Chapter 142: 51. New Player and "Random Drop"_3
"Not at all, didn’t you just get a job too? I didn’t want to burden you, and besides, your family is urging you to get married soon. I’m afraid I’ll get dragged into that if I stay with you.
I’ll be just fine spending the summer alone."
"Bullshit! I think you’re just addicted to gaming."
The feisty Sister Pomegranate rolls her eyes and pulls up the timid Bull Bull standing in front of her, patting him on the shoulder saying:
"Let me tell you, I just landed a perfect gig. Some clueless rich second-generation kid got kicked out to start his own company. I spruced up my resume a bit, and guess what?
I’m his CEO’s secretary now, second only to him.
You should come over. I can get you a position as the security team leader so you can earn some extra cash. The kid’s family is rich, but he doesn’t have a clue about running a company.
I reckon his company will collapse in a month, but getting paid for doing nothing for a month is a good deal, isn’t it?"
"Sis, I’m playing a game here, don’t talk about reality."
Bull Bull completely ignores her.
He pulls out the weapons and armor he used before from his bag of Spiritual Energy and sets his older sister up, casually asking:
"Sis, check out your player interface and figure out your character traits so you can choose a development direction. This game is very free, you can do whatever you want."
"Oh, let me have a look."
Under Bull Bull’s guidance, Sister Pomegranate opens her Calculating Pearl and after a moment of chin stroking, she asks:
"Why do I only have four character traits? Did I mess up this character?"
"What?"
As he was helping his sister tie on a tough leather armor belt, Bull Bull’s hands tremble, almost strangling Sister Pomegranate, earning him another round of scolding.
But the implications in his sister’s words are a bit daunting.
In the game, the player with the highest strength, Bull Bull, only has two character traits, which is already astonishing to the players. But Sister Pomegranate already has four traits in her blank state, she is clearly the "chosen one".
"How can you have four!"
Bull Bull leans in to take a look, and finds that his sister’s four traits are quite fitting. They are the same as his, [Master Athlete]and [Boxing Warrior], the other two being [Swift as a Rabbit] which increases attack speed, and [Dancer’s Flexibility] which increases passive evasion rate.
Even though all players start with an attribute total of 30, however powerful Sister Pomegranate is she cannot add points out of nowhere. But with her four traits, her combat power is already leading a majority of players, and her potential has even caught Murphy’s attention.
Each upgrade of a player’s property increases by only 18 points, and leveling up on the same level does not increase their absolute strength. With the highest level players currently only being at level 7, there is actually no qualitative difference in everyone’s combat power aside from skill level.
If Sister Pomegranate really puts her mind to it, she could easily take on four players single-handedly.
"This character panel is just too unreasonable!"
The athlete is deeply traumatized.
But thinking about it, the game emphasizes reality, and his older sister was a national first-class athlete before she retired. It makes sense that she would have such exaggerated initial traits.
"This is a blessed character template. Come, I’ll show you around the combat mode. Even though you can fight well, this game is very realistic, so prepare yourself."
Bull Bull walks towards the city with his sister. Sister Pomegranate looks around curiously and quickly spots two huts, one with four men inside and another with a girl in it.
"Huh, are there other female players in the game besides me?"
She asks out of curiosity. Bull Bull immediately introduces:
"That’s Sister Lumi. She’s a cool and incredible exchange student who’s great with a gun, and she rescued thirteen people in the city last night. The militia call her a female hero."
"Hmm, she does sound worth getting to know."
Sister Pomegranate immediately became interested and happily followed her brother to grind for monsters.
As a high-quality human female, she originally had little interest in playing games. The only reasons she signed up were boredom and her brother’s relentless praise.
But after getting into it, she found the game surprisingly good.
The realism at the very least, was impeccable!
Anyway, she just got a paycheck from her clueless boss, she can consider this as rewarding herself some leisure time.
She had been living quite a hard life for the past twenty-eight years, it’s about time she relaxed a bit.
---
Murphy is very busy.
He had just sent off the players and sneaked into the number one treasure vault in the outer city area. He took out a few things he had prepared from his bag of Spiritual Energy and casually placed them in the corners of the vault which had been emptied.
After finishing all this, Murphy claps his hands, satisfied with the arrangement in front of him.
"These are the ’drops’ for tomorrow’s dungeon. In the next five days, there should be two to three ’random drops’ every day in the three treasure vault dungeons, and I also need to provide them with dungeon certificates..."
The vampire takes out three blood vials and drips a drop of blood from his fingertip, split in three and slid into the vials. These will be used as keys to open the treasure vault door for the players. According to their current speed of grinding monsters, the Star Realm Shadows in this area should be mostly cleared in three days.
The fine new armor and weapons in the vault are a "surprise" for the new players. If all goes well, everyone should get two items each.
Of course, what they get each day depends on Murphy’s mood today...
This is perfectly normal.
In dungeons, is there really any such thing as true random drops?
Those are actually NPCs secretly lugging items around, right? The possessions in the treasure chests you players open at a high price on the black market are also secretly put in by NPCs, right?
Murphy’s behind-the-scenes manipulation is just a salute to his predecessors in the field. That being said, if these young players couldn’t hold their tongues and pissed Murphy off, then don’t blame the poor old vampire for leaving a heap of junk here.
After all, it’s been said that he is quite petty!
