She said she might be quite busy recently, going out of town, and asked you to take care of yourself.”

Holding the cigarette between his fingers, Qin Zhiyou listened for a while and then said indifferently, “You can go back and rest now.”

After Aunt Hao left, he took another sip of his coffee. The black coffee, with the addition of milk, indeed had a smooth sweetness rather than just the full-bodied bitterness. He took a sip, then another, before finally stubbing out the cigarette in the ashtray.

He knew that Lu Weixi wasn’t clinging to old affections for him; it was just that they had been husband and wife, for better or worse. It was like the last glimmer of light before death, but the inevitable end was still obliteration.

The only difference was that on their wedding day, it had been bright and sunny without a cloud in sight. Today, however, the sky was somewhat overcast. The weather forecast had mentioned the likelihood of a downpour tonight.

“Here for marriage or divorce? For divorce, take a number over there, then pay the fee and fill out the form.”

The staff accepted the money, and Lu Weixi, feeling somewhat embarrassed, said, “Thank you.”
