During the five days following her divorce proposal, she had been resistant; she feared she would lose control, she feared lingering attachments after the divorce. But now, she was genuinely grateful for these final five days that Heaven had bestowed upon her.

Yet, she had still miscalculated slightly; perhaps the satisfaction of these last five days would cause her never to forget this man. She might, for a very long time, maybe even forever, be unable to feel love again, nor would she enter the halls of matrimony with another man.

She had fallen for Qin Zhiyou completely, a far cry from that immature first love with Qin Zhigu. It encompassed body and soul, life and work, in every aspect. The only difference now was that she no longer resented his “infidelity”, nor did she loathe his cold indifference and selfishness. All she wished for was his happiness.

Also, she was sorry she had not kept her promise. They had agreed to part at dawn, yet she fled like a deserter while he slept soundly. She was truly afraid that at the moment of parting, one embrace from Qin Zhiyou would make her heart melt again.

Lu Weixi got out of bed quietly; she had taken most of her luggage back to the Lu Family’s old house long ago, and the rest of her belongings were also packed. She washed up quietly, combed her hair, and before leaving, she returned to the bedroom, gently pulling the quilt over him. She had intended to give him a light kiss, but hesitated and instead walked away, then softly closed the door.
