Chapter 480: 480 was calculated by someone
Ye Jiu wiped away a tear of sympathy for Qin Zhou.
Perhaps, this Qin Zhou was truly more suited for a strife-free farmer’s life. Had he not been switched at birth, he might have become another Fourth Brother.
Somehow naive, somehow blank.
Alas, there are no "what ifs" in this world...
In the grand hall, numerous ribs of Dongyue’s ministry, along with their families, took their seats one after another.
Qin Zhou and several younger brothers naturally sat next to Prince Jing and Princess Consort Jing.
However, when Prince Jing saw Mo Ziqiao next to Princess Consort Jing, his face immediately soured, and his gaze towards Princess Consort Jing also became hostile.
If this had not been a child, Prince Jing would have certainly thrown him out.
Princess Consort Jing became nervous under Prince Jing’s scrutiny, thankfully, he did not explode in anger on the spot.
Actually, Prince Jing was regretting.
Why hadn’t he thought of this tactic?
He knew earlier, instead of having Ye Jiu pretend to be some little servant, he should have just had him pose as his son.
After all, nobody would pay attention to when the Prince suddenly had an additional illegitimate son. As for the Emperor and Empress, they probably didn’t even know how many grandsons they had, so they would be even less likely to notice these minor details.
Initially, it was the princes and grandsons who began the birthday salutations, followed by numerous ministers.
After this segment, it was time for the daughters of these dignities to perform and show their faces.
At the head of the hall, a little eunuch whispered a few words to the old Emperor; the old Emperor’s expression turned somewhat hostile when he looked at Prince Jing.
Halfway through the performances, the old Emperor yawned and spoke, "Indeed, with age, my energy is no longer what it used to be. My dear officials, enjoy yourselves today; I will take my leave first."
The similarly aged Empress immediately stood up, "Indeed, I can’t match the youthfulness of others, I shall accompany His Majesty too."
"Very well," the old Emperor nodded.
However, the Empress’s gaze revealed her worries as she subtly glanced at where Prince Jing was seated.
Just now, the hostile look the old Emperor gave Prince Jing did not escape her notice, and she couldn’t help but worry about her youngest son even more.
Lately, things had not been smooth, and she wondered what the matter was this time.
Not long after the Emperor and the Empress had left, a little eunuch quietly walked over to Prince Jing and whispered a few words, then Prince Jing stood up and followed the little eunuch away.
On the other side, an official dressed in court attire watched Prince Jing’s departing figure and smirked.
Once outside the grand hall, Prince Jing began to inquire, "Eunuch, do you know why Father summoned me?"
"Oh, Your Highness, this servant really doesn’t know," the little eunuch replied with a flattering smile.
Though Prince Jing’s luck had not been very good lately, he was after all, a legitimate and direct descendant; the entire imperial harem was still held in the hands of the Empress, hence no one dared to slight the son of the mistress of the harem.
Inside the imperial study, just as Prince Jing entered, an inkstone flew towards him; he quickly dodged and was immediately followed by the sound of the inkstone smashing against the door.
"You scoundrel, how dare you dodge?" a roar echoed, causing Prince Jing’s body to shudder.
But he was not frightened.
He stepped forward a few steps and carelessly sat down on a nearby chair before speaking, "Father really does have a vicious heart, throwing an inkstone out of the blue. If your son hadn’t had some skills, he might have needed the Imperial Physician by now."
"Look at you now, what a state!" the old Emperor disdained.
Prince Jing then straightened up and adjusted his expression, "What now? I’ve scarcely left my quarters lately, how have I provoked you again?"
Since childhood, while all the other princes were busy competing, Prince Jing had alone been making trouble and causing mischief.
