Chapter 280: 99. The desire to work extremely hard and the constraints of time have become the main contradiction at this stage [39/60]_2

They formed a circle around the weakened Kudell.

Miss could clearly see the fear on these civilians’ faces, but they didn’t retreat, instead circling steadfastly around the Civilian Protection Officer.

This was a rare scene.

Especially in Transylvania, which had been poisoned by vampires for 400 years, it was rare to see civilians, other than the Blood Servants, actively protect a high-ranking vampire. Knowing her brother as Phemys did, she knew that Kudell hadn’t had a real Blood Servant in the hundred or so years since he was first embraced.

He deeply resented the vampire culture of servitude.

Therefore, these civilians weren’t protecting him out of loyalty or admiration in this critical moment.

These civilians, who aren’t soldiers, were gripping their crude weapons and trembling in front of Miss, a real vampire. Their hearts were pounding, a tangible fear that couldn’t be hidden from Miss’s eyes.

But under her gaze, those weak civilians still formed a wall with their bodies, while the young women behind them clumsily dragged the nearly unconscious Kudell, the Civilian Protection Officer, towards the warehouse.

But Kudell himself resisted and refused to go.

"Go back! All of you! I will protect you!"

The non-stop, ten-day-long battle had pushed him to his limit.

Now he weakly waved his hand and reprimanded the disobedient people within his confused thoughts.

He was a Civilian Protection Officer of the Blood Vulture Clan, that was his duty, and before he fell, the weak ones he protected should not join the battle.

"Get back!"

The clamor of reprimands increased with the growing crowd emerging from the warehouse. Even Happy Stick and Wumeioge saw women grasping frying pans join the "guardian army."

Even without Miss’s orders, the little gamers voluntarily sheathed their weapons.

"We’ve entered the scenario..."

Lumina said to Little Wei Ming beside her:

"I really admire this game! Making the cutscenes so realistic every time, it feels like we’re right in it."

"It’s just realtime rendering, it’s not some advanced technique, it just has a higher pixel count."

Little Wei Ming blinked and said nonchalantly:

"But the difficulty of this copy is too high, right?"

"Maybe it’s unique to copy concepts?"

Lumina tilted her head and thought:

"After all, according to the official posts, the developers weren’t initially planning to create a copy system. They added it due to strong player demand, so it’s bound to differ from other games."

"Ding"

Miss’s Spiritual Energy Magic Wand tapped on the ground.

The ringing sound of the energy collision echoed like a bell, quieting down the chaotic square in an instant.

"I’m not here to kill your Civilian Protection Officer, or you. I’m here on behalf of the Cardman Self-Defense Force and Survivor Camp, delivering the orders of our new Lord Reveno·Mo Fei·Le Senbula! You must immediately evacuate from the dangerous Blood Eagle Corridor and return to safer ground!

There will be administrators there to take care of and protect you."

Phemys declared loudly in a brief tone:

"The Star Realm disaster is over in the outside world. We’ve recaptured the outer city and are in the process of rebuilding our homes there. You can join in or leave. No one will force you. But now, your sanctuary is in the middle of our battle with the mad vampires.

Kudell, the Civilian Protection Officer, cannot protect you indefinitely.

You must make a decision immediately!"

Her words caused ripples through the crowd.

Upon hearing that the survivors in the outside world had set up a camp and reclaimed the outer city, many people in the crowd cheered.

The people hiding here aren’t all from the inner city. Some were residents of the Outer City whom Kudell had brought back from the sewers. Although the Blood Eagle Corridor was sealed off when the disaster hit, it’s only normal for Kudell, who knows the place, to bring people in, especially if the Star Realm Scorpions could climb in through the underground caves.

However, some civilians looked at Miss suspiciously.

Clearly, besides Kudell, who protected them from the Star Realm monsters and mad vampires, they didn’t trust any vampire.

Some even stubbornly believed that the disaster in Cardman City was divine punishment for the reckless actions of the vampires.

The leading group of civilians were whispering among themselves.

Among them were a robust cook, a scholarly-looking person, and a refined woman.

It was clear that these people held high prestige among the survivors.

Over the past ten days, it’s likely that they were the ones really managing this refuge. Considering Kudell’s frantic state, he wouldn’t have been able to effectively lead or command.

After a few minutes, a representative of the survivors, a middle-aged scholar with broken round-frame glasses perched on his nose, stepped forward and said to Miss:

"You said earlier that Lord Murphy has established a survivors’ camp and has become the new Lord of the ruins? The Murphy you’re referring to, is it the vampire gentleman who would always collect relief grain with us?"

"Huh?"

Miss was taken aback.

Although she knew that Murphy and Cui Si had been having a rough time in the city, had they really fallen to the pitiful point of having to receive relief grain?

"Probably. I’ve been operating outside the city for some time and am not familiar with the goings-on inside."

Phemys evaded the question and responded vaguely:

"But if it’s Murphy, he would indeed do something like this. He’s a pragmatist and doesn’t believe that vampires are superior, treating all life equally, just like Kudell."
