Chapter 1237 - Chapter 1237 Chapter 1240 See You After Dawn (21)
Chapter 1237: Chapter 1240: See You After Dawn (21) Chapter 1237: Chapter 1240: See You After Dawn (21) The two of them returned to their room each with a heart full of lonely courage, Lu Weixi to the bedroom and Qin Zhiyou to the study, both working in their own spaces as if by tacit agreement. As night fell and hunger set in, they casually cooked some of the dumplings they had made that morning for dinner.
Both their work was somewhat thorny, and it wasn’t until late into the night that Lu Weixi finally finished and shut down her computer. She stretched lazily, took a sip of tea, and suddenly remembered something. She quickly got up and headed for the study.
The door to the study was not closed, and as soon as Lu Weixi pushed it open, she saw Qin Zhiyou still looking at his computer. But upon seeing her enter, he smiled and stood up, “Finished with work?”
Just by his tone, Lu Weixi knew, “You finished your work a while ago? Why didn’t you go back to rest?”
“It would disturb you,” he said simply, his words leaving her incredibly heart-sore.
She lowered her head, feeling as though countless emotions were washing over her, back and forth. She would be hurt when Qin Zhiyou was unkind to her, but his kindness also pained her.
She didn’t quite understand why, even with Qin Zhiyou being so good to her, he still had entanglements with other women. Can men truly handle several people at once with no real feelings, driven only by novelty?
But none of that mattered anymore; they had only one day left. The countdown had already begun, from now until the sun rose on Monday, less than thirty hours.
Qin Zhiyou didn’t understand why her mood had suddenly dropped, but he could faintly sense her sadness and spoke in a soft voice, “I’m sorry.”
“No, it should be me.” Now, at this point, Lu Weixi finally stopped caring about gains and losses, stopped worrying about who he was with, and just wanted to be with him.
Qin Zhiyou slowly stood up, while Lu Weixi still hung her head low, their shadows stretched long by the desk lamp.
Qin Zhiyou didn’t know what to say or how to comfort her, so he just turned to look at their reflections on the wall. Though they were still apart, under the lamp’s light, their shadows cuddled together, as if merged into one.
“Xixi, if the child had been born back then, would you have stayed for the child’s sake?”
Lu Weixi did not answer. After a long time, she asked, “If we had been married for five years, and you treated me like you do now, maybe I wouldn’t have the courage to leave.”
Not sure what exactly triggered them, perhaps it was the chime of the house clock marking the hour, sounding like a reminder that they didn’t have much time left. Qin Zhiyou embraced her passionately.
The following 24 hours were indeed like what they had imagined, a thorough world of just the two of them.
They simply turned off their phones, shut down their computers, and locked the door, not willing to deal with the tumultuous outside world, intent on hiding in their house and living their private little lives.
Lu Weixi even had the sensation that this day was more intimate than their honeymoon, more inseparable than when they first “fell in love”. She wished she could wrap herself around him like a vine, her whole being, her entire heart.
And Qin Zhiyou felt the same, except for eating and using the restroom, he wished to stick with her all the time.
As if looking away for a second meant he would never see her again.
But no matter how close they became, when the final chime rang out, it was like Cinderella’s pumpkin carriage, and they ultimately had to say goodbye.
