Chapter 276: 98. Mud pool can actually blossom the white flower?【38/60】_1

(Extra Chapter for ’Brazen Midsummer’ brother[3/5])

Ayu, covered in blood, stared dumbfounded at the scene before him.

This place was originally supposed to be three interconnected underground warehouses, but the middle wall had been dug through to connect them into a single area.

Boxes could still be seen piled up in the corners, but the place was now filled with people. From the entrance platform where the three small players were stationed, one could overlook the entire area, which had been planned into a quite compact and crowded, but well-ordered, refuge area.

People were crammed in here, creating a noisy atmosphere. Yet, it seemed as if they had already become accustomed to this form of cramped living.

Some men were even digging into the warehouse’s corners with tools to create more usable space. The crowd had used dismantled crate boards to build makeshift "shanty houses", separating different compartments to maximize the use of the limited space.

The people here even hung box-like structures similar to treehouses at the top of the area.

They were specifically reserved as the "living area" for children, with handmade soft ladders provided for the kids to climb up and down.

Beside Ayu, Coo Coo Chicken even noticed a designated place in the warehouse where a pot was being used to cook something.

If it hadn’t been for the unusual surroundings, they would have almost felt like they were back in a survivor camp.

Just by looking at the attire and appearance of the people living in this underground warehouse, it was clear that they were civilians of Cardman City. Much like many people in the outer city area who sought refuge in the sewers after the Star Realm Rift attack, the people in the inner city had made the same choice.

However, they were obviously much luckier than the people in the outer city who had fled underground. Presumably, the hunky vampire standing guard outside had found them and brought them here.

"Damn, how many people are there here?"

Cheche was somewhat frightened and asked in a low voice.

Ayu, who was calmer, used his elementary math estimation skills to quickly survey the scene and said:

"Judging by the number of shanty houses, at least 1500! Something doesn’t feel right about this place, it must be a super powerful hidden plotline! We’ve got to report to Sir Morphy right away!"

---

The Vampire Lord had just taken care of a Star Realm Mother Scorpion Tail Lion, which had been quite arduous.

In some tales, this creature was also called the Scorpion Tail Lion.

It was a special creature that combined the features of a lion, bat, and poisonous scorpion. Allegedly, they lived in the depths of the Dark Mountain Range south of Transylvania, and there were also mutated groups of them in the large desert of the Song Sea Empire.

Adult Scorpion Lions were giant beasts. As they aged and grew in strength, some of them became strong enough to be considered "legendary creatures", a category that could not be understood with common sense.

However, Star Realm Scorpion Lions were evidently more dangerous than their "kin" in the material world.

This danger came not only from their bodies, which were three times larger than ordinary lions, or their venomous scorpion tails, but also from the fact that they could use psychic spells and assault their enemies’ minds, like all other Star Realm creatures.

If Morphy hadn’t grown large bat wings that allowed him to fly, he would not have had a good solution against this vicious beast which had developed a taste for the flesh of living creatures.

The beast could fly at subsonic speeds. The underground cavern it was in, which severely limited its movements, spelled its defeat in less than five minutes in the face of Morphy’s ghost-like onslaught.

Like other Star Realm creatures, it quickly dissipated after its physical projection was defeated. However, it left Morphy with a little "souvenir".

Its venomous and strangely shaped scorpion tail fell at Morphy’s feet.

Though it was organic, it felt as cold to the touch as extraneous metal. It shimmered with starlight in the dark and was steeped in venom. Its twisted shape made it an excellent material for creating a short knife or dagger.

"Hmm?"

As Morphy had just picked up his spoils of war, he noticed that information had actively been sent to the Core Bead from the little players.

According to the communication system of the Calculating Pearl, players could not initiate communication with Morphy, who was positioned as a higher node, and could only issue "reports" through a request.

This was also an important aspect of maintaining the NPC image.

Because report requests required adherence to the fixed format of letters in this world, players who found it troublesome seldom used this function.

Who would have the spare time to bother with this while in the middle of a dungeon raid?

He picked up the Core Bead and opened Ayu’s report. Though it was short, it immediately made Morphy narrow his eyes.

Huh?

Blood Eagle Protector?

At least 1500 survivors?

A shelter hidden layers deep with the corpse of a crazed vampire? Hadn’t this connected the dots to Missy’s earlier suspicions and warnings?

"Hold on!"

He gestured to the old Knight Finoc, who was preparing to proceed, and then sent a communication request to Missy’s Calculating Pearl.

A few seconds later, the communication was connected.

Missy’s emotionless voice came from the other side:

"What’s the matter? I’m kind of busy here."

"Who is the current Civil Protection Officer of the Blood Vulture Clan?" Morphy asked.

As a family member, he should know the answer to that problem.

However, unfortunately, being a peripheral figure, Morphy was not familiar with nor concerned about the organization’s structure. His sudden question left Missy astounded for a moment.
