Chapter 178: Award for the Brave and the Saviors【3/60】_2
Ever since the auto-login feature of the game was enabled, the players had set timers to ensure they logged in at the transition between day and night. This allowed them not to miss the activity periods of the Vampire NPCs and to pick up a few quests from the human survivors in the camp.
Apart from Lumina, who was dealing with a time zone difference, the only players who hadn’t yet logged in were the five newbies who had been swallowed up by creatures of despair as soon as they came online yesterday.
The group was casually chatting away.
Murphy didn’t get involved. Instead, he opened a private chat with Lumina and sent over a message:
Alpha:[Just now, the system backend showed that the large-scale hidden mission you triggered was completed. The development team is quite pleased with this outcome. To be honest, when they designed this hidden mission, they didn’t think it would be triggered so quickly, so they only left a placeholder for the mission reward.
The team asked me to check with you if there’s anything specific you’d like.
As the first player to trigger a large-scale plot-related hidden mission in the game, the development team wants to give you a little ’easter egg’ to commemorate your outstanding performance.
This kind of ’customized reward’ opportunity doesn’t come by often, so think about it carefully.]
Lumina·Sun Stain:[Wow, really? Although, isn’t this a major work flaw? Will the development team get their wages cut? smirk.jpg]
Alpha: [Wipes_sweat.jpg. We can’t help it, the dev team is a bit overloaded. Thanks to your activity, many previously undiscovered bugs have been detected. But under such workload, some oversight is natural.
Just don’t go around telling everyone.]
Lumina·Sun Stain:[Hum, so this is the legendary ’hush money’? Can I make an excessive request, like transporting my character to the elf lands? I found a fairy tale book in the ruins yesterday, and after translating it on the player interface, I confirmed that there are elves in the game, right?]
Alpha:[Well, there are indeed elves. The Castilla Elves are a powerful force in the game’s lore, but their high-level map is far from this ’Novice Zone’ of Transylvania, almost thousands of kilometers away. So it hasn’t been fully developed yet, essentially just a created folder.
Try to be a bit more realistic. Do you really like elves that much?]
Lumina·Sun Stain:[Hey, Brother Fa! Just look at my game ID to know, right? I always choose an elf in any game, it’s just a pity that I couldn’t customize my face in this game.
But let me guess, the ’custom rewards’ for us five are not just to commemorate this large-scale hidden mission, right?
I guess, the development team wants to use attractive rewards to guide the current players to change their game approach, to make them actively look for these carefully designed details hidden between the lines to move the game forward?]
Alpha:[Hmm? Why do you think so? Do tell.]
Lumina·Sun Stain:[It’s simple, I noticed that Wumeioge and his crew are really involved, but they are still wandering around "Real Different World" with the mindset of a traditional game.
Like the mob’s sewer camp they are going to explore today, I honestly discovered it on the first night.
The newspapers scattered around the city occasionally report news about that place. If they paid attention to these easily missed details when scavenging, there would be no need to deliver alcohol to Lady Cui Si, the insatiable pretty alcoholic, for critical information.
Their behavior clearly follows the traditional game logic of ’NPC-driven plot’. While they may appear diligent in action, it just reveals their mental laziness!
This game is extremely realistic.
It operates under the logic of a real-world construction. My feeling now is, if you want to truly understand this game, you can’t treat it as a ’fake world’!
Hehe, Brother Fa, am I right?]
Alpha:[You are quite sharp. I admit you are right, but the official stance would not give such clear guidance. We don’t want to teach players how to play.
We also have no right to take away the fun of players exploring the ’new world’.
So, you are sure you want a reward related to elves, right?
The development team is going to have a headache. The Transylvania region is not related to elves in the background, but let them figure it out. I’m just the messenger.
Contact the other four people off-line as soon as possible, then collate what rewards you want, and tell me. The development team will try to meet your needs.
Last reminder, keep this confidential.]
Lumina·Sun Stain: [OK, leave it to me...emmmm, Brother Fa, when is the next time we send an invitation code? I’ve just convinced two of my friends to join, they’re pretty tough.
Much smarter than me.]
Alpha: [Have them apply internally. We’ll consider them for the next round of recruitment, but I can’t give you an exact timeline because the rate we’re testing has to be adjusted according to the speed of the story’s progress.
If you guys want to play with more of your friends, don’t slack off during the testing phase.]
After wrapping up his forum exchange with Lumina, Murphy stood up. He swiftly unsheathed his Swift Sword and took a few steps forward, propelled by an eerie Dark Step. He then casually sheathed his sword again.
You like elves?
Isn’t that a lucky coincidence?
I happen to have a special set of sword techniques from the Shadow Elves of the Mejewa family. Maybe I can leave the "secret mission" of Lady Adel’s lineage to Lumina.
I bet that "elf-control" wouldn’t refuse, would she?
Should I recruit more players like Lumina, who are great at role-playing? These RP players might be the best group to adapt to the current situation in Transylvania.
About half an hour later, Murphy, who was wandering through the city ruins searching for star beasts to practice his Tomb Sword Guard swordsmanship, stopped when he received a private forum message from Lumina.
Upon opening it, he noticed the other four didn’t share her wildly original ideas.
Ring Attack and Brother Black Silk were pragmatic, seeking skill cards or weapon equipment that could enhance their character’s power.
The two middle-aged guys, Mud Truck and Shovel, weren’t so power-hungry. Instead, they were immersing themselves in the management of the camp, enjoying the thrill of commanding hundreds of people in the game.
What they wanted was some tools that could help the camp recover its productivity quickly.
"What a simple wish, such great players! Look, they don’t even want money...where can we find such good labor?"
Murphy exclaimed.
He took out a map from his Spiritual Energy bag, glanced at it, then changed direction, leading his Star Realm giant wolf towards another part of the ruins.
There, a narrow shopping street specialized in selling farming tools and seeds. He was sure the two older men would find what they wanted there.
Finding weapon equipment and skill books would be even easier.
Ring Attack is a dual-sword swordsman, Brother Black Silk is a great-sword swordsman, get them some proficiency skill books on Blood Vulture swordsmanship and some good gear from the warehouse protector series and they’ll be ready to go. Even though Blood Vulture swordsmanship isn’t high-grade, it’s the basis for the Blood Vulture Clan’s physical careers, and isn’t available everywhere.
At this stage, the only way to get a proficiency skill book that raises skill caps is by completing Maxim’s "Strength Trial". Sister Pomegranate is the only player to have gotten a hold of one by using a BUG, they’re really in short supply.
Considering the players’ current leveling speed, they’ll probably hit level 8 about two days after this special event is over, not far from triggering the Black Iron Trial.
The rate at which the players are growing is surprising to Murphy.
If it wasn’t for the game-time limit, these indefatigable players would be leveling up even faster.
Murphy knew he had to speed up and complete his Strength Trial. An NPC that can’t keep ahead of the players is bound to be disliked, but where is it easy to find a Black Iron-ranked enemy in the current Cardman City?
The witch hunters would be perfect targets, but they’re guarded by a Gold Stage White Knight. Unless Lady Cui Si recovers her strength overnight, the prudent Murphy would rather not rush for his life.
No problem!
He doesn’t mind taking it slow.
He doesn’t have a game-time limit anyway, so taking his time isn’t a problem as long as he’s steady... Ah, he couldn’t afford to make a mistake in this crucial early stage of his venture.
