Chapter 422: 147. Gan Lin’s Thorn Clan! So, you’re kicking someone when they’re down and undermining them, right? _1
Murphy soon received the report from his loyal and brave little players.
This once again affirmed his satisfaction with the practicality of using the Calculating Pearl of Spiritual Energy, a testament to science and technology being essential in any world. But the report written by Meow Brother failed to lift his spirits.
"Traces of other vampire clans in Transylvania? And they’re secretly recruiting the Blood Vulture rebels. What on earth are they trying to achieve? Are they planning to kick us while we’re down and take advantage of our disarray? Ha, just like true vampires.
They are incredibly well-versed in the art of internal strife."
Murphy stood up and scoffed. He was not surprised about the other clans taking advantage of their predicament. Having dealt with headhunters during his days as a high-ranking corporate drone, he was familiar with this "high-end business warfare" approach of wholesale poaching from a competing brand’s talent pool as the first step.
However, as a newbie vampire, his understanding of the other clans was limited to the Wolf Poison Clan he had fought with, and the Blood Covenant Knight Order that had assisted him.
For the current predicament, he would need to consult the worldly wise Cui Si.
Murphy stepped out of his office and knocked on the door of the neighboring room.
Indeed, the offices of the Blood Vulture Duke and the Earl of Cardman were that close. But to his surprise, the Blood Vulture Duke who was supposed to be working at this time had mysteriously "disappeared"...
"Sigh..."
The vampire lord felt tired in his heart.
Having a supervisor who liked to skip work was frustrating, and it was even more frustrating that he had fallen for such a headache of a woman.
But what could he do at this point?
Murphy shut his eyes, connected with the vision of the Blood-Drinking Spirit Vulture Refuno, and soon found an idling Cui Si in a remote corner outside the ruins of Cardman City.
As expected, the worthless Golden Stage vampire duke was hiding at the top of an abandoned tower, enjoying her wine and the view, with a few snacks by her side, clearly in high spirits.
"Swish"
With the flapping of wings closing, the ferocious Blood-eating Spirit Vulture landed next to a tipsy Cui Si, immediately catching her attention.
Seeing that she’d been found by Murphy’s "eyes," Cui Si quickly got up and was about to escape through a reddish, spiritual energy transfer portal, but an arrow arrived the next second, tearing the portal apart.
With his giant bat wings folded, Murphy, grim-faced, landed at the edge of the tower, returning his luxurious and delicate Crossbow to his waist.
"Hehe"
Cui Si let out forced laughter and hid her half-finished bottle of wine behind her.
She thought she might be berated again by Murphy, but he went straight to the point.
"The Blood Vulture territory has been invaded, Your Grace. This is something you should be dealing with," said the Vampire Lord.
Murphy projected the spiritual energy image attached to his player’s report onto his palm. Pointing at a badge, he asked, "This is the emblem of the Thorn Clan, right?"
"Hmm, the Night Thorn, also known as the Vampire Vine, is indeed the symbol of the Blood Thorn Clan. Considering ’Blood Thorn Clan’ is a bit awkward to say, people started to call them the Thorn Clan a long time ago."
Cui Si threw in a bit of vampire clan history for her vampire lord husband.
She didn’t treat this as a big deal. Leaning casually against the tower, she casually said, "Thorn Clan’s territory is beneath the White Mountain on the southern border of the Nordtoff Kingdom, quite a distance from Transylvania. But it’s not surprising they are sneaking into our area to rally rebels at this time.
After all, the Thorn Clan are the losers of the ancient conflict over the Holy Blood. After their defeat, they were banished from the fertile central land and could only eke out a miserable existence on the Nord’s lands. The founding of the Nordtoff Kingdom made things a bit better for them. It was said that the Thorn Clan had served the descendants of the heroic King Boris in the Nord’s war to conquer the wilderness.
If anything, out of all the clans, the Thorn Clan has the closest and most peaceful relationship with human civilization, but they also harbour the deepest hatred for other vampire clans.
Their ancestral edict was to reclaim everything they lost in the Holy Blood conflict.
So, employing rebels from other clans for revolt is something the Thorn Clan relishes doing. Their clan seems cursed in the sense that each patriarch dies tragically young - none have lived peacefully past 300 years.
I remember when I was in my prime, they had just elected their fourth female duke. What was her name? Sofia?
Or was it Mary?
Oh yes, it was Sofie!
She was one of my close knit circle of friends."
"The Holy Blood Conflict, that was 800 years ago, correct?" Murphy asked with a furrowed brow.
"The Blood Vulture library seems to have sparse records about this event and merely mentions it as the first major conflict between the seven vampire clans, right?"
"Who taught you your blood race history?" Cui Si responded, rolling her eyes in correction.
"Six clans! The Mad Blood Clan was sealed in the Crimson Holy Land deep within the Dark Mountain Range long before the era began. That place is the Origin Land of all vampires. The Blood Covenant Knight Order patrols continuously around the Dark Mountain Range just to guard that sacred blood seal.
With the lead of Lord Pa Ying, every hundred years, the patriarchs of the other five clans have to go back to the bloody Origin Land and reinforce the seal. It’s a huge event for the entire vampire race."
