Chapter 146: Why did I become an officer in the game when I said I’d come to build reputation? _1
Akuen’s post had been up for only five minutes and it was already the hottest topic of the day, attracting all the players who were either offline or hadn’t logged in yet, to fervently discuss about this ’affection formula’ Akuen had deduced.
They were content with the strategies Akuen laid out for raising affection with other NPCs, but were highly dissatisfied about him leaving out Sir Morphy.
Wumeioge:[Why didn’t you mention Sir Morphy’s preferences? Write another post worth ten bucks, I’m waiting to read it.]
Lumina·Sun Stain:[Obviously, Akuen wants to monopolize Sir Morphy’s affection, sly little rascal!]
Akuen:[Hold on, don’t falsely accuse me! It’s not that I didn’t want to write it, but as far as I know, Sir Morphy hasn’t shown any particular fondness for certain items.
If anything, he seems to take interest in some of our local customs.
Whenever some of the guys said something odd, he’d ask them about it, making things pretty awkward. I guess it’s because of his unique AI?]
Three Five Battles:[Wrong! Sir Morphy does have preferences, you just haven’t discovered them yet!]
Akuen:[??? That’s impossible! I’ve been observing from the shadows, there’s no way I made such a huge mistake. So, tell me, what does Sir Morphy like?]
Three Five Battles:[That’s easy! He likes Lady Cui Si! Didn’t you notice how he acts like a baby around her when they’re together? So, I’m guessing that their reputations are linked.
Perhaps once Lady Cui Si’s affection reaches a certain level, the option to give Sir Morphy a gift will become available.
Or at least we could ask Lady Cui Si about it. After all, no one knows a child better than their mother, and Sir Morphy is her Blood Descendant.]
Akuen:[!!! Yes, I did overlook that. Considering how smart the NPCs in this game are, after Lady Cui Si’s affection increases we might indeed get some critical information.
But one thing’s for sure, no matter which NPC route the players choose next, Sir Morphy’s reputation must be maxed out.
He’s a main plot NPC!
Without him, there’s no way to progress the plot.]
Mud Car Iaido: [@ all members, we’ve found a new Skill Book! The final reward for initiating Miss Milian’s outpost series tasks is the "Blood Vulture Swordsmanship· From Proficient to Mastery" but it requires the completion of at least 30 side missions from the outpost with a final completion score not lower than 70%.
Any bros available to log in?
Let’s do the tasks together, there’s too many here for just the three of us.]
Meow King: [Can’t log in bro, I’ve used up my game time for today. You guys go ahead and treat it as reconnaissance for us.]
Excavator Man on the Move: [What’s the point of scouting? The tasks in this game are one-time-only! Except for main tasks that can be shared and a few daily tasks, once we complete them, you guys won’t be able to do it again. But the NPC population in the outpost is increasing. Mud Car and I just tried, almost each NPC triggers dialogue.
Many of them have tasks, mostly require going to the city ruins in search of people or items. We only accepted a few, we’ll leave the rest to you guys.]
Lead Dove: [Steady bro! I’ll head to the outpost and do some hard labor as soon as I log in tomorrow. But I remember it’s always been the two of you, how come there’s suddenly a third person?]
Mud Car Iaido: [Yeah, about that, I dragged my brother-in-law in, Cool sunglasses bro.jpg]
Meow Meow Meow Shark: [So, this is what the gaming world of middle-aged people is like? How terrifying...]
At this moment, in the survivor outpost situated in the safe zone outside Cardman City, the evening twilight bathed the earth. Mud Car Iaido closed the forum page and stretched, then turned back and looked at the newbie who was glancing around, and said with a grin:
"So, what do you think? I didn’t trick you, did I?"
"I thought you were joking before, but it turns out to be real. Is this really the game that the most advanced technology can produce nowadays? It’s so lifelike!"
The newbie "Full Coverage Semi-hanging" jumped on the spot but couldn’t get airborne.
Apparently, Mother Earth, even in the gaming world, was worried about her children getting injured and had bound him with gravity. The novice player commented as he felt the various sensations from his body:
"Honestly, my understanding of games is still stuck on the Sunwell version of WOW, technology has advanced too fast, hasn’t it?"
"Well, I just think this game is a good place to unwind and retire."
Mud Car Iaido patted Full Coverage Semi-hanging on the shoulder, saying:
"There’s a river not far from this deserted city, it’s a tributary of a major river in Transylvania. It’s said that there are many incredible and tasty fish there. You can bring a fishing rod and sit there all day without anyone bothering you, it might also keep your wife from arguing with you."
"Who wants to argue with her, she’s so annoying. She nags even when I go fishing, I’m not freeloading am I? Can’t I enjoy life a bit after working hard for half of my life?"
Full Coverage Semi-hanging, full of complaints, spoke his mind, then followed Mud Car Iaido, pushing a cart full of wood towards the survivor outpost not far away.
This pile of arm-thick wood is what they just cut down, it’s part of the outpost construction mission issued by Miss Milian.
Theoretically, as the monster clean-up in Cardman City progresses, newbie players like Full Coverage Semi-hanging should be leveling up. Yet, both he and Mud Car Iaido and Shovel Man are over the age of forty, so they don’t have much interest in fighting or killing. They’re really playing this game to retire and unwind.
