the rest of the story, but he wouldn’t turn a blind eye to it. "I won’t leave until you tell me the truth," he stated sternly.

"There’s no truth! And you don’t have to join an adult topic. You’re still a child!" Tonya growled. She was starting to get agitated, thinking if Maxim knew the truth, he would leave them altogether.

"I AM EIGHTEEN NOW!" Maxim screamed at the top of his lungs, and his voice growled on its own. A strong dominance poured out of his pores and spread into the roam, which made Danny and Tonya feel suffocated.

It was the first time that Maxim had raised his voice toward them in a negative way. It also shocked him that he did it out of nowhere due to his frustrations.

"I... I didn’t mean it," Maxim calmed down and felt guilty for his behavior.

Tonya started having a panic attack and slowly lost consciousness, but Danny was able to catch her before falling.

"Mom!" Maxim exclaimed, hurriedly running beside Tonya and helping Danny carry her to their bed.

They placed Tonya comfortably and tucked her in. Danny checked her pulse, and after confirming she was fine and was only asleep, he turned his attention to Maxim.

"Let’s talk outside," Danny stated, gesturing for Maxim to follow him.

Maxim hesitated, but he needed to know. He kissed Tonya’s forehead before leaving and followed Danny to the living room.

Danny served Maxim a glass of grape wine he stored for years. "You can finally drink. Taste this one; you’ll need it."

Maxim smiled at his father, nodding. He grabbed the glass and sniffed it, smelling the most flavorful drink he had scented. He didn’t waste time and took a sip. "Wow, I didn’t know you could make wine, Dad."

"Haha, I’m keeping them to drink with you when you turn eighteen, and here we are now," Danny smiled, chugging his own glass. "Now, let’s talk about what your mother just said earlier."
