Qin Zhizhi had not expected such a response from Grandpa Qin and his face turned an ashen hue. Clenching his teeth, he said gloomily, “Exactly, after all, it’s not the child of my eldest or second brother. I am of no great merit; naturally, nobody cares.”

Grandpa Qin looked back at him with a puzzled expression, “What does it have to do with whose child it is? You’re still aware of your inadequacies? I know you value your child, but don’t spoil him too much. Lest he ends up like you.”

Qin Zhizhi was so angered he almost turned to go upstairs, but thankfully Cai Yiren diverted his attention with a single sentence. Just then, breakfast was served, and everyone ate in silence. Near the end of the meal, the ginger tea was finally ready. The servant, unaware, directly served Qin Zhiyou a cup. Qin Zhiyou didn’t argue but gently pushed the tea cup towards Lu Weixi.

Lu Weixi had been keeping her head down, eating, but when she inadvertently saw the bowl of ginger tea, she froze. Realizing it was pushed by Qin Zhiyou, she was not just startled but felt a trace of joy. She glanced up at him, and Qin Zhiyou had an indifferent expression, as if he merely disliked the ginger tea getting in the way of his meal.

Even so, after taking a sip of the warm, sweet ginger tea, she felt a slight sense of warmth in her heart.

However, as she was leaving, Lu Weixi realized she had forgotten to finish reviewing materials from yesterday’s meeting and went back upstairs to her bedroom to fetch them. On her way down, she happened to bump into Cai Yiren going up. Lu Weixi stepped aside to make way for her. She couldn’t tell why, but as they passed by each other, Lu Weixi distinctly felt that Cai Yiren’s look held a trace of resentment and madness.

Then Cai Yiren went upstairs, and she went down, with neither speaking a word.

Lu Weixi was not afraid of Cai Yiren, and she also felt that there was something wrong with Yiren’s pregnancy. If Yiren wanted the child to be born normal, that was one thing, but if anything happened, it would be easy to blame it on her, and she wouldn’t be able to clear her name no matter how much she pleaded.

In the past, she could rely on Qin Zhiyou when she was at home, but now, Qin Zhiyou seemed distant in their marriage, and she feared he wouldn’t defend her. She needed to think of a plan.

At the office, she finished the meeting that was not completed yesterday morning. In the afternoon, she had to meet with the client from the morning meeting–the new city museum.

Her superior, aware that she was Qin Zhiyou’s wife, treated her quite cordially and even said with a smile, “The designer for the new museum will be there today too, an old acquaintance of yours.”
