"Makes sense, let’s rest for a while then head out for reconnaissance."

The old knight had also expended a substantial amount of spiritual energy when exterminating those ghosts earlier.

Though he had the advantage of a higher ranking, his own exhaustion was all too real, so he did not object to Murphy’s suggestion.

He took out several pieces of wood near the underground river’s edge, casually summoned the flame of purification, creating a simple campfire with ease.

But then, under the incredulous gaze of the old knight, Murphy, who as a vampire should abhor light, audaciously flew over and landed opposite to him. He then took out some pre-prepared "bento boxes" and began to heat them on the campfire.

As the aroma of food filled the air, Old Feinock wore an even stranger expression.

He asked,

"Did...Did you make this yourself?"

"What? Haven’t seen a vampire who’s as good a cook as me?"

Murphy laughed, tossing a few boxes to the old knight, saying,

"I specially prepared vegetarian meals, feel free to eat, no poison in them."

"I believe you. No one would be so foolish to poison a senior member of the Avalon Church. Thanks to being naturally protected, we can resist the majority of animal and plant toxins. In fact, if your poison mix was creative enough, I might even compliment its unique flavor."

Feinock said quietly, following Murphy’s example, placed these boxes on the fire for heating, then filled his own oak helmet with river water from the side, purifying the underground water source with natural psychic energy.

Then he saw Murphy on the other side of the fire, swiftly peeling fruit to make a salad for himself.

After gazing for a dozen seconds, and upon seeing Murphy ceremoniously take out a wooden fork, he couldn’t help but say,

"Murphy, you really don’t seem like a vampire, in so many ways. Before Cui Si first embraced you, were you a human cook? Or perhaps an excellent traveller?"

"Oh my, those things seem like a lifetime ago, let me think."

Murphy held up a plate, put the mixed fruits into his mouth with a wooden spoon, chewing and reminiscing,

"I was born in a small town in Southern East Prussia, bordering the Kato area, in a minor noble family. We had a decent estate with a windmill. My parents wanted me to grow up in the classical noble lifestyle. When I grew up, they wanted me to join the Bourbon Military Academy in the Golden Flower Kingdom for a future."

Then...

The vampire popped a nut in his mouth, mumbling,

"The Ten-year War broke out! Suddenly, all the plans evaporated. The church rebels invaded East Prussia, father moved the family to the Posya Confederation but unfortunately, we encountered a gang of Wolf People bandits on the road."

Ha, a specialty of Transylvania.

That night was truly desolate, and for the first time in my life, I became a deserter amidst the cries of my family.

The memory after that is vague.

I remember following a group of refugees heading east, settling in Cardman City, being bullied by the outer city gangs, doing odd jobs to feed myself, and being captured by hunger in a certain winter, heading to join my parents amidst the laughter of death.

Cui Si saved me.

To this day I don’t know why she saved me, but after that, she became my only family."

"It sounds like you’re talking about someone else’s story."

The old knight whispered,

"It seems the past isn’t something you treasure or remember. Besides, I want to warn you, you’re being affected by the bloodline covenant! You have an abnormal intimacy toward Cui Si, the chronic problem of vampires is eroding your will.

This will make you like one of the loyal dogs at Cui Si’s feet, begging for praise."

"Don’t pry into my matters with Cui Si, it’s none of your business and don’t try to sow discord! Let’s talk about you."

Murphy turned his eyeballs, opened the heated lunch box, held up a steaming hot pork chop rice, staring at the old knight across from him, he sounded slightly unhappy,

"Don’t you know the rules? As I’ve shared my story, you should do the same. That’s only fair."

"There’s not much to tell about my story, just your story stretched tenfold, especially life after turning sixty, all just repetitive and dull, until a surprise comes along one day."

Old Feinock chuckled, opened his own lunch box and scooped up a serving of fragrant mixed vegetable stew, started eating heartily.

The appetite of a strong warrior is always as unstoppable as their strength, quickly devouring two servings. The old knight wiped his mouth satisfactorily, pulling out a wooden bottle from his spiritual energy bag.

After taking a sip himself, he tossed it to Murphy.

The vampire disdainfully wiped the mouth of the bottle before pouring himself a drink.

It wasn’t the strong liquor that Cui Si liked, but a fragrant fruit wine that tasted like a sweet and sour beverage.

"What you really want to ask is the question from before, isn’t it? About my relationship with Natalie."

In the flickering flames, the old knight pulled out a dwarfish-style pipe, filled it with some high-quality Char tobacco, lit it on the edge of the fire, and said softly amidst the swirling smoke,

"Alright, she’s my daughter... "

"Cough, pfft!"

Murphy immediately choked, beating his chest hard and taking a big gulp of fruit wine to recover his breath.
