Chapter 187: 67. Report, sir! We have caught a group of vampire beggars! [7/60]_1

(Extra update for ’Frostfang’s Claw’ brothers[2/5])

On the seventh day of the Cardman City special event, players logged in to find that the city ruins they had been exploring for the past few days had greatly changed.

In the distance, the flames covered the ruins violently, as if a searing fire line had been laid over the dim city. The risen heat distorted the light, making it difficult to see clearly, while nearby were three blocks that had already been burnt the night before.

Black ashes were everywhere, reflecting an image of desolation.

"It’s really burning."

Wumeioge, standing in the ash with his four bodyguards and his cousin Little Hand, sighed in awe.

They dragged two large carts behind them, filled with the secret fire oil prepared by Lady Cui Si. Their mission was to deliver these supplies to the NPC of the Cardman self-defence force at the front line, who would then set up the next section of the city to be burnt down.

This act of arson was progressing as planned. According to the calculations of Murphy and Cui Si, by midnight today, the entire outer city district could be cleansed by flames.

"Hey, you are right. This burnt area really doesn’t have those weird shadows from the Star Realm, even the disturbing black snow is gone."

Wumeioge’s cousin "No Hands Needed to Show Off" poked a heap of ash nearby with his war spear. He shattered a clay pot, a few copper coins spilling out, which were quickly pocketed by him.

He then looked up and confidently spoke to his ambitious cousin:

"Brother, about your career change ..."

"I will do it tomorrow!"

Wumeioge waved his big hand and said:

"I’ve already asked for help to find the materials in the camp. After the rewards are issued when the event ends tomorrow, and the stars come out, we’ll go to the forest and try it out.

Once this hidden mission is completed, we can all switch to new careers!"

"No, brother, I mean, are you sure you want to switch to that weird career?"

No Hands Needed to Show Off said with worry:

"What if you ruin your character? Currently, there is no information about the new career. Aren’t you worried it might be a low-grade career?"

"This is a mission given by the mainline NPC, how could it be low-grade? It’s clearly part of the side story plot, isn’t it? Allowing players to explore new career systems, that’s what you call game immersion."

Wumeioge unworriedly responded with a grin:

"In other games we are footmen, but it’s different here. We are pioneers in history! Let’s get moving, finish this mission first."

The six of them, dragging their carts, quickly walked through the street filled with ash. Some collectors from the camp could be seen looking for usable items in the ruins along the streets.

As they passed, some young people or people who had previously received favours from them called out to Wumeioge and the others or bowed from afar. This made the young players very happy.

Fortunately, these indigenous NPCs aren’t ungrateful, those who know how to express gratitude always make others feel comfortable.

They delivered the fire oil to the front line just as Sir Morphy was patrolling the fire line with his "Harem Group". Wumeioge and his team immediately went up to make themselves known and curry favour. Morphy casually issued them a "Wildfire Fuelling" task to help start the fire.

After sending away the overly enthusiastic young players, he turned to Cui Si behind him and said:

"I can feel the Star Realm spiritual energy dissipating at an increasing speed, reducing the black cloud covering the sky. I estimate that we will be able to see the moon and stars tonight."

"It’s not just because of the fire."

Cui Si, leaning on her cane, shook her head and explained:

"It’s because the Star Realm energy is receding as a whole, the rift is about to close. Tomorrow! By dusk at the latest, the inner city that has been trapped for a week will reappear in the physical world."

"There won’t be anything there."

The young lady followed up in a hoarse voice:

"When I ventured there seven days ago, I saw a vast stretch of buildings being pulled into the Star Realm. A week’s erosion and consumption would be enough to turn the inner city into a barren land.

However, that may be good news for you.

It means all past traces of Cardman City have been erased, just like a blank canvas for you to add your own colors."

"Be more optimistic, little girl."

Lady Cui Si mocked:

"Have a little more faith in our vicious and cunning clansmen. The speed of Spiritual Energy erosion on life is slower. If they could hide underground when the disaster struck, then after tomorrow, we might see a group of vampires whose minds have been distorted by Star Realm erosion.

By then, regardless of whether you are willing or not, you will have to deal with them yourself.

So, it’s not too late to leave all your pessimism till then."

"That’s enough, Cui Si."

Morphy also thought Cui Si’s words were too harsh.

He reached out and gave Cui Si’s wrist a light tug to make her stop, but the young lady, who had already been looking unwell these past few days, turned even paler.

Obviously, Cui Si had hit a nerve.

Morphy was troubled by the inexplicable hostility between Cui Si and the young lady. He guessed it had something to do with the young lady’s secret. Cui Si wasn’t always so malicious, but for some reason, she seemed unable to tolerate anything the young lady did. After all, Phemys had been quite cooperative over the past week.

She could even be described as "obedient".

"The sky! Look! That ghostly thing is shrinking."

A shout came from the crowd nearby, attracting much attention.
