Chapter 381: 133. Don’t Mess with Women from Transylvania _1
"You tell me, how has a commoner like me, someone with no surname, suddenly become the Crimson Regent of Cardman City? Also ended up as a female baroness with her own territory, huh?"
Miss Milian, who had undergone significant changes in her life, looked at the Crimson Regent’s seal in her hand and the writ of baronetcy in the other.
It still felt surreal for a moment.
Despite both items genuinely existing in her possession.
Starting tonight, the area of Morlan village where she was born and the five neighboring villages became her territories.
Some people might resent it, but the seal on her document bearing the Blood Vulture Duke’s insignia held significant sway in Transylvania. As long as the Blood Vulture Clan remained here for a day, she would be the one who called the shots!
Thinking of this, Milian couldn’t help but clutch the document tightly.
A sense of excitement welled up in her heart.
At a tender age of 24, she had already leapfrogged her peers’ careers by at least forty years or at most two generations.
Unfortunately, with both her parents deceased and few friends to speak of, she didn’t quite know who to share her joy with.
"Tsk, feels like I’ve sold myself for these two worthless objects..."
In the quiet night under the city, Miss Milian made a somewhat Versailles-style evaluation of her just-made decision.
Then, she took a deep breath, removed a modest box from her Spiritual Energy packet, opened it, took out a somewhat dull silver-white bracelet, and peered at it.
"Mom, I made it!"
Milian stared at the bracelet reflecting a beautiful halo under the moonlight. After a few seconds, she placed this only memento from her mother against her forehead and uttered with a sob:
"Finally, I’ve made my mark! Although not vastly successful yet, I’ve fulfilled half of your wish before you passed away. If you can see this, please share this joy with me."
"I say, is the Transia People’s way of worshiping ancestors to pray casually anywhere? Miss, next time before you express your sentiments to your mother, maybe first check if anybody else is around, shall we?"
A somewhat familiar voice brimming with a bit of embarrassment echoed from Milian’s side, startling the red-haired lady to her feet.
As she turned around, an extra crimson pistol appeared in her hand.
This was a weapon that Sir Morphy had given her for self-defense from Adel.
With the barrel of the gun pointed at him, Major Fraser reluctantly raised his hands. He disregarded the imminent threat and calmly explained:
"I’m leaving here tomorrow afternoon and have to finish writing my investigative report tonight. Your celebrations were so loud that I had to find a quiet place to type. Technically, I found this place first.
So, the one who got disturbed is not you, Miss Milian."
"As expected, the Golden Flower Kingdom is full of cunning folks like you."
Milian huffed, put away her gun, and bent down to pick up the object that had fallen to the ground while Major Fraser gentlemanly advanced to assist her.
However, when he saw that bracelet, Major’s forehead furrowed slightly.
This pattern...
Seems familiar.
As an intelligence worker, Major Fraser did not express surprise.
He examined the bracelet that he picked from the ground, memorizing its pattern, then handed it back to Milian, along with the Crimson Regent’s seal in his other hand, jokingly saying:
"It appears that Sir Morphy recognized your potential and decided to employ you, if I’m not mistaken. You hold a writ of baronetcy, don’t you? Such an old design. I vaguely remember encountering similar scripts in our family library. Its style dates back 400 years.
So, what should I address you as now? Lady Milian?"
"Whatever you want. I’m in a good mood today and won’t stoop to your level."
Milian had no shred of goodwill towards this man who once tried to cause trouble in a camp she was managing. Still, their shared history as schoolmates kept her from lashing out, leaving her to only react with a cold face.
However, maybe because Major Fraser was about to leave, he seemed highly conversational tonight. He made a ’please’ gesture and asked Milian:
"I am heading back to the camp. Would you like to accompany me? It’s quite unfitting for a lady to walk alone under this evening veil. I’ve heard that vampires are a species that highly values etiquette, but it appears there’s been some misinformation in my recent observation."
"That’s probably because you’ve selected the wrong subjects for your observation."
Milian casually replied:
"Sir Morphy and the Grand Duke of Cui Si are not ’normal’ vampires, but Miss Phemys is the most gracious of all the ladies I’ve seen, she’s quite exemplary.
Mind you, your timing wasn’t great.
By the way, Major, you’re not the type to get flustered around ladies, so why the sudden attentiveness tonight?
Did you notice my change in status and realized I would be taking on a more important role under Sir Morphy, so you decided to build good relations with me in advance so you can extract information in the future?"
"You truly are a wise lady. I cannot refute my intentions."
Fraser let out a soft laugh.
He glanced at the baron’s writ in Milian’s hand and said:
"There is another reason: while the Cape Family has been rooted in Anju region for over 300 years, our ancestors were once an Earl in Transylvania and one of the initial 134 nobles of the Posya Confederation,
