Chapter 488: 169. Damn! Has the team battle in this ghost game always been this exciting? _1
"Report! Communication with squad number 60, using psychic powers, has just been lost. They are suspected to have been attacked and wiped out!"
A straight forward report, laced with faint fear and obedience, interrupted the thoughts of the senior psychic, who had been studying a spell book and preparing for battle with psychic imprinting skills. This prompted the lady, clad in a white psychic robe, to look up.
She was wearing a crown designed to stabilize the mind during spellcasting, and there were some intricate and mysterious red tattoos on her face.
They were like special tattoos.
This slightly eccentric getup was one of the hallmarks of a high-ranking psychic, a technique that the psychics of the Circle Tower learned from the Silver Dwarfs. These psychic tattoos could effectively enhance the psychic’s control over spells, improve their perception in a certain psychic field, and even enhance a certain special spell.
They were incredibly useful, albeit with some side effects.
The stronger the psychic of the Circle Tower, the more tattoos they had. So when they went shirtless, they could easily be mistaken for small calamari with tattoos on their shoulders.
The premise was, of course, that these decorum-conscious psychic masters would truly appear shirtless.
The other senior psychics were also alarmed by this news. They exchanged glances before finally, the female psychic commander in charge of 600 psychic hunters asked:
"Where were they deployed?"
"The sixth battalion was at the border of East Prussia and the Andma Hills. They were positioned as rear patrolmen to prevent any scattered witch hunters from breaking through the battlefield after the blocking battle."
The psychic hunter battalion commander, wearing light hunting armor, reported respectfully:
"Therefore, it’s unlikely that they were wiped out by the witch hunters. Rather, I suspect that reinforcements have appeared near the Andma Hills for the White Oak Battle Group, perhaps from Transylvania."
"What? You mean to say the witch hunters and vampires from the Land of Darkness are working together? Are you trying to insult the intelligence of a psychic?"
The female commander spoke with an icy tone:
"It’s just as ludicrous as Light and Darkness suddenly shaking hands and making peace at this moment. While it’s true these remnants of the old religion might have reinforcements, vampires are always the least likely. Send two patrol squadrons to the area that squad 60 was responsible for to investigate. I need a detailed mission report."
"Yes, Commander!"
The Black Iron Rank psychic hunter battalion commander dared not argue with the senior psychic before him. He took several steps back, was about to mobilize his troops by reaching for the standard model Psychic Treasure Bead hanging around his neck, but then suddenly stood still.
"What is it now?"
The high-ranking psychic holding her spell book asked impatiently. The battalion commander immediately reported with an odd expression:
"Two more patrol squads have lost contact, almost simultaneously! They were deployed entirely within East Prussia territory, so we can deduce that the enemy reinforcements from behind us are advancing towards our location! Commander."
"The number of enemies is unknown.
But to wipe out three of our squads within a 3-minute time difference, even if they are only rookies, signifies that the enemy is either very numerous or has a high-ranking power user."
"What a dark night, a disgusting night that vampires celebrate and which everyone walking in the sun should despise... It’s never been friendly to us."
The female psychic finally realized the severity of the situation.
She and several similarly dressed senior psychics behind her, each with different tattoos on their faces, had a quiet discussion. She turned back to the battalion commander and said:
"Immediately mobilize your entire battalion to support the sixth battalion. My companion, Kami, and his four disciples, will assist you! Hold off those stupid reinforcements until the front-line interception is over."
"Yes, Commander!"
The fifth battalion commander immediately gathered his hundred psychic hunters to prepare for departure.
These "psychic hunters" were the Circle Tower’s "new experiment" with the Art of War during the Ten Years War, similar to the old soldier Porter’s disdainful snub. The inspiration for the psychic hunters clearly came from the systems of the Avalon Church and the witch hunters.
And indeed, it did.
The psychic hunters shared too many similarities with witch hunters. The main difference was that witch hunters relied on the enhancement of Natural Psychic Power to become stronger, while psychic hunters could receive enhancement from almost all psychic fields. This made them much more flexible and able to grow faster than their "original professional template," the witch hunters.
However, because psychic hunters were a new career that had just emerged less than seven years ago, their systems were not perfect. Moreover, the Circle Tower trained large numbers of psychic soldiers for the first time, which didn’t make them as brilliant as the witch hunters in real battles.
But their advantage was in numbers, or rather, the Circle Tower created them to be used as "cannon fodder."
Just like this interception operation, the Circle Tower easily dispatched six battalions, a total of six hundred psychic hunters, for six high-ranking psychics in charge of the interception.
It was a clear testament to their wealth.
Moreover, a deep interpretation of the word "dispatch" reveals that it is a simplified version of the command "I don’t want casualty numbers, I just want the White Oak Battle Group wiped out."
"Report! White Oak Battle Group scouts have been spotted ahead! Our vanguard has already made contact with them. There are about 50 enemy scouts, suggesting that their main force has already left the Pioneer Fortress."
