Chapter 185: 66. Goodbye, Old Times in Cardman City [6/60]_1
(Adding an extra Chapter for brother ’Frostfang’s Claw’ [1/5])
"Phew"
The orange flame ran along the torch thrown by Lumina, swiftly rising along the alchemical fire oil that she had spilled previously, just like a writhing fire snake.
Clearly, the oil was mixed with something else.
The speed of the flame was unusually fast, luckily Lumina had thrown the torch from a distance. If she had been close, given the speed of ignition, she probably wouldn’t have had enough time to run away.
In the blink of an eye, the two alleys in front of her were fully wrapped in bright flames. Under the leaping fire, the shadows of the surrounding obstacles were stretched long, but Lumina could hear some faint popping sounds, like the screams of something being ignited in the fire.
This made her widen her eyes and grab the shotgun in her hand again.
Being attacked by the Starhound reminded her of her real advantage. Rather than close-quarters combat, she might still be more suited to shooting from a distance. It’s a pity, she had just gotten her elven swordsmanship. She wondered if there was a profession that could balance ranged and close combat?
"Roar"
A terrible howl interrupted Lumina’s thoughts. She immediately raised her gun and aimed at the flames in front of her. Then she saw the invisible creatures of despair struggling out of the smoke from the burning fire, as if they were trying to flee from the intense flames.
But they hadn’t run far when Lumina shattered their form with a single bullet, turning them into black smoke which was swallowed up by the intense fire.
"It works!"
Lumina looked at the Star Shadows in the alley in front of her, disintegrating and being consumed by the fire. In places where the fire had burned, only ashes were left behind.
It seemed that Sir Morphy’s plan had found a solid foothold. All they needed to do now was to spread this alchemical fire oil all over the ruins of the outer city, and a single spark would wrap everything up nicely.
She looked at the "Burning Test" mission which was already displayed as completed in her player interface, hoisted her gun and hummed a song. Carrying the strange bone she had just picked up from the Starhound, she headed towards the defense line to find Lady Cui Si and report the completion of her task.
Sir Morphy was not here, and she didn’t know where he had gone.
"Hmm, the quality of the Star Realm jaw bone is good. You’re lucky, little miss."
Maintaining her trademark half-drunken pose, Lady Cui Si sat next to the alchemy table, examining the specimen that Lumina had handed in for a moment before nodding in satisfaction. She asked:
"What do you want? I can exchange the secrets of Spiritual Energy for this material."
Lady Cui Si looked both tempting and kind-hearted at this moment, but she was actually overjoyed.
The bones of these Star Realm creatures still carried a crystallization of their wild Star Realm energy, it was considered a rare material in other spiritual circles. But now, she only had to pay a little elementary spiritual knowledge to fool these lovely little warriors.
As her dear little Morphy had said, once she became acquainted with the styles of these little warriors, she found herself liking these forever lively, fearless, naive, and easily satisfied little cuties more and more.
Their courage obviously needed to be applied in more appropriate places, like helping her get good wine or acquire some rare and expensive material.
Lumina knew beforehand that rare loot materials could be exchanged with Lady Cui Si for papers on Psychic skills. However, since she was a solo player and didn’t take part in dungeons, she didn’t plan for this opportunity. Upon hearing Lady Cui Si’s inquiry, she found herself somewhat bewildered.
After pondering for a moment, she cautiously asked:
"Do you have any Psychic books in Elven style here?"
"Elven?"
With the help of the Calculating Pearl’s accurate translation, Cui Si understood Lumina’s idea, but she furrowed her brow and said:
"Why do you show interest in those conservative and xenophobic folks? They are not so kind, the war between the Castilla Elves and the Sanghai People, known as the ’Bridge of Heaven’ that occurred 300 years ago, shocked the continent. It was the first time we realized the immense power held by those who follow the way of Avalon and live in seclusion.
Lil miss, you should be cautious.
What I’m saying is, keep your distance from dangerous things."
However, seeing that Lumina’s expression hadn’t changed, Lady Cui Si knew that her warning was in vain.
Thinking about Morphy asking her to secretly look after this brave and observant girl, Cui Si thought for a moment, then took out a scroll and started writing elegantly.
About five minutes later, the scroll was folded and handed to Lumina.
"This is one of the Elven spells I remember but you won’t be able to use it yet."
Upon hearing Lady Cui Si’s words, Lumina quickly and happily accepted the scroll and activated the item identification function in the player interface. Soon, a simple explanation appeared before her eyes:
Name: Cui Si’s Magic Note· Eye of the Wilderness
Effect: Study the Natural Psychic skills· Eye of the Wilderness, summon a Psychic Sentinel Owl, and guide the owl to observe beyond the range of vision. It allows the user to keep superviewing and place up to three psychic markers in the target area, as long as there’s enough energy.
In terrain abundant with natural psychic energy, the Eye of the Wilderness’s effect increases, energy consumption decreases, and allows the user to carry out short-distance mental communication with the target.
Hint!
The owl summoned by this spell possesses [Natural Stealth] and [Psychic Shield]. Hence, it is hard for enemies to discover it.
