Chapter 535: 184. Punishment that ended before it started_3
"Let’s get down to business."
Old Edward took out a handkerchief and wiped the wine from his fingers.
He stopped laughing and spoke his news without interest. Without a façade, he plainly said:
"The mobilization of the Psychic Hunter troop wasn’t an order from the high-level of the Circle Tower, but the personal decision of the Energy Shaper, or perhaps I should refer to him as the ’former Energy Shaper,’ because on the second day they set off, the Circle Tower imposed a blockade on the White Cliff territory.
I received news that there seems to have been an internal war among the psychics.
I don’t know the details of the combat.
But I assume His Majesty King Louis will soon receive an apology that will bring him joy, and one of the three towers of the Circle Tower, the Energy Shaping Tower, may be welcoming a new Energy Shaper, and a cruel purge that can strike fear into vampires like us.
The psychics seem united.
But their internal struggles are much more naked, like a group of power-holding beasts ripping each other apart, always accompanied by mass executions, they kill their own in a more vicious manner than when they slaughter others and call it the ’necessary cost’ of pursuing ’truth’...
So who is the real villain?"
Upon saying this, the Duke of Wolf Poison stood up.
He brought good news to the furious marshal to soothe him, but received a piece of bad news in return. This made Old Edward lose the mood to continue playing riddles with Marshal Loren.
The Duke of Wolf Poison courteously bid farewell:
"Anyway, my advice to you is to not overwork the warriors of the Old Imperial Guard. Perhaps you will soon return to the battlefield you’ve been longing for, since the Black Disaster of this magnitude will need an excellent commander like you to resist.
I’ll send out the elites from my family to join the Black Disaster. The ambitious Grey Claw faction eager to demonstrate their power has already set off as vanguards to Transylvania.
I hope you can use them well.
Of course!
Using them as cannon fodder is also fine.
I don’t like that ambitious descendant of mine. He worship strength but despised wisdom, and has no dignity of a midnight noble!
Sigh, what a fool. He reminds me of myself when I was young. I originally trained him because he reminded me of myself, but the problem is, he is too similar..."
Said Old Edward, taking his top hat and staff, and putting on his monocle to bid farewell to Marshal Loren. He left the mansion, boarded the black carriage, and disappeared into the night.
Marshal Loren received the news about the Circle Tower. He did not think it was deceit by Old Edward. That cunning Duke of Wolf Poison knew when to tell the truth. In other words, the punishment for the Circle Tower had ended before it even began.
"Hm..."
Marshal Loren lit a pipe and blew a ring of smoke.
In the dim evening light outside the window, he thought to himself:
"That’s good, the kingdom needs unity, and the head of an Energy Shaper should be enough to placate the rage of a dwarf being used."
With that in mind, the marshal summoned his serving Silver Dwarf Priest. At his command, an ultra long-distance psychic communication was delivered to the Pioneer Fortress within ten minutes, which was faithfully received by Major Fraser.
"You arrange it."
The marshal said to the psychic projection maintained by two Earth Priests:
"I want to talk with the Lord of Transylvania tomorrow."
"Yes, sir...oh, no, Your Excellency Marshal!"
Major Fraser saluted.
As to why he, who was thousands of miles away, was so quickly aware of Marshal Loren’s promotion – that’s not surprising,
The Cape family is one of the three ancient nobles in the Kingdom of West Lan, authoritative in the Golden Flower Kingdom. As a resolute royalist heir, Major Fraser was held by His Majesty King Louis when he was born.
"Take a vacation after this."
Marshal Loren blew a smoke ring, telling the young man he valued greatly:
"The Black Disaster is less than six months away. I give you a two-month holiday. Settle your life-changing events and then return to the Pioneer Fortress to report. Major Fraser, I bet your family has paved the way for you.
So, if you can survive the Black Disaster and accomplish a few more merits, I might have to call you ’Brigadier’ Sir. Do I need to prepare a wedding gift for the Cape family?"
"Please don’t joke like that, Marshal."
Major Fraser shook his head:
’The country is in crisis, and the Black Disaster threatens the entire continent. In the face of such huge events, my personal honors, and life-changing events are unimportant.
I have sent a letter to my father.
I won’t settle down unless Black Disaster has ended. This is my vow to the country and His Majesty. I believe my father will understand me."
"But young people should experience love..."
Marshal Loren wanted to persuade him further, however, Major Fraser was a bit anxious. He didn’t want to discuss the issue and answered in a rush:
"I see you as my idol, Marshal. You aren’t in a hurry to sort out your life, why should I rush?"
"Hm?"
The half-dwarf nearly choked on the smoke.
He glared at Major Fraser, and chided:
"Get to work! Don’t meddle in adult affairs!"
After saying this, the psychic communication was cut off. A few minutes later, the Silver Dwarf Priest who had accompanied Marshal Loren tugged at his hood and muttered to Marshal Loren:
’You have to go back to Silver Fort, Little Loren. The Supreme Lord and your cousin, Rivrosa, are waiting for you."
"By Gaia above! By the life of a dwarf, my cousin is still underage!"
Marshal Loren covered his eyes in pain.
He murmured a rebuttal, but the old priest rolled his eyes and took out a dwarf pipe, placed it in his mouth, and prolonged his voice to say:
"But by human standards, your cousin is already an old maid. You can’t let her wait too long! Besides, it’s not a forced match since you both have feelings for each other."
"Can you guys stop pushing me, please? I’m begging you."
The marshal rubbed his throbbing temples, and he sighed:
"I have a responsibility to my country and my king, so at least until the Black Disaster is over..."
"But you said the same before the Ten Years War started!"
"I promise this time! I will for sure!"
