Chapter 270 Pet Store
Chapter 270: Chapter 270 Pet Store
"Have we met before?"
Huang Ying’s mind was blank. He had grown increasingly impressed with Han Fei, who seemed to thrive in this place filled with monsters and grudges, not at all like an ordinary person.
"Forget it, I’ll introduce you guys when there’s a chance. Let’s head back to Building One," Han Fei gestured and then dragged the limping Huang Ying back to Building One.
Using the key left by the Building Chief, he unlocked the door to room 1041, "Brother Huang Ying, this will be your room from now on. You can store all your mission items here."
"My room?" Huang Ying was also shocked by Han Fei’s grand gesture of directly offering an apartment.
"If you are not comfortable in this house, I can change it for you at any time."
"This is quite good," Huang Ying entered the room and opened his item bar, which had been expanded to its limit, "I’ve procured some useful skills for you from the black market in the Shallow World of ’Perfect Life.’ You should find them useful."
Saying this, he handed over several skill books and summaries to Han Fei.
"’Advanced Free Solo Climbing,’ ’Diving Skills and Methods,’ ’Introduction to Explosives,’ ’Wilderness Survival - Conquer Extreme Environments,’ ’Basic Radio Communication,’ ’Battlefield Infiltration and Tri-service Combat’..."
Looking at the skill books one by one, Han Fei felt that Huang Ying seemed to have learned from the previous experience, no longer preparing books related to theology and the supernatural. This time, it seemed he was preparing Han Fei to become a tri-service special forces soldier.
The skill books seemed useful, yet somehow not; now it was Han Fei’s turn to be conflicted.
In the game ’Perfect Life,’ all skills must be self-taught initially, only after understanding the basics could one use skill points to upgrade.
After making his selection, Han Fei ultimately chose skills like first aid, climbing, diving, and basic tool making.
After reading the books, he needed to attempt extensively to comprehend the skills and achieve skill initiation.
However, compared to regular gamers, Han Fei had a significant advantage. The Deep World had numerous missions that no one contested, and the rewards were unusually generous, so in the later stage, he would not lack skill points.
In the future, he might become an actor proficient in various professions.
While Han Fei studied the skills, Huang Ying, like a diligent ant, continually took various mission items out of his item bar.
He was a very meticulous person who had already categorized all the mission items in advance.
After the beta test of ’Perfect Life,’ he could quickly level up by using these mission items, skipping the intermediate steps of the tasks, making even the most professional gaming studios unable to compete with him.
Seeing Huang Ying still busy inside the room, Han Fei did not disturb him; he gathered the residents of Building One and Two who were willing to leave, preparing to head out again tonight.
In Beast Alley, the doctor had gathered many outsiders, who mostly resided in neighboring buildings. These people had all been injured and now was the best time to finish them off.
Han Fei felt a constant urgency; seven days later, he might already be inside the Death Building. In the meantime, he had to help Xu Qin recover from her injuries and find as many Curse Items as possible.
Once the people were gathered, Han Fei took out the Beast Path Mask from his item bar, holding the Rebirth Saber, and went up to the fourth floor.
"Brother Huang Ying, have you moved everything out? It’s time to send you on your way,"
Hearing Han Fei’s voice, Huang Ying shuddered. He knew Han Fei meant no harm, but he couldn’t help but feel afraid.
His gaze skipped over Han Fei’s figure, and Huang Ying saw his neighbors standing behind Han Fei, his face twitching slightly. He truly couldn’t imagine that in reality, Han Fei was a popular star.
"Is this what an actor truly is?"
The fake idol stars all wore shiny outfits, walked on the red carpet, surrounded by fans holding glow sticks and support signs, then everyone would cheer like a tsunami, shouting the brother’s name.
The real actors wore masks, holding the handles of their knives, standing amidst the bloodstains, surrounded by all sorts of demons and ghosts, all looking horrific, their faces pale, desperately suppressing the madness and bloodlust in their eyes.
With a forced smile on his face, Huang Ying’s legs started shaking. No matter how many times he experienced this scene, he could never get used to it. He now didn’t know if he was the abnormal one, or if Han Fei was.
"Take advantage of this time before the public test and bring more useful things down. Afterward, you won’t have this chance again," Han Fei said, then closed the door and used the Soul-returning Talent Ability on Huang Ying.
When the Attribute Panel returned to normal, Huang Ying was no longer in the room.
A somewhat weakened Han Fei took a deep breath, then put on the Beast-faced Mask and walked out of the room.
"Let’s go."
The group descended to the ground floor, and as they were leaving the Happiness Residental Community, Han Fei had Cry release the veterinarian from the Spiritual Altar.
This veterinarian had been beguiled by the doctor’s personality in Beast Alley and had attacked Xu Qin. He specialized in controlling some sewn-together animals, representing a rather special type of grudge.
Upon seeing daylight again, the veterinarian hadn’t even spoken before the surrounding grudges made him lose any will to resist.
"Where’s your home?" Han Fei’s cold voice emanated from beneath the Beast-faced Mask, sounding quite chilling.
"I own a pet shop, but if I go back now, I will be killed," the veterinarian retained some of his sanity and answered Han Fei’s question honestly.
"Going to be killed?"
"Yes, I did open that shop, but now the owner is a monster constructed from pet corpses; it has escaped my control and even likes... to treat people as pets," the veterinarian said, recalling something terrifying: "I barely escaped from that shop."
When Han Fei had previously gone to Beast Alley, he had passed by that pet shop. At the time, Yinglong and Cry had both issued a warning, not allowing Han Fei to get close.
"Did you create the pet shop’s new owner?"
"Yes."
"Does it have any weaknesses?"
"That creature..." the veterinarian thought for a long time before speaking: "When I was stitching its heart together, I deliberately held back. Its outer skin is very tough, but its heart is fragile. If the heart is destroyed, its strength will be greatly reduced. However, it has a very strong will to live; it’s extremely difficult to kill it completely."
The veterinarian described the monster as very frightening, which successfully piqued Han Fei’s interest.
After making his plans, Han Fei asked all the neighbors to enter Cry’s Spiritual Altar, then he alone carried the Spiritual Altar and walked towards the street outside.
"We all do business on the same street, seeing each other often. This time, I might even make some new friends."
Embracing the Spiritual Altar, Han Fei walked on the cold, dark streets. Somehow, he had begun to share the same aura as the city, as if he were born here.
After dealing with several unsolicited ’people’ asking for directions, Han Fei walked a great distance and arrived at the front of the pet shop.
The glass door opened outward, adorned with various cute pictures of pets.
"Is anyone there?"
Carrying the Spiritual Altar, Han Fei entered the shop.
The interior space of the pet shop was much larger than it appeared from outside; several rooms had been merged together with doors ajar, their locks apparently dismantled.
The floor was covered with copious amounts of animal fur, and the corners were piled with various cages, all of which were empty.
The feeling of stepping on animal fur felt strange.
Han Fei continued inward, gently pushing open the door leading to the inner room.
Weak barking sounds reached his ears, but when Han Fei followed the noise, the pupils under his mask shrank instantly.
Inside the cages of the pet shop were not animals, but a nearly dissipating residual soul.
Lifting the black cloths covering the cages, the sounds of barking and meowing continuously entered his ears, but what Han Fei saw were no cats or dogs, just residual souls and obsessions.
They were confined in cages, their minds no longer clear, seemingly truly regarding themselves as caged pets.
