Chapter 428: 149. Stinking foreign vampires! Have you come to beg in our Transylvania? _1
"Ah, Bata Sin, the starting point of my career as a businesswoman... I’m back again."
The carriage bearing the Cardman Earl’s seal slowly moved towards the silhouette of the city in the distance. Inside the carriage, Miss Blanche Paleen Feido gazed at the unimpressive scenery ahead with a profound sense of nostalgia.
Even though just over two months had passed since her last visit to this small border town in Transylvania, it felt as if a lifetime had elapsed.
The ups and downs of life had made this savvy businesswoman as melancholic as a daughter from a rich family. However, born in the harsh cold of Ice Bay, she grew up amidst migrations and hardships and quickly adjusted her mood, focusing her mind on the significant task she was about to undertake.
Here, she would negotiate a series of preliminary agreements with the Northerners’ smugglers and ultimately facilitate a major trade deal between the Earl and the occupying army of the Nordtof Winter Wolves.
This business venture would determine whether the Cardman Earl’s territory could survive the upcoming winter and also decide her own future under his lordship.
Although she was nearing forty, Miss Pailian’s ambitions were reawakened by Murphy’s "evil sorcery".
As a pure-blooded Nord, she could live to be one hundred and forty under normal circumstances. She wished to have all that she had desired in her youth by age eighty, and to accumulate sufficient wealth to change the caste and life of her two tall and elegant daughters before she aged.
And she had forty years left...
Perhaps she could give it a go, compensating for the unremarkable first half of her life!
"I’ll need to meet with Old Bird first, and then under his recommendation meet the person behind his small trading group. Probably isn’t anyone important - possibly a minor power-holding officer from the Nordtof border army.
But by this line, maybe we can connect with the occupying army at Klim Fortress, and then make a quick trip to the Dark Female Baron’s territory to complete the mine trade.
If all goes well, it should be settled in a month and a half.
By then, it will be the beginning of late autumn, and a massive amount of food can be continuously brought back."
The businesswoman in the carriage twisted the knight’s ring on her finger. Her shrewd mind, incompatible with her robust and curvy physique, was continuously spinning, repeatedly evaluating her next actions, until the convoy entered not-so-large but bustling border town thirty minutes later.
Bata Sin was once a small town among various small principalities within the Posya Confederation, but its location is very significant.
To the east, it borders the rich Kakhovka Plains. Heading north for two days, you can cross the Count Cico border to reach the Ice Bay boundary, and to the south is the Cardman Earl’s territory.
This town is the intersection of these three regions and has been an important trading ground in the Transylvania region for more than a hundred years, especially for traders from the north, who often conduct most of their business activities here.
Although it’s small, due to its geographical location, the Blood Vulture Clan station a force of armed Blood Servants and a few elite vampires year-round.
Unfortunately, in the Ten Years’ War, the stationed Blood Servant army was sent to the frontlines on the plains east of Kavkhoka. By now, they should have been disarmed by the Nordmen.
"Let’s rest at the ’Horseshoe’ Inn first. I need to prepare for meeting the guest."
Miss Pailian instructed her guards and carriage driver, and the procession turned towards the inn. Several moments later, at the stoic, simple doorway of the ’Horseshoe’ Inn, she handed over the ’task’ to the Earl’s warriors who had escorted her along the way.
She handed a bag of gold coins to the leading Wumeioge and thanked him:
"Your performance along the way was perfect, very very professional. Worthy of the Earl’s most trusted warriors. When I’ve established an official merchant group for the Earl, I hope you’ll be part of defending the trade group."
"Yo, are you implying that there will be a trading play in the future?"
Wumeioge blinked, his mind spinning quickly. He then replied to the sturdy and curvy NPC before him with a standard Blood Vulture salute:
"Of course, Knight Pailian, we will do everything we can for Earl Cardman’s great cause. Please take care of your safety; we will stay here for a day and a night. If any issue arises, contact us through the Calculating Pearl.
Your safety is our very important task."
"Very well. But I also have many friends here. Actually, my birthplace is not far from here. Alas, the war has already razed my hometown in Ice Bay."
The talkative businesswoman laughed heartily, then her face filled with regret. She bid the players farewell and entered the inn managed by a distant uncle from her birth village.
The players didn’t go in; their escort mission was over, but they had more important tasks to do.
"Hey, a total of five Posya gold coins and seventy-eight silver coins. Let’s split them up."
Wumeioge threw the money bag to No Hands Needed to Show Off.
His cousin already was the accountant in his team and quickly divided up the reward money. Lead Dove, looking at the trembling coins in his hand, couldn’t help but complain:
"I didn’t realize when we were wandering in the ruins before, but the game money is actually quite valuable. We ran for two days and each person only earned a few dozen silver coins... Fuck, I have to spend five silver coins on an apple at the ruin line!"
