Chapter 477: Chapter 477: Conscience Speaks, Truth Opens Up (Vote for us with your monthly ticket, third release)
Hatred’s Black Fire exploded at the center of the shopping mall, and the scattered flames, heavy with hatred, were drowned by the rain.
Where once ten fingers had stood, now a young man appeared. He slowly removed the mask from his face and looked towards Boss Gu, who had completely transformed into something monstrous.
"You waited for the right Sacrificial Offering, and I waited for a changed future."
Like a giant tree, Boss Gu, shaking his branches adorned with skulls, let out a grating laugh, "The future? The future you see is nothing but tragedies that have already occurred. There’s no future in your world."
"Is that so?" the young man raised the Slaughter Saber in his hand, a blade that seemed like the sole star in the night, a saber feared even by hatred itself, yet also uncharacteristically gentle.
In the moment the light appeared, the railing on the third floor of the mall was toppled, and a woman nearly three meters tall in a blood-red dress walked out.
Seeing the woman, Boss Gu’s expression turned dark, and he averted his gaze, not daring to meet her eyes.
"Why can’t you look? That’s your wife. She trusted you so much, she gave you everything, and yet, why did you push her into a well?"
"Enough!" The mutated giant tree, all heads on it, furiously turned towards Han Fei.
"It’s not you who should be angry." An old man stepped out from the shadow on the second floor, holding a child’s hand, followed by all his family members.
"He was your best friend, offering a helping hand in your time of need, helping you to rise again. Yet, when you fell on hard times, you sacrificed his entire family to the so-called Divine Spirits."
For every sentence Han Fei spoke, the wounds on Boss Gu’s body that could never heal multiplied, and he didn’t dare let Han Fei continue, beginning to command the monstrous creatures to advance.
"Kill him, kill this liar full of lies for me!"
The transformed monsters moved forward, but just then, a red sweater drifted down from above, followed by a flurry of ledgers and receipts fluttering down from the seventh floor like a flock of doves.
"This is a gift from your younger brother to you. He left behind evidence of your crimes, and I’ve made hundreds of copies for you."
The evidence descending from the sky outlined all of Boss Gu’s wrongdoings. Unfortunately, the mutated monsters didn’t care for these documents, merely trampling them underfoot.
"What’s the point of forging these things?" Boss Gu’s eyes were cold, he was no longer going to delay; he intended to kill the man before him immediately.
"You use these transformed monsters as tools, but you’ve forgotten they were all once living people. Maybe you’re used to treating people like commodities, so now you’re left only with easily controlled monsters, with no one truly willing to help you."
"They obey my commands, not because they’ve become monsters, but because they choose to trust me." From Boss Gu’s cracking wounds, more and more bloodied hands emerged, each one greedily seizing whatever was within reach. Any monster that came close was caught by him, sucked dry of marrow and devoured entirely.
Boss Gu was hurrying to heal his injuries, and Han Fei was also not going to continue dragging things out.
"Since they trust you so much, they should believe every word you say." Han Fei took a step back, and the sound of glass shattering came from above. Suspended between the second and third floors was a large advertising tarp.
The banner was bound with a person who looked like a lump of rotting mud, and he had the same face as Boss Gu.
"Boss, now let’s hear how your conscience judges yourself!"
Almost at the same time as the rotting mud monster appeared, Boss Gu realized a serious problem was imminent, but he was utterly unable to stop it.
Boss Gu’s already putrid conscience revealed his innermost secrets, telling that he was an incredibly selfish and insane man, whose greed and desire had consumed all humanity.
Most of the mutated monsters were followers of Boss Gu; they had received his small favors and only believed the words that came from Boss Gu’s mouth.
The monsters, who had been indifferent to the outside world, slowly gained a glimmer of reason in their eyes upon hearing the secrets spewed by the conscience, and their mutated brains began to think and doubt.
In fact, Han Fei had been planning to wait two more days before revealing the truth when the public sentiment had formed a certain consensus. However, Boss Gu was exceedingly cunning; knowing that the truth and his conscience were lost, he immediately started setting up the altar. That very night, he planned to kill the Master of Shrine’s mother, drive Han Fei mad, and make him the perfect Sacrificial Offering.
Boss Gu was incredibly difficult to deal with, so Han Fei had no choice but to accelerate his plan.
The self-confession of the conscience allowed the blindly following masses to start thinking independently, and as they gradually began to harbor doubts, Han Fei brought forth the final truth.
The hanged woman, with her charred hands, laid the truth in front of everyone.
The truth, without eyes, without a nose, and unable to hear the sounds of the outside world, became the focus of everyone’s gaze.
As its mouth opened, the truth spoke of all the deeds Boss Gu had done.
After knowing the truth, the mutated monsters did not choose to help the truth, but neither did they continue to attack Han Fei.
"The human heart has its dirty and ugly side, as well as its pure and kind side. Some of you donate money to Boss Gu’s charity foundation every month, thinking that by doing good deeds you can be at peace, not knowing that your kindness has gone to the dogs, and he has been using your goodwill to turn this city into Hell."
Conscience awakened, truth spoken, in the face of the overwhelming evidence, those mutated monsters finally stopped following Boss Gu’s commands.
Step by step, Boss Gu’s cloak of charity was stripped away by Han Fei, but he seemed to have anticipated this, and as soon as the truth appeared, he began to frantically devour, until no more monsters dared approach him.
The monsters swarming from every corner of the city lessened by half, and most of those left in the mall were strapped with collars woven from money. Whether human or dog, they were driven willingly.
"So what if you know the truth? This world isn’t just black and white, and not everyone is so concerned about right or wrong." Boss Gu grabbed those collared monsters and loyal dogs, stuffing them into his mouth or tearing them apart to stick onto his wounds.
Boss Gu’s body continued to swell, and it seemed Han Fei had no more cards to play.
"Of course, I know the world isn’t just black and white, but I think what’s right is right, and what’s wrong is wrong. Only by correcting the bad can the good be recognized and appreciated by more people."
Clenching the handle of the knife tightly, Han Fei stood before the flesh tree as tall as a three-story building, not stepping back an inch, because he knew the knife in his hand was the only light in this dark night.
