Chapter 443: The Turning Point of Destiny

Chapter 443: Chapter 443: The Turning Point of Destiny

The system’s notification sound left Han Fei lost in thought for a long time, as he had never seen a buff that could directly enhance a player’s attributes before.

It wasn’t that he was inexperienced, it’s just that he used to treat curses as blessings, and now that he had truly received a blessing, he couldn’t help but be somewhat surprised.

"The speed at which my mood values decrease has slowed down again, that’s easy enough to understand, but what does it mean for the world’s degradation speed to slow down? Is this world getting more dangerous and worse with each passing day?"

There seemed to be no change in the world through Han Fei’s eyes, but this system notification made him more cautious.

The woman on the hospital bed was too weak, her arms couldn’t stay lifted for long, and after gently caressing Han Fei’s cheek, she reluctantly lowered her hand.

"I’ve dragged you down, as a mother, the most I can give you is just one blessing."

"This is already the best gift I’ve ever received in my life," Han Fei always felt as if the woman remembered something, he gently covered her with the blanket, "Everything will get better; those regrets won’t happen again."

Without staying any longer, Han Fei had more important matters to attend to, he had to figure out what this world degradation meant and be prepared in advance.

As he stood up to leave, Han Fei took one last look inside through the glass window of the hospital room door.

Remembering the woman’s smile, he faintly understood something.

"For the Master of Shrine, the last bit of attachment to this entire world must be his mother; that’s why her blessing has such a significant boost for me."

From this moment on, Han Fei could be considered to have completely received a certain recognition.

"How are you considering it?" The man surnamed Gu and his four security guards were also standing at the door of the hospital room, the man holding a card in his hand, seemingly ready to pay off Han Fei’s medical bills as soon as Han Fei agreed.

"Thank you for your kindness, but I just can’t afford this favor right now." His slender shoulders bore too much pressure, Han Fei "collapsed," he held it in so as not to worry his mother, even forcing himself to step out of the hospital room before he dared to reveal his "fragility."

Turning on the switch for Master-level Acting in his brain, Han Fei perfectly replicated the image of a confused and desperate young man.

He rejected the man surnamed Gu’s help, one-fifth of the Master of Shrine’s regret had already been mended, the Memory World was affected, and the man surnamed Gu might do even crazier things.

In order not to let the man surnamed Gu notice anything unusual, to deceive him, Han Fei had to replicate the Master of Shrine to the greatest extent.

From every minute expression to the pain in the bottom of his eyes, the department store boss took in all of Han Fei’s despair, but he was completely unaware that maybe, one day, he might experience the same despair.

The man surnamed Gu wasn’t angry at all despite being rejected by Han Fei multiple times; his expression did not change from beginning to end: "My offer always stands, if you need help you can come to me at any time."

After saying that, the man surnamed Gu prepared to leave.

After taking a few steps, it seemed he suddenly thought of something and turned to Han Fei, "I heard from Zhu Wei that your family had originally gathered some money, but then your dad stole all the donations, right?"

Having the misfortune mentioned over and over again made Han Fei feel as if he had been stripped naked and stood in front of everyone.

"Yes."

"You might want to check out the Shahe West District, downstream of Shahe. An employee there seems to have seen him," the department store boss said, coughing several times, as the ulcerated skin on his face started to ooze blood.

Seeing him like that, the bodyguard next to him immediately came over and shielded him in the middle.

"I can only help you so much; it’s quite chaotic over there. You’d better bring a friend with you when you have time off."

The department store boss left with his bodyguard, and as he stepped out of the hospital, the early sun just started shining into the Master of Shrine’s mother’s hospital room.

Han Fei watched the back of the department store boss as he left, and a doubt surfaced in his mind—would the department store boss really kindly tell him his father’s whereabouts?

Han Fei was now very vigilant towards the department store boss. He suspected that everything the Master of Shrine had experienced was the doing of the department store boss, or in other words, the Master of Shrine was a man-made tragedy.

He was not a toy in the hands of fate, but in the hands of the department store boss, the sickly man surnamed Gu.

"After I refused Boss, he still kindly told me where my father is? What kind of scheme could be hidden here?"

If Boss really had kind intentions, he should have told the Master of Shrine where his father was a long time ago, instead of pretending to play out a scene.

"I seem to have overlooked some things."

Leaning against the hospital room door, Han Fei thought carefully. The old lady’s son had also worked at the secondhand store, but the outcome was that her son was devoured by the Shrine, while the store boss was still living well.

The Master of Shrine was gradually falling into Boss’s trap, but this time, the Master of Shrine completely took over the Shrine and became the most malevolent Unspeakable.

Any Unspeakable existence within Deep World is extremely cunning and terrifying; they excel in manipulating all kinds of negative emotions. Pain and despair are merely fuel for igniting the Hatred Black Fire.

How could such an Unspeakable existence possibly remain forever simple and kind?

Han Fei looked down at his hands, his palms full of small scars, bearing the invisible traces of blood.

If he hadn’t made a change, by now the Master of Shrine would have had a life on his hands.

"There must have been some significant changes in the Master of Shrine later on; he went from being initially kind to another extreme, directly retaliating against the department store boss. That must also be his regret, but I don’t know where this turning point that affected his destiny is."

Han Fei was extremely cautious, avoiding numerous dangers, and had only just managed to help the Master of Shrine repair one-fifth of his regrets.

The thing that the Master of Shrine truly regretted for a lifetime probably hadn’t happened yet, or was about to happen.

"Hatred is the essential path to becoming Unspeakable. Whom will the Master of Shrine’s hatred come from? The loan sharks? Security guards? Unjust fate? Or that father who stole the lifesaving money from the family?"

Han Fei slowly closed his eyes, recalling some of the things he had seen after entering the Memory World.

During a toy task, he came into contact with a murderer who brutally killed his wife and children and indirectly caused his death.

Then there was a Nurse who was one of the Ten Fingers members in disguise, who kept his wife confined at home for years; Han Fei still didn’t know whether she was dead or alive.

Finally, there was Huang Li; Han Fei had sneaked a peek at her mobile phone chat history, and her husband, who continuously subjected her to domestic abuse, still threatened to kill her entire family after they divorced.

At first, Han Fei hadn’t connected all of these together, but now, upon reflection, this world was the Memory World of the Master of Shrine; Memory World is a place where subjective memory consciousness exists.

Whether a murderer or Huang Li’s husband, their existence seemed to be influenced by some painful memories of the Master of Shrine.

This was the Memory World of the Master of Shrine, where one could see everyone’s story but could never find the inner heart that the Master himself had sealed away.

However, from another perspective, wasn’t this mutating world a reflection of the inner heart of the Master of Shrine?

All encounters, all experiences, were actually the answers.

From the very first trivial matter, Han Fei had already been walking on the path of the Master of Shrine’s heart.

"The department store Boss wanted to lure me into doing certain things, perhaps this shouldn’t have been brought up now, but he didn’t expect me to refuse his kindness," Han Fei was certain, the department store Boss’s plans had been disrupted.

"It seems I need to make a trip to Shahe West District as soon as possible," Han Fei felt that he had to meet the Master of Shrine’s father no matter what, sensing that the turning point in the Master’s fate might just lie with his father.

"What kind of experience can make a person who firmly believes in light thoroughly give up hope and wholeheartedly embrace darkness?"

Hurriedly leaving the hospital, Han Fei and two gangsters arrived at the bus station, scaring off passersby so that no one dared to come near their group.

"The department store isn’t far from here, we can just walk back, or are you planning to go straight home?" Li Long now had a whole new understanding of Han Fei, knowing he was not easy to deal with; his attitude softened quite a bit, but the debt still needed to be pressed, otherwise he wouldn’t be able to explain himself to others.

"Boss Gu mentioned earlier that my father had been seen in West City District, and said that place was quite chaotic, do you guys know about it?" Han Fei looked towards Li Long and Li Hu.

"You’ve been up working all night, aren’t you going back to sleep?" Li Hu frowned, Han Fei’s life schedule was dragging down those trying to collect debts.

"Let’s go take a look first, if I can find my father, I will be able to pay you back immediately!" Han Fei was very confident.

Hearing that they could get their money back, Li Long spoke up, "West City District is the most backward and impoverished area. A few years ago, an old town transformation began there, attracting a large number of homeless and temporary workers, which also bred a lot of ’pests’."

"Pests? Like you guys?"

"That’s not quite right, we still have principles," Li Hu muttered under his breath, "Although our old hangout used to be there."

"Take me there. After we find the person, I’ll pay back the debt with interest."

Under Han Fei’s insistence, Li Long and Li Hu decided to take him to see West City District.

"Other people hide from us when they owe money, but you, you actually want to go to the place where we have the most people. If I didn’t know you were really short of money, I’d suspect you were a cop," Li Hu and Li Long, with their tattoos showing, sat on either side of Han Fei, taking the first bus headed for West City District.

As time passed, more people boarded the bus, yet the last row where Han Fei and his companions sat remained empty.

Halfway through the ride, Han Fei saw an old man with difficulty walking get on the bus; he got up to offer his seat, but in the end, the old man forcefully pressed him back into his own seat.

After thirty minutes, Han Fei and his company finally reached their destination.

Off the bus, Han Fei immediately saw dust whirling in the air on the road. The place was full of under-construction buildings; he could see construction sites and buildings plastered with demolition signs everywhere.

"If we see my colleagues later on, I hope you can give us some face," Li Long made a very practical request; if people knew that Han Fei had come of his own accord, the brothers might as well quit the underworld.

"No problem, I’ll fully cooperate with you and give you enough face, and I hope you can mobilize your people to help me find my dad," Han Fei pulled out his phone and started searching his photo album.

Han Fei initially wanted to find a photo of the Master of Shrine’s father to facilitate Li Long’s search, but as he searched, he made an unexpected discovery.

In the phone album, there were photos of his mother and his father, but noticeably missing were any photos of the Master of Shrine himself, all group photos had also vanished, and in the videos, there was no sign of the Master himself, not even his voice.

"This is something to take note of."

Han Fei first sent a photo of the Master of Shrine’s father to Li Long and Li Hu, and after they confirmed receipt, Han Fei began to keep a low profile, not wanting to startle anyone.

"Although there are many homeless in West City District, we still take notice of new faces," Li Long led the way, taking Han Fei through a construction site and into the alleyways behind it.

They hadn’t walked far when they heard screams and pleas for mercy; Li Long asked Han Fei to pause, "There’s an unlucky guy who’s been caught ahead; we better not go there for now."

About half a minute later, the screams stopped, and several men wielding steel pipes walked out from around the corner of the alley.

The leader, as tall as Li Long but much bulkier, had a steel pipe wrapped around his hand, still stained with a lot of blood at the front.

As the group approached, Li Long consciously stepped aside, and although Li Hu was somewhat discontent, he had to bear it for now.

"Don’t provoke them?"

Without needing Li Long’s reminder, Han Fei wouldn’t act carelessly; he stood at the corner, leaning against the wall, thinking about finding the Master of Shrine’s father as quickly as possible.

The two groups wouldn’t have clashed, but as they passed by Han Fei, the leading man suddenly stopped.

He looked at Han Fei curiously, "New here?"

Han Fei appeared confused, very panicked and afraid, looking towards Li Long for help.

Knowing they couldn’t avoid interaction, Li Long spoke up, "He owes Brother Snake money, we brought him here to pay it back."

"Don’t be nervous, I won’t steal your goods," the leading man raised his arm, the bloodied steel pipe pointing at Li Long, "That scar on your face is really ugly; I can help you make it symmetrical if you like."

After the man finished speaking, the youths following him all laughed.

Li Hu wanted to speak, but was stopped by Li Long.

"Such trash, no wonder you got beaten like this." Seeing Li Long didn’t dare to retaliate, they found it boring and left slowly.

The leading man laughed without inhibition, unaware that as he turned around, the look in Han Fei’s eyes changed instantly.

"A human head tattoo!" Han Fei fixated on the back of the leader’s neck, where two lifelike faces were inked, "Is he also one of the Ten Fingers?"

Seeing the human head tattoo, murderous intent surged within Han Fei.

With just a fleeting encounter, he had already decided where to bury the man.
