Chapter 363: 127. So, does opening blind boxes fall under this game’s unique gameplay? _1

Murphy is planning to hold a celebration tonight in the ruins of Cardman City.

The reason is to celebrate that the survivors of Cardman City have finally made it through the toughest times, that the sufferings on this land are finally over, and that new life is just around the corner.

Of course, an important part of the celebration is to commemorate those unfortunate souls who were lost in the city’s disaster. Although not all the missing persons have been confirmed dead, to be frank, those numerous ordinary people who were swept into the Star Realm are indeed unlikely to have survived in that mysterious different dimension.

According to Cui Si, if you throw an unprepared Gold Stage individual into the Star Realm, it’s hard to say whether they could survive a week...

It’s a place completely different from the material world, with a set of distinct environment and rules. Even a Spiritual Overlord like Cui Si has limited understanding of that place, but the understanding she has so far is enough to make a regrettable judgment.

For example, Cui Si made it clear to Murphy that the spatial and time mapping in parts of the Star Realm is jumbled. Just this single fact could be enough to kill 99% of the life forms from the material world.

But these are not the problems Murphy needs to worry about now, especially not tonight!

He must fulfill his duty as a Lord, not only to protect the physical safety of his citizens, but also to cater to their spiritual needs.

The night grows dark, at the time of dusk.

Under the guidance of the camp guards, the sturdy survivors start to move the long tables made by carpenters into the cleaned-up city square in the outer city.

The cooks in the camp, led by the head cook Franks Shawn, have been bustling here since the afternoon. They set up large pots found by players in the city, cooking meat jerky, beans, wild fruits, and high-end spices found in the ruins of restaurants. This is the free food that will be provided to everyone at tonight’s celebration.

It smells good, but the texture can only be said to be barely satisfactory.

However, considering this is all provided for free, one shouldn’t ask for too much.

Some apprentice chefs are preparing grilled fish on the side. These fish were caught just this morning by fishermen in the camp from a nearby river. This delicacy is considered a "special allocation" in the day-to-day camp life and is traded in exchange for labor points. Tonight, it also comes for free.

But only half a fish per person.

The Captain of the Gatherers, the big-bellied woman Palian Feder is directing her girls to wash berries gathered from the woodland in large barrels and then place them in bamboo baskets on the long tables.

These will serve as side dishes for tonight’s celebration.

Further away, some young members of Maxim’s Cardman Self-Defense Force, are leading their donkeys loaded with barrels of "strategic resources" i.e. alcohol from the basement under the defensive line and transporting them to the square.

It’s just ordinary alcohol.

But under the current circumstance, the sight of it is enough to stir desire in many alcohol lovers, who are following the carts, chortling and offering their help.

Murphy has decided to hold tonight’s celebration as a buffet to include as many people as possible. This is the most efficient method. It’s not his original idea; this form of celebration is common in Transylvania. Therefore, the survivors in the camp, under the guidance of the elders, were quite proficient in preparing for it.

Miss Milian announced in the camp at noon that there would be no labor required in the afternoon and evening. Therefore, even before the celebration has officially started, there are already people everywhere in the city ruins.

Some are helping in the square, while some kids are running and playing carefreely among the crowd, other ones in groups have made their way to their former residences to place a crude candle in the ruins to commemorate the bygone days.

Laughter and cries once again resonate in this dusk, leaving Murphy, who is standing on the collapsed city wall watching this scene, somewhat speechless.

"There used to be 150,000 people in Cardman City..."

Next to him, fully armored Maxim lifted his visor, and said with a sigh in an emotional tone:

"And now there are only this many left."

"But they’re still alive!"

Murphy, with his hand on the hilt of the Necessary Evil hanging on his waist, quietly said:

"So, this is something worth celebrating. Escaping a deadly fate is the greatest fortune. Whether they like it or not, they must shoulder the hopes of those departed and continue to live here. They need to rebuild the city, our hometown."

Maxim nodded.

He trusts Murphy’s words completely, and at the moment he is also feeling somewhat nervous and excited because after tonight’s celebration, it will be his time to complete his initial embrace.

From now till midnight, it will be his last time to stroll on this land as a human.

"Go, say goodbye to them, bid farewell to human life."

Murphy said.

Maxim grunted and turned to leave, Murphy reminded him:

"Don’t wear your armor and don’t care about your face. Go proudly. They all know you and know your name, they’ve heard of your fighting and saving of people in the city. You’re their protector; you deserve the respect.

Other people may call you a monster, but you shouldn’t think of yourself as such."

"Don’t worry, Sir."

Maxim answered while walking down the city wall:
