Chapter 207: 74. Loyalty and Monster [14/60]_3

"You tampered with the lottery results, didn’t you?"

Maxim asked with a soundless voice.

"You were supposed to lead eight blood servants to back up Sir Morphy. You know that in Jed’s eyes, we low-ranking blood servants are nothing more than pawns. You know how that mission would have ended...

Yet you still chose to throw me under the bus!"

What answered him was a wave of silence and sudden murderous intent.

With a push of Vampire Arthur’s arm, Maxim was thrown out. He then adjusted his posture, steadying his footing with the sword tip pointed downwards.

"Isn’t it good to survive?"

Blood wings spreading and closing behind Arthur, in the more and more indifferent wind, a few tumbleweeds seemed to pass by their feet as though the two men weren’t there. Arthur, now a true vampire, spoke with a deep voice:

"Why do you still cling to those things that make you unhappy? You know, I was really happy when I saw you came back alive, my monster brother."

"No, I don’t blame you."

Maxim advanced again to launch an attack.

The master-level blood vulture swordsmanship, honed in constant bloody battles, shimmered with a deadly edge in the dark night. But this was not lethal for a vampire.

After all, that’s just the basic swordsmanship. Under the enhancement of the night, Arthur, although he was only a "baby vampire" born seven days ago, could easily handle Maxim’s one after another sword strikes relying on his instincts.

"I even want to thank you! Because of this stab you made behind your ’monster’ brother’s back, it seems like both of us have found what we were longing for.

You won Jed’s approval.

And I found a master worth my loyalty, which made my uncommitted loyalty valuable."

Maxim’s voice grew louder, and his attacks became more and more aggressive.

Arthur on the other side maintained his silence until he blurted out all his thoughts. Suddenly, he thrust a sword, breaking through Maxim’s blocking position and stabbed his shoulder, seemingly intending to stop Maxim’s "suicidal action" with this sword.

However, this inevitable sword strike was avoided by Maxim with a strange slide step, and in the next instant, he side-struck, like a flash, the incoming sword blade pried Arthur’s helmet, causing the elaborate crimson helmet to swirl in the air before crashing to the ground.

A wisp of vampire hair and a few drops of fresh blood flew off along with it.

"I really don’t blame you, brother."

Maxim retracted his sword style.

Under Arthur’s astonished gaze, he held his sword horizontally in front of him with one hand. Behind him, the first light of dawn slowly emerged, and the chilly wind still whistled as it blew over their armor and tresses.

"This battle has nothing to do with personal grudges. It’s just about you fulfilling Jed’s order, and I, paying my loyalty to my master. That’s all."

A loyal servant pushed his face armor and said in a deep voice:

"Arthur, only one of us two brothers can leave here alive. Please, take it seriously!"

"You monster!"

The vampire realized he had fallen into Maxim’s trap the instant he saw the dawn. This guy had been dragging the time out using strange languages to neutralize his advantage in the night.

Arthur felt cheated. Maxim wasn’t this clever and cunning before!

It seemed that not only him but also others had undergone changes in the past seven days.

The anger from his heart, perhaps mixed with a little guilt and embarrassment of being outsmarted, finally made him ruthlessly attack.

Lifting his sword and launching a more dangerous assault with the Crypt Guard’s swordsmanship, he was confident to kill Maxim on the spot with this swordsmanship taught by Sir Jed. However, the five consecutive swings that missed made Arthur’s ominous premonition in his heart more and more real. In the next moment, Maxim delivered a sword to his left shoulder with the same posture but obviously more skilled Crypt Guard’s swordsmanship.

The blade slid, and fresh blood sprayed out.

"You! How could you..."

"Oh, that? Sir Morphy taught me! He sees potential in me and trains me wholeheartedly, giving me not only hope but also wisdom... My master is much more generous than that fucking Jed, I told you, Arthur.

Take it seriously! My brother.

Otherwise...

You will die!"
