Qin Zhiyou was deeply moved. The first statement might have been a rational confession, but the following one was an impulsive, emotional outburst—something beyond reason. He had never been more certain about the intensity of Lu Weixi’s feelings for him.

He gently held her, running his hand through her hair, his voice soft, "Silly girl."

This was his wife, his child—he had to protect them. He would make sure they were happy, even if it cost him his life.

Qin Zhiyou suddenly asked, "Xixi, you’re three months pregnant now, right?"

Lu Weixi nodded. Was the timing of her pregnancy even a question? It had happened during the days they had divorced, and they had just been to the hospital for a prenatal checkup a few days ago.

Qin Zhiyou continued, "There are seven months until the due date, and then there’s the confinement period. If we start counting from now, she’ll be out of confinement around September."

Lu Weixi nodded again. Actually, her pregnancy was going quite well, due around the summer vacation. Although the confinement period would be tough, she could resume her studies afterward without any delay. She had already reduced her workload these past months, and planned to hire a long-term nanny and housekeeper to help care for the child and her mother, balancing work and studies.

Qin Zhiyou added, "You mentioned before that there was some bleeding, right? The doctor said it might be a threatened miscarriage, that the pregnancy isn’t very stable."

Lu Weixi nodded again, expecting him to make some profound statement, but Qin Zhiyou immediately continued, "That means, for the next eight months, I have to be a monk! Even though you’re about to enter the stable phase of the second trimester, and I’ve heard couples can be intimate then, now it seems even that’s not possible. Why couldn’t I have found out about this when you were almost due? The wait wouldn’t have been so long. From now until the end of confinement is still eight months, rounding it up to a year. While Lu Weixi was at work, Qin Zhiyou brought the lawyer to the Lu family’s home, where in front of Lu’s mother, they drafted a property plan. It designated that all his future assets would go to his and Lu Weixi’s child, regardless of either party’s death or a divorce.

With the agreement set, Lu’s mother finally agreed to the marriage, though she added, "Let’s talk after the agreement is notarized."

Qin Zhiyou didn’t mind; having won over his mother-in-law, he could finally prepare to propose to Lu Weixi!
