"Ah..."
Muffled groans emanated from the tent as Maxim, who had been unconscious for a day, finally opened his eyes as the swirling nightmares receded.
The loyal servant was drenched in sweat, his linen underclothes saturating, but as his consciousness returned, the wounds that should have been on his body had already healed significantly.
At least they would no longer affect his actions.
This abnormal self-healing stemmed from the minute release of hidden potential in his body, a result of mastering the Black Iron Trial, turning his trained and beaten body into an extraordinary vessel of power.
For a warrior, this was the most insignificant of transformations.
The entirety of the Black Iron rank training was related to the release of individual potential. Once all of an individual’s latent potential had been exploited, they would naturally enter the stage of the Silver Body Power Trial.
The next stage naturally comes with even more difficult goals, but that’s not a concern for a Black Iron ranked warrior.
This power system compiled by the elves was not just a collection of cool and eccentric names; each stage had its own responsibilities.
"It seems you’ve recovered well."
As Maxim sat up from the bed, Sir Murphy’s voice suddenly echoed from the shadows of the tent, making the loyal servant stand at once.
But with the sound of a blade slicing through the air, a detailed, sturdy sword, refined by spiritual energy and adorned with ebony flowers - a tomb ceremony Black Blade, was handed over to him.
Maxim’s eyes narrowed.
He immediately recognized this blade as Jed’s personal sword. There was Jed’s personal emblem on the hilt, which could tentatively be referred to as "Jed’s Blade".
But now this sword was in the hands of Sir Murphy, so...
"I’ve made a deal with Jed, Mark. The process wasn’t ’pleasant’."
Murphy stepped out from the shadows’ dividing line, his tone gentle as he spoke to Maxim:
"From now on, you don’t have to worry about past entanglements; you can finally embrace a new and unrestricted life.
I should congratulate you, loyal servant."
"I too feel joy and offer my congratulations for your glorious victory, Sir Murphy!"
With an open heart and no psychological burden, Maxim accepted the Tomb Ceremony Black Blade, exclusive to the Tomb Sword Guard. His debt to Jed had been repaid.
He looked at Sir Murphy in front of him, with his elegant smile and manner, and then gleaned from Sir Murphy’s aura that he too had just undergone a trial and emerged victorious, much like Maxim himself had.
Combining this with the relic in his hand that belonged to Jed, it was not hard to figure out who Murphy had chosen as his target for the Power Trial.
Indeed, Sir Murphy had not disappointed!
Maxim sighed inwardly, "What an accomplishment - using a Silver Grade enemy as a stepping stone to reach new heights. Compared to this, the small victories I achieved are insignificant."
"Maybe it’s time I fulfilled my promise to you."
Standing on the dividing line of the shadow, Murphy looked at the number ’1/3’ on his character card representing the Blood Oath and said to Maxim:
"I’ve obtained a new power and can turn you into a creature of the night, like me, leading you to step into eternity. But I hope you can wait a bit longer, Mark.
The weakness in the bloodline from Cuisi has not yet been fully resolved.
But I think, once we step into the Blood Eagle Corridor and completely get rid of the hidden dangers in the darkness, this insignificant problem will also be resolved."
He stopped for a moment, then added emphasis to tell the silent Maxim:
"I want to give you the best, because your actions deserve the best!"
"Of course, sir, I obey your will."
Maxim bowed his head humbly and said in a deep voice:
"I have already entrusted my soul, personality, and will to you. My fate should be determined by you, and all I need to do is swing my sword for you, cutting down those who stand in the way of your grand endeavour.
That’s all I need to do."
"I have no doubt about it."
Murphy chuckled, his hands folded behind his back as he spoke to Maxim, his most trusted servant aside from Cuisi:
"Now, get dressed and come with me to the city.
I want to create my own Tomb Emblem. You can assist and understand this process. In this way, when it is time for you to become one of us, you can immediately receive the power of the midnight blessing."
"It is my honour, sir."
Maxim smiled in the darkness.
After Murphy left, he immediately got up, changed out of his soaked linen robe and efficiently put on his inner armor.
Just as he was about to put on his tattered chainmail, he found a clean Tomb Sword Guard combat leather armor sitting on the table in the tent.
It was obviously another part of Jed’s "legacy".
The high-grade spiritual outer garment made by the tailors and craftsmen of the Blood Vulture Clan, adorned with luxurious and obscure Blood Vulture emblems all around the armor.
Only the clan leader’s personal guards were entitled to wear such protective gear; its existence itself was a reward for loyalty.
Maxim flexed his fingers but didn’t refuse Murphy’s generosity.
He put on the armor neatly, picked up the vampire mask on the side, and wore it over his face, hiding his unusually shaped face beneath the black armor. He then strapped on Jed’s Black Ceremony Blade and finally attached his own Spiritual Poison Blade "Ambition and Dreams" to the other side of his weapon belt.
